I recommend opening the package, and letting it air out a day or so, as the silicone casing is odorous. They definitely seem waterproof. Lights are very bright, and is a richer blue than in the picture. Soldering the pads after scraping the silicone off was a bit tricky. It seemed like the copper was slightly tarnished on some of the pads. I just scraped it clean, and added a touch of Kester SP44 flux and then they soldered up fine.
Be careful not to let the silicone (top of the strip) touch itself, as it will stick together like glue. All in all, I am thrilled with the lights and the outcome of the project I used them for.
