Maglite 4D flashlight is a great all around light. Beats the 3D cell flashlight hands down. Think about it. When you purchase batteries they come in either a two or four pack. With a 3D cell light you end up with an extra battery that becomes useless. Your going to end up buying 4 D cell batteries to fill your 3 cell light. Might as well get the 4 cell light and use all batteries purchased. It also makes a handy baton.Cheap Maglite 4 D Cell Flashlight

I am a bit of a flashlight collector. I've tried big ones and small ones. AAA, AA, C , D, CR123 batteries. But if someone asked me which one flashlight to get if they only could have one, it would be the 4 D cell Maglite with a Terralux TLE-6EX upgrade 5W LED bulb. I have a Blue 4 D cell Maglite with the Terralux replacement bulb TLE-6EX. It has 140 lumens, and increased batteries life with the Led bulb. I prefer the 5W Terrelux bulb to the 3W Maglite led bulb. If you shop around as I did the combination of Blue Maglite, 4 Duracell D batteries, and Terralux replacement bulb cost me a total of $40. Maglites are built like a tank, waterproof, and have adjustable focus. I like the pretty blue or red Maglites. D cell batteries are commonly available, this model uses 4 D cells, so no left over batteries in the package, and at 140 Lumens put out plenty of light for most people, in most situations. Another plus is that it can be used as a defensive weapon if necessary. I know they make flashights that put out 500 to 800 Lumens now, but most people don't want to spend $100 to $200 for a flashlight with a couple of hour of runtime. I like owning many different kinds of flashlights for different situations. But for the one flashlight owner, this is a solid combination at a reasonable price. It should last a lifetime, or at least until they come out with an even better replacement bulb. Update 6-14-2009: Since I wrote this review, I have purchased a Malkoff Device LED upgrade for another 3 D Cell Maglite that I own. It is much brighter at about 250 Lumens, but also cost more at about $70. I did purchase the pre-cut reflector with mine so I could put the Maglite back to stock if I ever wanted to. Personally I prefer the Maglite with the Malkoff Device installed, but it cost $50 more the the 5W Terralux replacement bulb. If money is a concern, (and it usually is)go with the Terralux replacement bulb, otherwise I recommend the Malkoff Device for just more sheer brightness and throw, plus you still get the extend battery life over the stock incandecent bulb. Happy Flashlight hunting!
