The picture doesn't do the Leviton Blue 49600-BL3 justice. The Light Emitting Diode (LED) sends a blue light from the base of the unit thru a crystal clear cut flame shaped defuser. The defuser looks like cut crystal. My wife loves them. We bought a few packages and placed them throughout the house. They use a very small amount of electricity. (Each nite light has only one diode.)

In a dark house these were bright enough for me to see my way around but not too bright to bother me if its across the room. Your results will depend on your night vision ability. However, I bought a 3 pack and in less than a year only one is still working. Also these lights with things sticking up tend to catch on your clothes or other things if they're not well out of the way. I'm now preferring panel or hemispheric led lights.

I knew NOT to expect a 'nightlight' amount of useable light that would, for example, give just enough light to let you see what you're doing in that little 'utility room' you go to in the middle of the night. But these units give off ZERO illumination. On the package, they are referred to as 'guide' lights, so they should at least guide you to help 'avoid something'...such as preventing you from missing the top stair as you go downstairs in th middle of the night (providing, of course, that there is an AC socket at the top of the staircase). But they can't even do that. Only their plastic 'crystal' has a faint light surrounding it's edges, but NO light what-so-ever is 'projected outward' from this unit. So, what purpose could they possibly serve?
