1st bulb burned out within 2 weeks of use. After replacing the first burned out bulb, the second was about half the original brightness after 2 weeks of use. While inspecting each of the bulbs, I noticed that the outside glass of the double glass envelope was cracked in a couple of places on each bulb. These bulbs do not last anywhere near the claimed 2000 hours average lifespan. More like 100 hours at best.

I didn't know there were halogen bulbs with built in UV protection, but this has it and makes using halogen possible in many more fixtures than before.

If you aren't familiar with what I am talking about, it's simple. Halogen bulbs give off a lot of Ultra Violet radiation, enough to give you a sun burn and damage your eyes. Ordinary glass blocks his UV radiation and in accordance with code, all lights that employ halogen bulbs have a piece of glass covering the bulb-the bulbs also get insanely hot. The glass gets hot as well, but at least it prevents you from accidentally touching the bulb which would cause a very bad burn.

This bulb has a built in glass protector, basically a glass sleeve over the bulb. With this feature you can safely use it in any kind of light, as long as it's rated to handle the bulbs wattage.

I'm shouting because I feel cheated on this bulb. High wattage halogens are hard to find so I was willing to pay over $10 for this peculiar (very small size) bulb, especially because the seller said it would have an average life of 2,000 hours. Guess what-it lasted less than 400 hours! I'm not the only customer to experience this problem, so, unless you want a bulb for just a few hours you'd better just buy a regular incandescent (while you still can get them).

I can't vouch for long-term success (I've only been using it for a few photo shoots over month or so), but it's saving me a nice bit of change over the brand name modeling light in my old-style Calumet Travelite 750. Seems just as bright!

expensive bulbs last < 10 months. beware of this item. i made the mistake of buying two, thinking that i'd not have to replace them for a good, long time. wrong!
