This is the best flashlight I've ever owned. I used to think the Mag lights were the industry standard and perhaps they once were with the adjustable focal point, but this technology has passed and I always wondered why the distribution of light left large dark spots. Couldn't someone design a flashlight without this? Of course the answer is yes and this flashlight has the following features.
1. perfect focus of light without any dark spots with one hand adjustment (pull the top of the flashlight up and down to adjust)
2. High intensity LED light with an incredible range
3. Battery life is extraordinary.
4. Very solid construction
Downsides
1. The laynard holder is too close to the switch and sometimes gets in the way. This is more of an annoyance though.
2. Expense the upside is I don't think I will need another flashlight in a long time. Our family has tried to go "green" and make the switch to quality that will last as opposed to 10 plastic flashlights that probably would have a much lower lifetime use.
Hope this review helps.
I would recommend this flashlight

I live in Central America and study nocturnal amphibians. I have been at this for 12 years, and my quest during that time has been to find the best affordable flashlight available (looking at specifically the brightness vrs. duration). In recent years with the L.E.D. technological advances it has been an ongoing effort. The Coast brand "P7" is a very comfortable light (weight and size) with an impressive brightness. It has a very user-friendly flood vrs. spot control by simply sliding forward and aft the anterior section of the flashlight. I recently acquired the "P7" flashlight and have field-tested it on two occasions, measuring battery life (4 Duracell brand AAA batteries) and I got an average of 3.5 hours at full-brightness. The intensity dropped quite fast after a period of approximately 3.5 hours. I am very happy with this flashlight considering the size and weight vrs. the battery life. In my experience I do prefer the Rayovac 4 watt Sportsman Extreme, which I have used extensively as my principal field light over the past two years. The Rayovac 4 watt Sportsman Extreme (using 3 C Duracell batteries) averages about 10 hours of dependable brightness. The Coast brand "P7" is a very good light, and to those of us that have a nocturnal work schedule it is one that I highly recommend as a back-up to include in your back-pack.Best Deals for LED Lenser HP8407 Focusing LED Flashlight P7
I have used this light for over 6 months now and I am quite impressed. As a law enforcement officer, I am always looking for the gear that will serve me well and keep me safe. This light is bright (167 lums) and will blind people (suspects) temporarily, thus giving you a tactical edge. It can be used as a hand-held spot light from your patrol rig, and will shine light on objects about 700 feet away. I like that it runs on easy to acquire AAA batteries (4). Buy this light over the over-priced (brand names) other lights on the LE market!Honest reviews on LED Lenser HP8407 Focusing LED Flashlight P7
I absolutely LOVE this light. I was looking for an LED light to take with me backpacking and this is the one. I really wanted to get an LED light that ran on AAA batteries because that is what my headlamp also runs on. The styling of the light is great, it is very sturdy, so easy to use and the brightness is out of this world. I have always liked Maglites but haven't been fond of turning the head of the light to focus or spread the beam, this light makes focusing/spreading the light a piece of cake. If you're curious about the operation of the light, check youtube there are a couple of good reviews that go over the operation and taking the light completely apart. I sent an email to Coast to make sure the light can use lithiums (and it can, but is not rechargeable battery friendly) and also that it is waterproof (which it is, up to 1m, but not suitable for diving). Another great feature of this light is the case, which is made with great quality. It has a belt loop that unbuttons so you don't have to slip in onto an unbuckled belt you can slide it onto any part of your belt without unbuckling. Overall I have been very happy with this little light (although a tad heavy). The only thing that might have steered me away is the price, if it was a little cheaper around $45 or $50 it would get five stars.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for LED Lenser HP8407 Focusing LED Flashlight P7
I purchased this light from Amazon and I must say that I am underwhelmed by this flashlight. Maybe this is because I believed the hype that the P7 would produce a uniform beam with no dark spots as mentioned in the manufacturer's video, it does not. In fact, the light can not produce a uniform circle on a wall (it creates a jagged shape) and there are dark spots within and outside the circle as well as multiple uneven rings around the circle. There are cheaper lights which produce a more even and solid light beam. Also, this flashlight is not regulated meaning that the brightness of the light will decline as the battery drains. In other words, you will not get 200 lumens out of this light if you have it on high for long. I saw a noticeable decrease after just 15 minutes of it on high. Other flashlights with regulators will maintain the stated brightness until the battery is completely exhausted. For the price I would expect that it would include a $3 regulator in its internals like many of its competitors have. I thought it did, but after my experience and confirming this on Google, this light is not regulated.
