The only good thing about this item is that it is beautiful, but the light is sooooo poor. I doesn't illuminate anything around it, it has only one led and a very small solar panel. I wonder why the manufacturer sets up only one sad LED in such a big lamp, why not two or three? The only thing this lamp can make for you is decorate you house, nothing else, forget about light if that't what you are looking for. I know some other lights that have only one led and perform 1000 times better.

I really like the quality of the hanging door lanterns. They look great on both sides of the door of my storage house but they do not light up as much as I wished. I cut an old mirror in pieces and put it in the bottom of the lanterns and the LED light reflecting on the mirror made it a little brighter.

I'd have to disagree with Larry Wittners review about the brightness of this lantern.

The other reviewers are correct, there is very little useful light produced from this lantern and there are smaller led units that give off a lot more useful light at ½ the cost. While not hard to put together, the panels are made of frosted glass and could break and/or cut you if not careful. While the lantern can be seen from a good distance at night with a bluish glow, there is almost no usable light up close. Due to the small amount of light produced by this lantern I would not recommend this be used to help get around at night. This lantern is best suited for display purposes and will add a nice antique look to the area.

Pros:

Antique look, one of the best looking solar lanterns on the market today

Duration of light/glow can last most of the night under the right conditions.

Can be seen from a good distance, like a bluish beacon.

Above average quality of materials

Cons:

Almost no useful light, not recommended as a source of light to get around safely

Frosted glass, while stylish appears to diminish amount light given off by lantern

Cost If buying as a solar light source, there are less stylish units available that give off much more light at about ½ the cost.

A very nice product. They (I bought two of them) look great and were packaged well (even though the boxes were very beat up, the glass dome was intact inside its styrofoam packaging.

The product is very solid and built well. The threaded bolts holding the dome assembling did not "quite" match, but with a bit of wiggling I convinced the pieces that they belonged together.

With CFL bulbs (I'm experimenting with both the 60W and 100W equivalents) the fixtures are quite cool (I'm not a big fan of enclosed fixtures as the heat consumes bulbs too quickly). The fixture is designed to throw a lot of light: diffused light through the globe as well as indirect light onto the ceiling. The globe color is a light bronze. It is nice, but I think I would have preferred white.

I put these up by myself, and that was the only challenging part. I had to make a rig out of carabiners and bungy cords to hold it while I completed the wiring. It took me about 90 minutes to unpackage and put two of them up.

One reviewer complained that the bulbs are hard to change, but I did not find this to be the case; just get a ladder and reach over the top. Quite easy.

All in all, a good buy.

This is basically a quality item, strong, easy to assemble, and it comes well packed. I have only one negative critique (which may be a postive for some) and that is that the globe should be white, not brownish cream.

I have this fixture in a hall at the top of a staircase and the globe casts a very warm brownish glow. In my case I would have preferred a warm white which is the color I selected for my bulbs. The globe diminishes the downward lighting with the afore mentioned brownish glow. Now some may like this as it is pleasant, however, I would have preferred more "clean" light. The saving grace is that as this is a semi-flush mount the bulbs do reflect off the (white) ceiling.

The design is quite stylish, and I am satisfied in every respect other than the issue of the globe color. I purchased two 23 watt CFL bulbs which cost me $3.00 each and as the fixture is not covered they should remain cool and have a long life span. They give the same light as standard 100 watt bulbs, but use 77% less electricity and should last for many years.

Here is an update, I found another glass shade in creme white that fits this unit, now it is absolutely perfect. I am amazed by the positive comments I am getting on a light fixture. It is one of those unique things that seems to combine a traditional color (oil bronze) that is very popular today with a modern look.

I have recently realized that I can change a light fixture myself, and have started converting fixtures in my home to things I like better than the plain fixtures that were here when I bought the house. This is my second time choosing a fixture; the first was a Murray Feiss. I find the quality of this one low in comparison... though of course part of the reason I picked this one instead was that it was less expensive. Lesson learned.

