It came with three generic AA 900 mAh rechargeable NiMH batteries. I put the lamp up with these batteries and it lasted about a week before a very windy night (and a car cover) had the lamp on all night and killed them. I replaced the batteries with Duracell rechargeable (over 2000 mAh) and it's been working great for about a month now. It's plenty bright enough to let me find my key and get it in the lock. It even illuminates a good 20-25 feet of my driveway well enough to move around and see.
Mounting is flexible. The pole mounting option is OK but I would have preferred a simpler wall mounting set-up. The wire that leads from the unit to the solar panel is a good 15+ feet long (User Manual says about 5m). I used a long twist tie to mount the solar panel to a gutter leader.
There is an on-off switch. It's a fairly solid toggle switch on the bottom of the unit that is easily accessible. I use this to turn off the fixture if I'm anticipating a really windy night.
The battery compartment is accessed by unscrewing 2 Phillips head screws and then pushing up on the lamp body.
The one thing this unit needs is a sensitivity dial for the motion detector. For my needs, I would reduce the range to about 5 feet if I could because I only want it on when I'm at my door. Any movement turns on the light, animals, trees or bushes being blown, wind chimes being blown, etc. Stronger batteries would also be nice but for the price I paid ($15 as a daily special) it was a great deal.

Worked well for a couple years then I left it behind when I moved. Noticed it turned on a lot when I saw nothing around to set it off, no big deal, would buy again if I needed something like it.
