I had been struggling with too cheap outdoor lights from big box home improvement stores. They would work for awhile, but inevitably collect water in the base socket after a big rain and trip my GFCI knocking out the lights and the timers they were set on.
I wanted individual lights that were rated for wet weather use, but I didn't want the type of lights that would be strung together and then operate off of some sort of transformer box. So, I went the route of individual lights and lots of good extension cords. Not the most elegant solution, but the cords are hidden nicely by my landscape mulch and I feel I have a good bit of flexibility in rearranging them if I wish.
So after balancing price and reader reviews, I decided to go with these Cooper 75W halogens. I was concerned about the lights being bright enough to light up my palm trees (live in Florida) and, of course, was dubious as to how water-resistant they would be. When I received my shipment (quickly and properly as is my customary experience with Amazon), the first thing I looked at was how these lights were sealed off from the elements. The whole unit is encased in sturdy metal and the only place where water would be an issue is the chamber where the light bulb is housed. However, the screw-on lid and protective glass make a nice tight seal. My confidence in the lights increased.
So, long review short, I bought a half-dozen of these lights and put them in almost two months ago. We have had above average rain since I put them in and no problems so far! They have stood up to the rain with no leaks or GFCI tripping. They light up my palm trees exactly as I wish not too dim and bright enough. They're green and for the most part blend in with my ground cover or are unobtrusive if standing by themselves. They adjust nicely for the angle desired.
For the money spent and the effects that I get can't be beat.

I had a Cooper light, model sp100 75W halogen. It was several years old and needed to be replaced. It was a good light so I ordered the exact same model number. The problem was that the old light had a light sensor that automatically turned the light "off" and "on" at "dawn" and "dusk"; the new light (exact same model number) does not have that feature. It is still a great light; I just had to purchase a dawn and dusk plug-in controller.Best Deals for Cooper Lighting SP100 Aluminum 75-Watt Halogen Landscape Light
These lights are made by Cooper, Regent, and also rebranded at Lowes under the Utilitech company. Essentially the same light. Lowes has them for sale for $20, but with tax, if you are curious.Back to the review. These lights are awesome and do the job wonderfully. Just run some outdoor extension cords under mulch, adjust for the right height and you now have a professional looking setup, at least to your neighbors. I have three lights total for now, but will expand later on. I have them on a timer and everything works as it is supposed to.
Spend $100 and get a $1000 lighting setup job for your landscape.

I had this light for a yard outside a hostel I stayed at for a month. I just needed it for a month to read or to linger on the desk when I got tired of the Swedes who were drinking all day. Well, after some time in use, it melted and eventually caught fire. The plastic is low grade, made in China without regards to safety. One doesn't put a hot bulb of this type on such plastic unless you expect it to go up in flames.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Cooper Lighting SP100 Aluminum 75-Watt Halogen Landscape Light
We've had three of these lights that we've used to light up our flag. They work really well until winter rolls around. The glass on the cap covering the bulb shatters. I'm guessing that the heat from the bulb and the cold snow cause this problem. I really like the convenience of the light, but I'm tired of having to replace it because of the broken glass cap, which then allows moisture to get to the bulb.UPDATE 12/9/12: Recently the fourth glass cap fractured. I called Cooper Lighting and talked to the Service Rep: ME: "The glass keeps shattering on the light cap." REP: "Yes, we've had that complaint before, but we have no replacement parts." ME: "Why does this keep happening?" REP: Well, the bulb gets really hot and sometimes cold air will cause it to shatter." BOTTOM LINE: They are aware of this problem, but have done nothing to correct it. MY ADVICE: Unless you live in a warm climate, DO NOT BUY THIS FIXTURE!
UPDATE 1/21/13: I again talked to a Cooper customer service rep. She acknowledged the problem with the lens and told me that when the glass isn't milled correctly around the edges, the lens with break. She sent me a new fixture. Hopefully the problem is resolved.