This light has both manufacturing and design flaws, to my mind. I will start with the cons in this case.

Cons:

1. (defect) The glass shade had a pinhole glazing error. (I noticed this when I unpacked it from the box, but don't much notice it installed. The fact is that a light like this quickly collects little bugs on the glass anyway, so it's seldom going to be pristine.)

2. (defect) The bottom ring is constructed as two concentric circles. I didn't notice this till I had installed the light, but the two circles don't fully meet on mine, so there is a sliver of white light that shines through.

3. (defect) The coating on the metal parts is inconsistent, leaving some spots (e.g. the tips of some of the vertical pieces) a coppery color, as opposed to the dark bronze color. Some of this is perhaps intentional; if the metal were well constructed, it would be highlighting the edges. However, there are small globs of metal in some places and these just get highlighted.

4. (design flaw) The metal parts of the light have a smooth surface. As a result, the upper ring reflects a shiny white light from the light bulbs beneath it, compromising the aesthetics of the fixture. (You can see just a hint of this in the Amazon picture, where there's a white line.) This is more of an issue in my home than it might be in yours; my ceilings are relatively low. If your ceilings are higher, you'll experience a different angle to the fixture.

5. Instructions were poor. There was one sheet explaining in pictures how the pieces of the lamp (glass & metal) go together, and another that was generic for the installation on the ceiling (not explaining the specific parts you have, but how to install an Artcraft light in general.)

6. I can find nowhere on the box or in the printed materials that accompanied the light any statements about the rating of the light (the bulb wattage) nor anything about a warranty, contact information for the manufacturer, etc.

Pros:

1. Contrary to what another reviewer said, I am quite pleased with the light this throws off. I have two 75-watt bulbs in there, and find it pleasantly bright. (I have a dimmer switch on that fixture as well, and especially since this is in my living room, it will often be dimmed, actually.) The fixture itself says it can take up to 100W bulbs.

2. I am glad to know from other reviewers that CFLs will work as well, and plan to use those in the future.

3. It's still an attractive fixture, even though it is flawed. Including that the scale seems right to me, for my small home.

I would not buy this again, and do not recommend it to you. But it's okay. (I know I could send it back to Amazon, but I find that a pain for larger things, and it didn't cross the threshold. I don't really notice it with the light installed.)

I will probably try sandpaper or something to address the glare issue that bugs me, and some sort of filler for the sliver of light that cuts through the bottom. It's all okay. Just okay.

As points of comparison, the previous fixture I got was this:

I was shocked once this unit went up. Against a clear white ceiling in a small bedroom with only an 8' ceiling, the 120 watts (2 bulbs recommended @60W), the amount of light generated is like a movie theater as the lights are going down. I had a dimmer installed with this light which turned out to be a joke. At full voltage it seems as if the dimmer is on maximum.\

Very, very disappointed but it's too late now.

I probably do not have to tell you that waking up at 3am to your young children screaming in a pitch black house following a power-outage is not fun. So began the research to find battery-powered night lights and voila! after plugging some in around strategic areas of the home (including the little ones' bedrooms), I can say they worked perfectly during the next outage. I was still woken up by my 6 yr old, standing next to my bed and asking when the power would come back on, but at least he was not crying. In fact, he was calm, and he could see where he was going between his bedroom and mine without the need of a flashlight. The batteries are only used when the power fails and reportedly last about eight hours plenty of time until daybreak to seek more batteries if needed for successive nights.

This inexpensive and stylish product does a decent job in providing low-level illumination during a power outage. I like that these lights run on inexpensive, replaceable AAA batteries during a power outage. They also don't interfere with the bottom outlet on the wall. The only thing I don't really like is the fact that they are always on. I would have liked an ambient light sensor that turns off the light during the daytime. However, I also realize such a feature would increase the cost of the unit. In some cases these lights may not provide enough illumination (e.g. a wide-open space in a basement).

