Despite the statement on Amazon and Lamps Plus web sites that this product contains 75 one watt LEDs (which would be equivalent to roughly 300W to 600W of incandescent light and would be sufficient for a room of any size), the manual included with the lamp clearly states that LEDs are just 0.1 Watt each. The total LED power is therefore just 7.5W, which is equivalent to merely 60W to 75W incandescent light bulb. We installed it in our living room, and indeed it feels about like a 75W light enough to see, enough to walk and do basic chores in semi-darkness, not enough to read. It works for us because we have torchiers and halogen track lights in the other end of the room. I doubt it can be used as the main and the only lamp in any room. Just not enough light.

In terms of design, it is a super-contemporary chandelier with strikingly non-standard design which in the dark looks like an UFO. It does attract attention both by its design, and by brightness of its lights.

It came in a plain brown box, quite well packaged with plenty of carboard inserts to protect the rods. The supplies needed for installation were well thought-through besides the usual mounting screws and electrical isolation caps, one gets several cable ties and a little screwdriver for the plastic screw that does not let the wire slide back and forth. In contrast, the manual is ridiculously useless a single photocopied page which is partly incorrect and incomplete. You look at that one page "assembly instruction" and read on the drawing that there should be "black or smooth fixture wire", "white or ribbed fixture wire", and "fixture ground wire". You look at the wires and see that there are a ground wire and three identical looking white wires. One of them has a poorly attached "N" sticker which in my case fell off while unpacking. I was able to figure out where that sticker belonged with the ohm-meter since it turned out to be electrically connected to the separate ground wire. The other two white wires look and feel identical, but the lamp works if you connect them to 120V. The mechanism for locking three metal cables which keep the lamp in the suspended position seems to be well designed, the automatic locking mechanism is very convenient but you will have to figure out how to use it on your own since the instruction does not even go there. A good thing about the cable locking mechanism was that it is possible to adjust the length of the 3 cables within a small range to make the lamp perfectly horizontal even after the lamp is fully attached. I also liked how flexible the cables are. The last but not least, one has to figure out by himself what to do with the excess wire and cables. The first instinct there is so much excess cable and wire that one will have to cut it and then fear what if we install the light and decide we want it lower, or if we decide to return it how to go about the cut wires? As it turns out, one does not need to cut the cables or the wires with the help of the enclosed cable ties, one can carefully fold the excess wires and cables and fit them under the cap.

The lamp is relatively small. Only every other metal rod in this "hedgehog" has an LED. The light is directed only sideways. LEDs do not appear to have lenses, so the light, albeit weak, is not focused and goes out in a fairly homogenous pattern without bright spots on the walls. It feels like the light is emited pretty much is all directions. With 7.5W of LEDs, it burns almost no electricity. It is not too heavy and has a very substantial length of wire and cable which enables one to install it at almost any distance from the ceiling.

It is a pity that lack of adequate instructions and grey appearance of the box makes one think about the classical low-end "made in china" goods and makes one wonder how much profit the retailer made on you if such small corners were cut on you to reduce the cost. It really does not cost that much to write good instructions and make the box look a little nicer. Once installed, it looks great. People who step into your house and have not read the instructions and have not seen the box would probably be stunned by its modern appearance it looks like nothing you've seen before. If only it would give more light... Forget about the illumination of the room it is a decorative blend of Christmas lights with a designer night light.
