I will admit, I don't have kids and bought this for myself. The item isn't really a lamp...it's a cute interactive lights and display toy. I certainly can't read a book by it's light, but it is super awesome to watch and interact with. It's won my heart, and a trip back to amazon to buy the alarm clock so I can watch them interact. I think kids from 10 to 100 will adore interacting with the "lamp".

This was a gift for a very picky 12 year old girl. She's not into makeup and typically girly things, but she's not a straight up tom-boy either. The day the Room Tech Lamp arrived to my office I couldn't stop playing with it. It has a trial function while in the box, with lights and sound, and that was addicting enough, and I'm the adult here! Christmas morning when I gave it to her she opened it up and immediately put down the new video game to open the box up and see how it worked! Definitely read through the instructions to make sure you understand all the functions of the lamp. Am really looking forward to her birthday so I can get her the alarm clock and see if the alarm clock and lamp really do interact!

Arrived in a decent amount of time. No damage during shipping, though the product is pretty durable, so I imagine someone would have to sit on the box in order to break it!

It is completely worthless, cheaply made and stupid! It sounded like a cool concept when I stumbled upon it. It's not worth the hassle.

This lamp (and the alarm clock I also purchased) are cute and fun to mess around with. The alarm clock will wake my kid up just for the cuteness factor and the lamp works great as a night light she can make brighter if needed. The battery life seems to be good so far but these critters don't have any external buttons or instructions. That brings me to the problem.

Try going to hasbro's website and searching for "beingz". Nothing. Google Room Tech Beingz manual and you get nothing. Same with "instructions". Make sure to keep your booklets because you will NEVER find that information again. It is quite astounding really given that you can find manuals for TVs made in the 20s but it's like this product never really existed???

I can't believe for a product that (quite innovatively) has hidden controls and settings, they aren't making that information available somewhere. As you can read in the product description, tilt the head up, tilt the head back.... There are also side-to-side controls and a way to use the lamp to set the wakeup mode of the clock if I remember right but who would know without the manual. :-(

This is a fun addition to a kids room. We also have the alarm clock and the two do "communicate". The sound that the lamp makes can seem a bit eerie when the room is dark but that adds to the uniqueness.
