not quite as bright as I wanted but this lamp is very versitile and saved us the cost of wiring a permenant light.

I actually ordered this light to attach to a wall-hanging jewelry box, because I have it in a dark corner of my bedroom. It's very handy because I attached it to the top of the box, and when i open the jewelry box I can swing the arm downward very easily and adjust the light if I want it to shine a certain direction. It works very well for my purposes, but is not quite as bright as I'd hoped. Not sure you could use this lamp to read by, unless you could arrange it very close to your book. Love the fact that it's cordless/battery operated, as I didn't want a cord running down the wall with an extension cord attached to reach the nearest outlet.
