I received my lantern fully assembled. Very easy installation. Let it charge for two full days with the operation switch set to off. After my two day charge works like a charm. The brightness set on high is enought to brighten my walkway, as this portion of my yard is dark. I had an existing gas latern pole, and with a little banging the top of the pole with a hammer the lantern slid right on. I painted right under where the lantern cap stops as it didn't go as far down as the old gas lantern. True to size, doesn't look like a little cheap replacement. Is of equal size to the old gas lantern. It came on as soon as it was dark enough, and was still on this am when I left out at 5:30 am. So far I' very pleased with this lantern and would definitely encourage it as replacement lantern.

Light works great. In Hi mode it would not give light all night (March) but in Lo mode it was light until morning and still plenty bright. I added the second battery and I am now testing if light will stay on all night in Hi mode. Home Depot is best place to buy second battery.Best Deals for Gama Sonic Imperial Solar-Charged LED Lantern, 3-Inch Fitter
I have found that the light will stay on all night, but a single match will illuminate brighter and cover a larger area than this light on the higher setting. I watch it flicker from this supposedly bright setting to a dimmer setting every night I take my dog out. I will put up with this until next spring and run some wire for an A/C power light. I will sell this to someone in a garage sale for $5.00, I don't want a reputation of ripping people off.Honest reviews on Gama Sonic Imperial Solar-Charged LED Lantern, 3-Inch Fitter
Great light. I was finally able to replace my old broken gas post light and it matches the old fixture! This light is bright enough for the purpose that it serves and I like the fact that another battery can be added to extend the run-time of the solar light.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Gama Sonic Imperial Solar-Charged LED Lantern, 3-Inch Fitter
It works! I installed this lamp post lantern for our Ohio home in early December. The first day of charging it did not light up as mentioned in the documentation. The second day it did come to life! With the battery it comes with, it appears to last about 4-8 hours, depending on how sunny the day was. The lamp post is installed on the north side of the house and does not see direct sunlight during the winter months of the year, so I am quite pleased that it does work to some extent during December/January.This is solar powered technology and how it is deployed will impact it's effectiveness. To get the most out of this lamp it needs to be exposed to direct sunlight throughout the day. It's not the lamps fault if you install it under a tree.
This is LED technology and the amount of effective distributed light is a factor. The engineers of this unit came up with a platform with many small mirrors to help distribute the directional LED light. LED lights are extremely energy efficient, but their downfall is they are directional. The end result is a bright white light but with limited ability to light far beyond the post. The light it gives off is comparable to that of a natural gas lamp post. However, It will not light up the yard like an incandescent 40/60 watt bulb would.
This replaced a natural gas lamp post which I never kept lit to conserve on energy. Because my house during the winter months blocks the lamp from receiving direct sunlight, the the amount of time it stays lit in the evening is limited. With that in mind, it does stay lit for me during the important 6-11pm hours. It looks much nicer than a natural gas lamp post. My house also has motion sensing lamps on the garage and porch, so I was less concerned on the lighting power of this lamp and more concerned on it's esthetics and function. This unit is a winner in this regard.
This model is identical to the GS-97FG model. The one I received came with both an eagle and an acorn finial. I assume the acorn model also includes the eagle in the box so they don't have to worry about mixing them up during shipping (No guarantees though that you'll get both finials).
You can add an additional battery pack for $20 to this lamp. I just purchased a 2nd battery pack and will report back of the performance of the lamp with the second battery installed.
I read in the reviews for the acorn model that the 3-way switch on the lamp that's marked I and R stands for I-intense/high and R-reserve/low. I've toggled the switch both ways and can't tell a difference on the light brightness, so who knows.
I think there's a lack of competition for this market. When I did my research for a solar powered lamp for 3" lamp post, this was the only brand to offer anything of this quality. It is well made, but I think the solar and LED technology is much better today than the solar/LED technology that's included in this unit. A lot has changed in just 2 years.