I paired this product with some Greenlite NL/WH/3/1/CD/1 LED 3-in-1 Night Light, Emergency Light, & Flashlight units to create an emergency lighting system throughout my home. The Greenlites generate more light and are better for illuminating long hallways or spaces. They have more features (throw a switch and you have a beam flashlight) but they cost more and use rechargeable batteries that aren't as easy to replace (if it's even possible at all). In some cases the Greenlites can be too bright (e.g. at the top of my stairs) so I used a Carlon light there.

I bought 6 of them at a big box store and the installation was quick and simple! This new model replaces the HALO (Cooper Lighting) model ALED3T24. The only major difference that I was able to notice was that the housing & ring are made from a die-cast hard polymer, rather than a painted cast "pot metal", like the earlier model ALED3T24.

They are "AIR-TITE" since a gasket is supplied to fit between the outside ring and the ceiling.

There is NO warm up time what so ever! The light is a bright white and cool in temperature.

I also had to replace the dimmer that is specifically made for CFLs' & LEDs'.

I bought these lights on the basis of some good reviews. I remodeled my living room recently and installed Cree LED recessed lights. I have been very pleased with them. These Halo LEDs appear to have similar specs to the Cree, but they sure don't seem like it. The Halo lights are not as bright, and they seem whiter and cooler. The Cree had a better spectrum of light, in my view. The Halos will do the job I guess, but it will take some getting used to. They make everything seem cooler and not as bright as I hoped.

These are a very good match to the Sylvania lights (LED recessed). I started doing the whole house with Sylvania. I have approximately 75 can lights. I did not realize until 1/2 way into the job that I had some shallow cans. The Sylvanias will not work. I found these and matched the light tone perfect with the Sylvania (3000K). the install easy...and look very nice.

I needed to replace some Xenon under cabinet lighting that I was using on my desk. I wanted 4 LED pucks, plug in not battery operated, warm light around the 3000K range, with output equivalent to 40 watt bulbs.

I did not get all of that. One astounding thing I learned in researching this is that MOST SELLERS DO NOT PUBLISH THE KELVIN OR WATTAGE of their lights. How ridiculous is that? It's like selling clothes without saying what size they are.

I realized I was going to have to be prepared to make some compromises.

What I did get was a 4 light LED strip that can be EITHER battery operated or plug in, with fairly dim lights but they'll do for now, They are also a VERY cool blue, typical LED. I don't like that but I'm not going to send it back.

Pluses -

It comes with a remote control, useless for me since the lights are mounted within arms reach but I can see how you could use this strip as decorative up lighting or on a shelf and I can see how the remote would, then, be helpful.

The lights are able to operate either off of batteries or plugged in.

The lights can be daisy-chained (the connector is included) AND you can then use one remote to operate the string (or so the box says).

The lights have a dimmer feature that works from both the switch on the strip as well as the remote.

The directionality of these lights is superb.

Installation can be done either with screws (template included) or by hook-loop sticky stuff.

These are LED's and therefore won't get hot.

Negative: wish they were brighter (nothing on the package indicates the wattage I'm guessing around a 15 watt incandescent equivalent but not diffuse) and much lower Kelvins (incandescent are around 2700, I'm happy around 3000, these are somewhere, imo, around 5000).

The lights I replaced created beautiful ambient lighting that was also functional. These are functional only and are dim enough that they are only barely functional. I think part of that, though, is my dislike of the cool color of the light. We'll see.

If you don't need really bright light and don't mind the cool color these are ideal with some really nifty features.

This set of lights work great for my needs. I have it mounted to the ceiling to light up my dartboard. With it being mounted to the ceiling the remote comes in handy as I'm not tall and can't really reach the power button. My only problem is the power cord is about 3 feet too short for my use which shouldn't be a problem for most people so I have to use an extension cord. Other than that this light works great and provides more light than half the bars I play at.

I am sorely disappointed in my Luxo KFM purchase. I had a Luxo "back in the day" (around 1990) and the thing was built like a tank. This new one is on my workbench screaming "Cheap Chinese Crap! I'm Cheap Chinese Crap!"

