I have just started playing around with LED lighting and plan to do lots of it. This was one of the options I was hoping to use in the kitchen as indirect lighting under the cabinets but they really aren't birght enough for that purpose. Instead, I will be using them along the top of the cabinets as accent lighting. A better pick for under the counter would be 5050 LED strips and buying in bulk. These are useful but not they way I originally intended.

This product worked for 5 minutes then it just broke. The power cord and everything was fine, i just pulled it out of the terrible packaging plugged it in and turned it on and then it just died, could not get it back on and tried my grandpas outlets too.

Went through the same drill as Badabing did. Same results, :( Ended up putting the LED strip in aluminum channel and lacing monofilament line down its length, then screwing that channel up under the shelf. The remote works....eventually, but when working has a nice "show-off" reward.

Apparently LED technology has surpassed sticky tape technology, at least in China.

I bought two sets of these lights for twin bookshelves in my office. They worked great right out of the box. The remote from one works with the other set as well. The remote works fine, even from across the room. The lights are bright enough to light the book case top shelf, but I wouldn't use them for task lighting (such as working on a model airplane or something like that), there are much better light solutions for such things. I like that the LEDs can be dimmed with the remote as well, nice feature to have.

Installation was very simple. I drilled a hole in the back of the bookcase, threaded the LED strip through, stuck the power box and remote sensor to the back of the bookcase (keeping the eye of the sensor sticking out the side of the case), and plugged it in. I cut the LED strip to the right length, peeled the cover on the adhesive backing, and stuck them to the ceiling of the bookcase. It looked fantastic. The other one was even easier because I already knew how long to cut the strip of lights.

Unfortunately, the first set failed to remain stuck and I found them on the shelf the next day. I stuck them back up and pressed harder... no luck, a few hours later they came down again. I used some heavy duty doublesided tape next. I put a strip of tape the entire lenght of the bookcase top and stuck the light strip on it with a lot of pressure. This lasted another day and they came down again. The adhesive on the back of the light strip is just very inadequate (by the way, the bookcase is all wood).

I finally resorted to tacking the light strip up with heavy duty staples. This worked but was a real pain to accomplish. The second set seemed to stick...for about three days, then BAM it came down too. Staples for that sucker as well.

All in all, I would recommend these if you have a better way to adhere them to the surface you're using.

I bought 5 of these, and they all had the umber glass panels. Been using them for just over a year and they are very stylish and work beautifully. Not sure why the other reviewer did not receive the glass inserts, but I did. It is something you should double check if you order these.

I contacted Amazon.com and am was referred to Kichler. Kichler replied promptly. There is no glass. Apparently the picture of the fixture trumps the text of the product description. Kichler feels that Amazon.com needs to fixt the text.

I find this thing to be amazing though I was thinking it would be a 360 degree black light. :( oh well its still sure to light up your room nicely. A little tip though when you try it for the first time and turn it on don't worry that it isn't lighting up, turn the lamp with the cord toward you and turn the bulb to the left gently of course and its good to go. Though probably should not have it plugged into anything to reduce shock, or shorting it.

I got this long time ago for an entertainment room (along with another model). This model is quite heavy compared to most of the other models out there which are mostly have a flat ballast. This one is quite thick over all, and unlike the flat models, uses an electronic starter (which will have to replaced after so many usesthat being said I've had this for 5 years and haven't had to change it yet.) Unfortunately the power on this item is quite low and doesn't have any real unf to it like the longer models (this one uses an 18" tube) Even in a dark room, it struggles to provide enough energy to make things glow more than a few feet away.

Really, I would suggest getting at least a 24" blacklight (which amusingly are cheaper than this!) if you want something with a bit more power.

The one nice thing about this product is it has foil glued under the tube to reflect the light back forward.

I never expected to spend this much on a lamp, but I needed a good reading lamp, so I bit the bullet! I'm pretty pleased with what I got. Will be using it very very heavily in the near future, so I'll be posting an update in a few months.

Pros

=====

-The 3 color settings are very handy, especially since it's hard to gauge exactly what color temp a lamp will be just by looking at a number (unless you're very good at that ;) ) The warm setting was actually pretty good, as I didn't expect much coming from a LED lamp. The 3 intensity settings were handy too! I'm glad I went for the multi-temp one over the other 4300 model.

-Well-built. Some parts are plastic, but it's not a huge deal, as everything seems very sturdy. The manual does say that the lamp CAN get loose with a lot of adjusting, but you can use a quarter to tighten the screws on the hinges.

-Easy on the eyes! My eyes didn't get too tired while reading with the lamp, which is great. I haven't done anything intense yet, but I'll be doing maybe 8-hour sessions in the future. Will update with results when I get a chance.

