The box states the bulb will last about a year and half based on 4 hours of usage 7 days a week. I bought 6. The first bulb to die was 6 months later in the fixture over the sink that hardly ever gets used. Two-three months later two more bulbs are out. I don't spend a lot of time in the kitchen so the lights are usually off. I ordered replacements and got up to replace the first bulb and notice the bulb has separated from the socket and is dangling by its wire! I got up to replace the second one and found it to just be loose. A tiny turn and it was shining again. I sat down to eat a bowl of ice cream. I returned to the kitchen to find it burnt out! I got back up to replace it, and the bulb separated from the socket just like the other one! Now I have two dangling lights I have to gracefully remove somehow. Three lights in less than a year. I'm not impressed.

We have two ceiling fixtures over tables for dining and card playing. Both have three globe lights and a center spot. When our previous Philips finally burnt out after 4 years, I ordered six more of this same bulb.I thought about going to fluorescent, but after using one that we have in my office, we found that they in general have too much glare and they are not as directional as the Philips spot (I think that, since the light is pinpointed, "spotlight" is a better term for these bulbs than "flood.")
Whether Philips is better than Sylvania or GE I can't say. What I can say is that this is a spot light with just the right angle to cover the center of the table. They last quite a long time considering their use. And they're reasonably priced.
