I purchased this item for myself to put my bedside at night. I am 60 years old. I love the way it lights up my ceiling with all the stars & crescent moon. The light isn't too overwhelmingly bright, so it is great falling asleep staring my ceiling. I was first nervous about falling asleep without turning it off, esp. because it uses four batteries, but what I have discovered is, IT TURNS ITSELF OFF after a certain amount of time. I love it so much I plan to buy 4 more to give as gifts to my grandchildren. I figured if I like it, they will love it. Great gift idea for young and old.

I have had one of these in my sons room for the last 2 years and only had to replace the batteries just recently! It's wonderful for them to look at while they're winding down to fall asleep, and then shuts itself off after 30 minutes! Perfect! We take it with us wherever we travel, makes even a hotel ceiling feel like he's cozy at home!!! I just put it on the floor in the center of the room, and the walls and ceiling are covered in stars and a crescent moon, he loves it!!

Two things to know about this item that are not listed in the description:

1) The LED light is blue.

2) The light turns itself off after 30 minutes.

The fact that the light is blue does not bother me at all. However, the fact that it turns off after 30 minutes does bother me. I wish that it would stay on until manually turned off. I have this in my 2-year old daughter's room and I was hoping that it would function as a nightlight throughout the night.

That said, one nice feature is that there is a slot on the back of the unit so that it can be hung on the wall. Since my daughter is only 2, this needs to be out of her reach. The four separate battery compartments are standard and do not have any safety features (ie: screws) to keep them from being opened by a child. When she's older I will definitely let her have this on her bedside table. But, for now, I was able to quickly hang it on her wall with just a push pin.

Depending on where you position it in the room the shapes can look good or they can look fuzzy and somewhat distorted. Also, some of the star cutouts directly around the moon are a little rough, so they're always fuzzy looking. But once I found the right spot in the room the shapes look pretty good.

Overall I am pretty pleased, especially at this price point. But I took one star off for the fact that it turns off after 30 minutes, which was not listed in the description, and the fact that some of the stars are roughly cut and create a fuzzy image.

I like the brightness and the size of the moon/stars. It gives the appearance of a stary night. My kids like it. The only disadvanatage is that the light shuts of after 30min. It would have been the perfect night light if it could stay on all night long.

Stars look great projected on walls and ceiling, also has a automatic turn off feature so you don't use up all the batteries.