Cons

====

-Price. I'm not sure if the lamp is really worth $110. Then again, you can find similar LED lamps around the price range too, so I guess that's normal. Even so, I wasn't completely blown away by the product. If I had my way, I'd probably pay around $80-90 for the unit.

Side notes

====

-The lamp will not illuminate a huge area. It's plenty large enough for reading several textbooks, or even illuminating your bed if you have this on a nightstand, which is fine since this is a desk lamp. If you want to illuminate a small room, you'll need to supplement this with a regular room lamp.

-The maximum brightness level on the coldest temp still isn't as bright as other lamps I've seen, but it's sufficient for my needs. The light output is in the description, but I honestly can't turn that number into something useful, so I'm not downrating the lamp for this. I'll likely have it on with a regular room light anyways, and I'm mostly glad I didn't get a lamp that was so horribly blinding...to the point where the light bouncing off the page would make my eyes hurt. So this was good. ;)

-Make sure you take note of the dimensions if you're worried about size. The lamp was a little larger than expected, judging from photos alone, but that was no big deal for me.

-The upper part of the lamp does swivel sideways a little bit.

-The anti-glare filter does seem to cut glare, but don't expect your textbooks to be glare free. ;D

Cheap Paradise GL22764CI Low Voltage Cast Aluminum 11-Watt Three Tier

I spent nearly 20 years replacing Intermatic Malibu lights which at best would last 5 years. For about the same price, these lights appear to be made much better in several ways.

Bolts are used to screw the top onto the base instead of directly onto the plastic lens. With the Malibus, either the lens breaks from the pressure of the top, or the top blows off down the street.

The connector box is well designed to make a good water tight connection. With the Malibus you have to squeeze real hard with your thumbs, but you can use a screwdriver on these to force the prongs into the wire.

2 Year Update: These lights have held up very well, however when I ordered additional lights I was disappointed to find that they have replaced the connector box with a contraption similar to the Malibus that you have to squeeze around the supply wire. Still think these lights are far better than the Malibus.

I love the way these look and the workmanship of the metal is really good. The problem is the manufacturer's selection of a T5 socket. These are a small wedge based bulb that has a life expectancy of 500 hours. If you run these lights for 6 hours a night you will be replacing the bulbs every 2.5 months if they don't encounter any little power spikes to burn them out sooner and they live up to there full potential. Our experience is that many of them only last a month. If you run the lights all night long you will be replacing them monthly or sooner. I know one reviewer said he replaced them with LED bulbs but I have been unable to find a source of LED bulbs for a T5 socket that gives off enough light for outdoor use. I am going to see if I can rewire them for a different socket but realize this would void any warranty. I cannot recommend them.

I changed my review from 1 to 3 because I still think the T5 is a poor choice for bulbs for outdoor lighting as the bulbs are typically 300-500 hour but the fixture itself is sound. After lots of research I found an LED bulb that fits the light and am pleased with the results. superbrightLEDs is the place that has them for 6.95 each. WLED-xHP15-TAC: 194 LED Bulb 15 SMD LED Wedge Base Tower WLED-CWHP15-TAC: Cool White is what I ordered. The cool white is not the same color as the original white but had the highest lumens so I bought it. You may prefer the other white.

These lights get great reviews, and they're priced significantly cheaper than Malibu, so I ordered 12. They assemble easily, and appear solidly made, though, in truth, the fixtures are almost identical (if cheaper) than the Malibu. The few that work (see below) are nice and bright with a pleasing warm color temp.

But when I went to connect them, 10 out of 12 of the connectors cracked in half! 10 out of 12!!!! Specifically, these connectors, like Malibu's, have two interlocking clips that you line up and push together around the wire. Each clip has an ergonomic thumb depression. The crack would occur straight across the middle of the thumb depression upon applying even a small amount of pressure to push the clips together. I was using a thicker 12agw wire, but the lights are supposed to be compatible with that.

Very frustrating. To the manufacturer's credit, I called them on a Friday afternoon, easily reached a friendly, English-speaking CSR, and they are supposedly going to send me some "connector boxes" to replace the clips. Installing those will take more effort, but at least it should resolve the problem with the flimsy clips.

I don't see anyone else complaining about this, so maybe I just got a bad batch.

Previously had a more flimsy style path lights made of thin metal on the screw-on lid and ring, they got bent and flown off over time. The spikes were made of plastic. Finally had to replace them with these lights. At less than $12 each a much better looking light that should last for years.

The lid is made of metal and with 3 screws onto the body which is also metal (except for the plastic light shield which emit opaque light), I dont have to worry about lids flying off during strong wind. The bulb inside is 11 watts (compared to my old 4 watts) and really lit up the pathways.

