This unit appears to use a mechanical relay (you can hear a quiet click) to control whatever kind of lights you wish to use it with. I use this unit in my garage to replace the manual switch that was difficult to find when you entered the dark garage from the house; the switch was about two feet from the door. The Zenith switch reliably turns on the light when I go from the house into the garage and also when I walk into the garage from the drive way.
The only thing tricky about the installation was that it took me a while to find where the time and sensitivity controls were hidden; they are under the plastic piece that has the OFF AUTO ON labels on it.
I would have given a 5 star rating except for the fact when the manual control is set to ON and you change it to AUTO, the lights go off and then the switch does not detect motion for a period of time. But, with the 5 minute time setting there is normally enough motion to keep the lights on.
There were a few other units at a lower price, but I opted for this one because the specs said it work with florescent light. I was happy to pay a couple dollars more to get a switch that I knew would work.

I purchasd this product for my utility & laundry room just off the garage. Coming into a dark room every time from the garage was annoying (especially carrying items from the garage) and this solves the problem nicely. The 3-way feature was necessary as there are 2 light switches in my utility room. The installation manual has clear instructions and easy to follow flow chart should you not get the results expected. When I installed the single switch version of this product in my garage, I had everything wired and installed in 10 minutes. The 3-way switch proofed more challenging. There were 5 wires 1 on the remote switch and 4 on the motion-activated switch. I wired everything except the ground-wire wrong on my first try. This isn't the manual's fault, but it did provide VERY clear directions and an EASY to follow flow chart to correct the problems. I was up and running in 30 minutes and it works great.

My garage like most owners' is pitch black and accessing the light switch isn't convenient. I installed this motion detector to handle 2 CFLs and 2 flourescent fixtures that are tied to the same circuit. The switch handled it like a champ. Though I did not need the (3) way diagram, I simply had to tie both the brown and red wire together to bypass it (it's in the instructions). While this came with a faceplate, I also installed a Honeywell Econoswitch RPLS740B 7-Day Solar Time Table Programmable Switch for Lights and Motors to control my outdoor lights, so I had to purchase a dual duplex cover. The motion sensor works well, when I am entering the garage, the delay is possible half a second. When I am in the garage however, the motion isn't as responsive further away. I love that there is a light sensor as I do not need the lights on when I've got the garage door open and I'm enjoying the weather. Bottom linelove this product and would purchase again.Honest reviews on Heath Zenith SL-6117-WH Motion-Activated Wall Light Switch, White
The installation was fairly straight forward as far as wall switches go.The motion detection range is decent, the angle width isn't as much as I would like but for this price, it's great!
When setting up the time length, you have to be very precise; the slightly tick of the knob can make the switch stay on from 1 min to suddenly 5, but that should only be done once upon installation so that wasn't a major factor for me.
Basically it works as you would expect and looks better than a lot of the competition. it also comes with a wall plate and screws.

I purchased one of these switches because it states it is compatible with LED and Florescent bulbs, well it is NOT!I installed two florescent fixtures in my garage and this switch would randomly turn them on/off/on and left them mostly on. Once it shut them off, it would turn them back on within a few seconds. I contacted Heath Zenith Tech Support and they assured me I had a defective unit and should return it for a replacement. Well, I returned it and installed the replacement with identical faulty operation. I called Heath Zenith Tech Support again and this time they said, well we know it will not control Florescent bulbs and LED bulbs it will only control incandescent bulbs. They now admit that they have given up on trying to redesign this switch to make them suitable for Florescent bulbs and LED bulbs and I should return them for a full refund which I am in the process of doing. They have discontinued this switch for that reason.......
Pity since I am converting all my lighting to LED bulbs and some florescent fixtures. If anyone knows of a motion detector switch that will work with LED bulbs and florescent fixtures, please let me know (hgerhardt@wavecable.com).
