I gave this as a gift to some friends...so I can't say that I ever personally watched this light 'in action'. However, my freinds told me that it gives off enough light just so you know that it's 'illumintaed', but it doesn't cast any light in the 'surrounding area' to 'light-up' any given amount of space. In other words, the lamp itself is 'lit' but it doesn't provide useable illumination for a walkway, etc. And my friends tested it during the summer, in full sun all day, in Southern California.

These solar light r just enough light to see at night. Here in the farm light helps at night for evening feeding. Free lights they r decorative and solar(no electric wires) ground here is very rocky so the stakes were not strong enough

These are so cute. I have them set in my garden by a bench. I was so surprised that there were two. I thought I was just getting one. They put off a nice glow at night.
