I don't know what trouble Steve is having, but mine works fine. It comes on with motion only when it's dark and has worked consistently. I have had no trouble at all with it. The chord is about 2 feet long-that just means the motion sensor has to be near the light, and I think most people would want it there.

Installed this in a protected spot under an eave near my garage. Worked perfectly for 6 months and now suddenly failed. It's stuck in the on position. So maybe a photocell failure but not sure since the photocell is probably installed behind the white lens. Hoping to get a replacement or refund since 6 months usage is not acceptable. If I get a replacement or refund I will up my review accordingly.
Edit June 11, 2013: Please do NOT use fluorescent bulbs in this unit. The instructions don't specifically say not to but according to the techs you should use regular incandescent. Also I am now using only up to 40 watt bulbs to keep the heat down. The company replaced my unit quickly and since it might have been partly my fault in using wrong bulbs I'm upgrading my review to 3 stars. If it lasts for at least 2 more years I will upgrade again later.

I had a similar unit for 20 years, and then it gave out. When I tried to find a replacement, all I could find were wireless battery-powered ones. I didn't want that, as then you have to worry about replacing the battery! I wanted the 'wired' type, similar to my old one. This one is just right. No batteries required. It just plugs into my old light socket. It detects any movement, at night, within about 20 feet (via my adjustment). I would have preferred white, but hey, no big deal. I just painted it to match the house (except the sensor head of course!). Works great.

Would be five stars if the cord were longer. I can't mount the sensor head remote enough from the adapter for my needs. I contacted CS, and they told me that they don't have a solution for increasing the cord length. Wouldn't be that hard!

Lights turn on only when you wave your had inches from the sensors. I bought two of these abominations and neither of them have any consistent range beyond 5 or so inches from the sensor. Totally useless. It's not instant on either. The only good thing is the selectable time on increments. Those work its just that you have get the sensor to activate before you can benefit form it. I wasted my money. Would not recommend.