Credit where it is due, the lamp turns on, and the magnifier doesn't have any optical defects I can see with the naked eye. However, the joints in the arm are loose and nearly impossible to snug up sufficiently to keep them still. The clamp-on base has a cheap screw that runs rough, and the tightening arm is too short. I suspect that's to keep someone from wringing the screw off. Additionally, the socket for the lamp to sit in is far too big, so the lamp literally wobbles in the socket. To top it off, the internal spring that holds the arm in place was broken off inside somewhere, so the whole thing flops around. My only guess is that the QC Dept. was on break when this one came off the line.

Not worth what you're going to pay for it, even if the spring isn't broken. I'd try a different brand, though I don't know which one. This thing is getting returned.

I enjoy this reading lap so much, I had to buy another after my two year old cousin and her friend destroyed my old one. It is extremely easy to travel with, it is very bright, and the batteries last forever! It's durability is on a lower end, but it makes up for it in it's amazingness! This is the best USB light I have owned yet. Now, Ive only had it for two weeks, so I can't talk about longevity. But, what I do know, is that it has a long neck, so it is high enough not to be in the way. It has three, very bright, but not "here I am, i'm in your face" bright, LED's, because the LED'S are inset into the helmet. This keeps the light pretty much directional, where you want it. My experience is that these types of lights only last about three to six months. Even so, for the price of this light, the quality of light it puts out, and its design...if it only lasts six months, I will definately buy another one of these!

I went to walmart and office depot and they did not carry these lights...and I made a mistake when I went to best buy, everything there is double the price of what you can get thru amazon...Sorry I just changed my rating on this item to a one star, I have been using this light for about a month now, and suddenly I just turned my laptop on and one of the bulbs is burned out and the second one is flickering..I guess it was nice while it lasted...not worth the trouble contacting the vendor and I am not sure if they will replace...only cost 7dollars when I purchased plus shipping...now its at 14.99? you can get some cheaper ones thru amazon for a couple of bucks, that way when they burn out you can just trash..

No power switch but none is needed. LED's are recessed into the head meaning no glare if adjusted right which is easy to do. Can easily illuminate the whole key board when properly positioned. Flex arm stays put and is a good length to position LED head so display is not blocked. All in all a good design.

I ordered two of these lamps for my hallway. One box had been opened and the lamp looked as though it had been installed before (the wires looked like they had seen the inside of a wire nut). Fortunately no parts were missing. The second box was unopened but it was missing the collar that holds the glass shade to the lamp. Unfortunately, since the heavy glass shade is the last thing you install, I didn't realize this until I had installed the light. GRRRRRRRRRRR. I am sick to death of Chinese quality.

UPDATE: I reached out to Lite Source and they very kindly sent me the missing part. Excellent customer service!

I don't write reviews that often but posted my review to let others know that this is a product that will work if you plan ahead. These devices come in white and black. Anecdotally, white seems to cause more light reflection problems than the black versions. Buy a black one if your light fixture conceals the color.

I wanted to use energy efficient CFL bulbs to save some energy. The idea was that I would leave my two front door lights on all the time and arrive home at dusk to a well lit front door. Here are some problems that one needs to anticipate: if the light fixture is fully enclosed with reflective or frosted glass, the light from the bulb will bounce back and hit the sensor causing intermittent shut offs or blinking. This seems to occur more often if your light fixture is white or silver and if you use a very bright bulb (100 watt equivalent). I have black light fixtures with frosted glass. If the CFL bulb being used is too long, it sticks out of the bottom of the light fixture and looks ugly. This device also comes with tiny plastic tubular attachments that prevent the light from the bulb from bouncing back into the sensor; but, the problem is that these little attachments will also block the sun. These extension attachments prevent sunlight from reaching the sensor and the light stays on most of the day.