The spike is also made of metal and easily insert into the ground.

The best part is the installation. Each light has a clamped-on style electric connector that one simply clamped on to existing ground wire like a vice-grip, and voila, light is on. Easy as 1,2,3.

VERY well made much better than the other "popular" brand. The aluminum is very heavy gauge, high quality casting. The top is held on securely by three screws, which when removed allow complete disassembly for cleaning. The electrical connectors are first rate, positive contact on the first try every time and very sturdy should hold up indefinitely.

Pretty cool how far LED has come. I was a bit disappointed in the blue tint to the bulbs. I used plastic filters to change the color a bit. Other than that, the high cost was tough to take, but I wanted the best available.

These lights are bright and perfect for under the kitchen wall cabinets. They screw up into your cabinet's first shelf. My husband wired our new kitchen knowing that we would have one on these lights under each cabinet. The final wiring was not that much fun being upside down under the cabinet and getting all the wire back in the little hole but that's wiring for ya. He had them direct wired to a switch. They all come on at one time but each unit has a on/off toogle switch so you can turn on or off as many as you want for more of a task ligting rather than lighting up the entire kitchen counter effect. I think they are over priced but they are suppose to last a long time. We did have one that went dim or was dim as soon as we got it up. The company had no problem sending us a new one and we were instructed to recycle the broken one. Our local dealer wanted way more money than what we purchased them for here.

UPDATE, 8.07.2012: It is over 4 years old and still holding up. The one complaint I had is that the bulb looks ugly inside it. I recently used Rust-Oleum 1903830 Frosted Glass 11-Ounce Spray, Frosted Glass to frost the glass and hide the bulb completely. It looks like a brand new lamp! Please view the images I uploaded.

GLASS FROSTING STEPS (should go without saying, but be careful with sharp glass. It tends to be, uh... sharp):

1Remove bulb.

2On inside of light, carefully bend metal tabs away from glass (just enough to free glass).

3Remove each pane of glass.

4Degrease / clean the glass well and dry with a new, lint-free rag.

5Take them OUTSIDE (well away from things you don't want coated in spray paint, like your car).

6Place them on a small, sturdy piece of cardboard with a small gap between each glass piece.

7Follow instructions on can. I did about 5 wet coats.

8Carry the cardboard inside to dry.

9Re-install glass after paint dries (~ 1 hour). Painted side faces INWARD towards bulb.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

It still looks like new after several years of exposure to the harsh Virginia elements! When set to Dusk-to-Dawn, you can leave the light switch on and forget it. The dual-brite function is a really nice touch.

IMPORTANT! If you use a compact fluorescent bulb (CFL), only use a DIMMABLE CFL! Most CFLs are not dimmable, so when this fixture attempts to dim the light (by reducing voltage to the bulb), the CFL ballast dies! It happened twice before I realized the reason. Also, because of the way ballasts work, the dual-brite function becomes hardly noticeable.

After spending several hours looking for a Lantern Style lamp with a motion sensor, I found out that the choices as very limited and most of the ones out there available are extremely expensive. After I found this lamp in Amazon at a very low price I was a little worried the product was not going to be of good quality but once I received it I was very pleased with it looks and quality (good materials and craftsmanship). This lamp is a great bargain and looks and works great. Easy to install.

I bought this a couple of years ago for a vacation rental home. It looks very nice and I really like the way it worksthe light comes on at dusk and stays on at a low level, brightening if something triggers the motion detector. After a few hours it goes off and then is still activated by the motion detector until dawn. The only problem I had with it was I stupidly put a non-dimmable compact fluorescent bulb in it which flickered when dimmed. Now I use a 40 watt incandescent bulb in it which provides plenty of light. Since dimmable compacts are available now I plan to try one in it.

Bought two of these through Amazon about 9 months ago. Both were configured to turn on at sunset and turn off at sunrise. A couple days ago a bulb on one of them went bad. After replacing the bulb with, the fixture no longer works as before. It stays on 100% of the time.

Long story short after tinkering with it for a weekend, I emailed the manufacturer and got a quick response back stating multiple reasons for unit going bad. Coincidentally the email states that a power surge or a bulb failure could permanently damage the unit something their own support website conveniently fails to mention.

If you buy this product, better make sure a.) your bulbs don't burn out and b.) your power never surges. It looks to me that the company engineers failed to account for those two factors during circuit design.

The only PRO about the product is that it looks better than those other motion sensing units you get at those major home improvement stores.

BTW. The other unit is still working... not sure for how long.

---4/24/12 Update ----

After contacting the manufacturer via email and providing the Amazon receipt they shipped two new units. Great customer service! One of the original units is still working as expected.
