This is a very cleverly designed device which does its job rather well. The IR movement detection seems adequate and responds fairly quickly. The light is not overpowering but is also adequate.

The mounting assembly is innovative using a magnetic latch in combination with either a simple mounting screw, which is stored inside the battery compartment, or a supplied double-sided circular adhesive tab. The screw is very tiny and requires a good quality #0 Phillips screwdriver to actually use it. If your wall is hard or brittle you will probably be better off substituting a slightly larger screw and conventional anchor, or using the adhesive tab. You'll want to mount on a wall, not the ceiling, to achieve the most secure installation.

The battery latch is tight and requires a small flat head screwdriver to open. You'll also need the screwdriver to set the tiny internal switch to on, off or auto.

I purchased 4 units to light a bedroom and hallways in my 88 year old Mom's apartment they all worked flawlessly.

Supplied with 3 AAA alkalines already installed a nice touch, so you're ready to go right out of the box.

I recently installed two of these to light up a windowless stairwell. They work very well. I installed one on the ceiling outside a basement bedroom, and it reliably comes on whenever it's dark and I walk into the area. I installed another at the top of the stairs, and it also seems to reliably come on as I start up the stairs.

I love the adhesive based mounting system the adhesive goes on a metal disc. The metal disc then adheres to the light with a magnet. This makes it easy to take the light off to change the battery. It also comes with a screw-based mounting method, but I didn't try that.

The light is actually brighter than I hoped. It's a nice pure white.

I ordered three of these. All worked in the "on" setting but the sensors all failed. One of them didn't work straight out of the box so I returned it. The other two stopped working about a month later. Unfortunately the 30-day return period had passed so I contacted the manufacturer who said they would send replacements. Instead of sending replacements they had the seller (DBROTH) contact me, who agreed to exchange them at MY cost. A few dollars shipping isn't a big deal to me, but I will not pay shipping to exchange for new lights every few months. I told both DBROTH and Hipe that I shouldn't have to cover shipping for their mistake. DBROTH completely ignored me, Hipe said they can't change the seller's policy. Maybe they can't, but they can send me the replacements themselves or they can cover the shipping for the seller. They verified my order numbers and they could ask for my units back but they didn't want anything to do with it probably because they know I'd be back in a month with more defective units.

I do not trust the manufacturer or the seller. They do not stand by their products.

Wish I could give negative stars

I bought this to light a dark staircase. The sensor does not work unless I actually palm it and even then it only goes on 50% of the time. Don't waste your money on this one.

Bought it in November. It "died" in February. Worked great while it lasted. Did not think it was supposed to be "disposable."