Here is my solution, albeit an expensive one. I ditched the little plastic extensions that cover the sensor. The sun now effectively turns the lights off at dawn. I replaced the CFL bulbs with shorter LED bulbs. The LED bulbs are very expensive. I bought mine at a big box retail store for $20 each! Mine are Sylvania brand with clear diffuser at the bottom. Some brands have yellow or frosted diffusers covering their LEDs. I use 8 watt LEDs which are about as bright as a 60watt equivalent and their color is more yellow than a CFL; but, their very short length compensates for the added length of the Dawn/Dusk controller. These new bulbs do not stick out of the bottom of my light fixture. The LED bulbs seem to cast light in a directional downward pattern that is more like a spot light (unlike a standard or CFL bulb which casts light more evenly); this is noticeable since any standard incandescent or CFL bulb will cast light in a 260 degree vertical pattern. You really have to look at the design of your light fixture and decide if a directional LED bulb looks right for you. If the added expense and the limited light dispersion pattern of an LED bulb does not bother you, the shorter profile and limited dispersion pattern of an LED light bulb seems to prevent the intermittent blinking and random On/Off problems that other users have described. With some planning it works for me; besides, my wife really loves leaving the light switch on all day and night. Problem solved.

Works great with CFL. Ordinary Dusk to Dawn light controls will cause flicker when used with CFL. I recommend this unit.

I am using this outdoors with CFL (curly) bulbs and had burned out some bulbs with previous brands that were not rated for CFL. What I like is two fold about this. First, they do not flicker like other controls, it is either on or off. Also, they have a protruding piece you can see on the socket end that makes contact in the fixture better but also allows you some flexibility to turn the control towards or away from sunlight to get better on/off timings. They also come with reducers that fit over the sensor that will cut down the light but I found that they cut it down too much and would stay on during the day. Overall, they are the best I have used so far.

This light control works really well. It comes with three plastic adapters that you can put in front of the light sensing element to limit the light that makes it through. I didn't need them, but it's nice to have them.

I installed it in my backyard porch and I wasn't sure if it was gong to work as sun light doesn't hit it directly (it is always in the shade). But it just works as intended (it's on at night and off during the day). I haven't experienced any problems (e.g. flickering, false trip, etc).

I'm using CFL bulbs.

i attempted to use it in a can light fixture in ceiling above my front door. the can causes it to strobe on and off at night. use of the filter causes it to stay on all day. i think the problem is the can.

I received this last month and installed it in less than ten minutes because I had an existing light that I was just replacing. The wires were there just a matter of shutting off the electricity, 2 screws off the old light 3 wires off, match the black, white and green wires with the new light and screw it in. Turn on the power and make an easy adjustment to make the motion detector less sensitive and I was done. My only negative is that I was missing one little screw cap and forgot to complain about it.

After two winters, this light works without a flaw with CFL light bulbs. It's very easy to install. I'm no electrician and it took me less than 1/2 hour to get it installed.

It adds a classy feel and it is well built and sturdy. It withstood two of NYC top 6 snow storms without any issues thus far.

It's sensitivity is adjustable. So you can control how far the motion sensor detects movement before it turns on.

I no longer need to dig in the dark to find the right key and worry whether I turned the lights off.

This is easily the best investment/purchase I've made on Amazon.com.

this lamp was easy to install and working well. My only issue is that is seems slow to respond when someone is walking up my drive way, but further research shows that the motion sensor works best with side to side motion not direct.

Fantastic looking; modern and just so hip! Just a few design/implementation problems: 1) Include the 3 lightbulbs...these are not standard sized and require 16.5mm bases...for the price paid, bulbs should have been provided! 2) Wiring is UNMARKED! All three wires are exactly the same color...no green, no black, no white...just three leads all the same color...how can you connect without knowing which wire is the ground? Had to use a meter to find the correct connection. Get a grip!!!3) The metal base plate that is used to secure the frosted glass to the fitting lacks any traction enhanced design, i.e. how can you screw the base on if you can't get a grip?? Other than these faults, the lamp looks great!
