I received this combo as a Christmas gift having just bought the Makita 10.8v compact drill as well. I assumed the Makita would be the one to keep and broke it out, charged it up and headed out to the garage to hang some shelves. I was shocked to see the Makita not be able to drive a screw into a pilot hole in a 2x4, bogging down about a quarter inch before being flush. This was a major disappointment considering I really liked the weight, look, feel, and past success I've had with their products. Anyway, I figured I'd give the the Ridgid a shot, expecting a similar result being that the voltage was close to the Makita. The Ridgid was sweet. It powered the screws with no problem whatsoever and actually feels more solid than the Makita. When the Makita started to fail I had kind of made my mind up to go get an impact driver, which seem to be quite popular now. After using the Ridgid I don't see the need and am keeping it. It charges very quickly and the batteries seem to last just find. Time will tell if it is what I am hoping but I feel that it is a very quality product. In addition, the flashlight included is very solid and very bright. I figured it was more of a gimmick and afterthought included with the kit. However, it is a nice little flashlight. The only slight negative on the Ridgid is it is a bit heavier than I would like which I attribute to it having a chuck where the Makita did not. It is not heavy, just heavier than I would like.

The light is super bright, very happy there. The drill has plenty of power. My only complaint is that there isn't a place to store the driver bit when not in use. It seems like such a basic and simple addition to have overlooked.
