After quite a bit of shopping around, I bought this light for a small frame to display my miniature collectibles. Overall I'm pleased with it. It produces a warm incandescent light with a slightly yellowish hue (I got the gold version, perhaps the chrome version would be different), but it's a flattering effect. Definitely a brighter and much more natural light than that produced by a 10-led strip I have. I would estimate that the light cast would be adequate for a picture up to approx. 34" wide by 24" tall. Construction seems to be solid, though I've only had it for a week. And the price is considerably lower than many other incandescent picture lights.

The main downside is that installation is not as "easy" as advertised on the package. You don't need an engineering degree to install it, but you will need a full set of tools, careful measurements, and some time. The instructions aren't very well written, either. This light runs on AC power only, and you have to actually cut the AC cord to install the on/off switch yourself. I can understand why it's designed this way, so that you can place the switch at your preferred location on the power cable, or opt for no on/off switch at all. The installation bracket for the light can be screwed into either the wall, or the picture frame. I opted for wall installation. Frame mounting would probably only work for large frames, since the light is fairly substantial in weight. Wall installation requires precisely drilling two 2" deep holes into the wall. Measure carefully, or the light will wind up at the wrong height, off center, or crooked. When in use, the light gets hot, so make sure it's not touching anything.

For under $30, it's an effective and professional looking display light. But if you aren't particularly handy with drills and tape measures, get somebody to help you.

I bought this light for a painting in our dinning room, is looks great.Gives off just enough light not harsh. The workmenship is beautiful, and can't beat the price.

Great light and easy to put together, just make sure the picture is no larger than double the length of the light. Otherwise it won't illuminate the entire frame.

I purchased 2 of these GE lights and I am glad I did. I always light my artwork and these have been used since November 2010 and they are still burning brightly. No bulb replacement at this time. Another reason, I love the lights, are because they are simply elegant and your eye doesn't focus on a outlandish light, but the art itself. There are 2 bulbs in the fixture and they light the art subtle; so the light is not distracting in family room with TV and kitchen in eating area.

The item photo doesn't show all the ugly hardware that is visible above your picture when this thing is mounted. You have a chrome bracket with several screws above a white transformer box (that also shows). So I find it misleading that they leave it out here in this photo. I also find it even more misleading when they show this white transformer box as a chrome box on the package photo. I looked through the package carefully and found no chrome cover for this white box.

This thing is UGLY and I'm returning it.
