There are very pleasing bulbs for applications where you don't need a lot of light...they are probably equivalent to a 25W incandescent bulb. Light color/quality is great...nice soft white that looks very close to incandescent.

I've put a couple of these in my outside lights and use one in my bedside lamp for reading.

Only downside is they are a little spendy.

Is this ICE Lava Lamp as cool as a regular Lava Lamp? Well, no -what could be? After all, the original Lava Lamp has been an object of fascination since the sixties, with its truly random and mesmerizing interaction of colored wax and oil.

But this ICE LL is a nice color-phasing LED lamp in the shape of the iconic groovinator.

We'll see how reliable the ICE proves to be; the electronic plasma LL was DREADFUL. I received several units DOA, and the one that did work out of the box died in a few months.

Happily the ICE seems to be more solidly built. You can set it to phase through various colors, sometimes a single red, blue, or green, other times a combination of these tints, creating additional pastels. Or you can set the lamp to glow pure white, perhaps to light a ceremonial occasion of some sort!

But I like the ICE better than the color-phasing LED tube it replaced on my cabinet, as the "ICE" crystals give the colors added depth and interest.

One thing the ICE offers over the original LL is instant operation -no hour warm-up required! And no incandescent bulbs to replace either...

I'll report back when and if the ICE malfunctions. In the meantime I consider it an enjoyable addition to my collection of color-phasing accent lamps, and I think you will too.

My 8 year old daughter really likes this lamp. It was a better price than other "lava"-like bedside/desk lamps, making it more affordable for a child's budget. She likes it just as much as the more expensive ones.

Packaging was pretty cool too.

There is a slight blemish on the base were the silver coating did not quite stick or got dinked. Maybe a little better QA by the manufacturer going forward would be nice? Still, for the price this was worth it.

This met all my expectations and then some. It is hypnotizing to watch it and at the same time very relaxing. The description was not quite accurate in that it under-described the lamp and its beauty. The colors are pure and intense, not at all muddy. I'd love to buy one for every one of my friends. Heck, I'd even buy them for my enemies if I had any, they would be to busy watching the lamp to cause any trouble.

Anyway its okay for 25W bulbs. I ordered 3 and got one that had few leds burnt out. Otherwise everything worked.

I've tried a number of LED light bulbs, and this one is impressive. It is very reasonalbly priced and gives fairly warm lighting. In certain situations, (color of the room, the lamp, ect), it gives off a very attractive glow. In others, it can look like a florescent. It is the equivalent to 30 watts of a standard bulb, but for $10, you can't beat the price.

This is a good bulb for use in applications where a light must be left on for long periods, such as a porch light. It can cause some radio interference if located close to a radio. I've had one for a couple of years that is on all night, and it's still working fine. It doesn't seem to be as bright as a 25w incandescent, but it's close.

These LED bulbs are not really "warm" white light, but unlike a lot of led lighting they are not too miserably blue to use indoors (like the otherwise excellent and indestructible Westinghouse Nanolux). The bulbs emit perfectly reasonable pure white light, though I would compare the output to that of a 15-25 watt bulb. If you have a multi-bulb E26 vanity fixture over your bathroom mirrors like we do (which used to be full of 25 watt incandescents), then you have a really good application for this bulb. Also, reading lamps come to mind, and we are also using them in single bulb hallway fixtures where we only need enough light to walk safely. My only complaint is that we bought them in two different batches, and the color is slightly different between the two batches. Not a big deal, but noticeable. Good product overall if you want to start enjoying LED energy savings. We will probably buy more.

Bought a second one, they've ended up in a hallway fixture and porch light, both of which now stay on 24x7. Not as bright as the 75W bulbs they replaced, but plenty bright for the purpose and uses so much less energy.

Compared to compact fluorescents these are about twice as efficient, but still much more expensive. And safer... while there are toxic chemicals used in production of LEDs, none of them end up in the bulb so you don't have to worry about what would happen if one broke.

Compared to incandescents, the up-front cost is ridiculous, but the long lifetime means you save time changing bulbs. And they run so very much cooler. This particular model has the same warm white color as incandescents, so don't let worries about "bluish LEDs" stop you. For a difficult-to-replace location or a light that needs to stay on for long periods, can't beat LED.

And hopefully the price keeps going down, as economies of scale take effect. I'll definitely be buying more, but I'll also be waiting as long as possible hoping the price goes down.

I bought 12 of these to replace an older type. It was just as well that I bought extra as only 9 work. They are made from a brittle plastic which breaks very easily so be careful when you screw them to the post.

I bought 20 of these to put on our fence posts. They meet our needs, they all functioned properly out of the box and are working fine after a week of use but I agree with some of the other reviews stating the plastic these units are constructed with is cheap. The bases on most of the units cracked when mounting them. I had to add additional drain holes (internally) since they filled up with rain water after a few showers. The components are "press fit" but the the top portion consisting of the solar panel and the lamp lens is easily knocked off. I bought these even though I read the other negative reviews and agree with them but I couldn't find any others with this style at this price. Time will tell how durable they are.

I was just looking for some additional lighting to add outside in our yard so when taking the dogs out we don't have to worry about having anything ready to go (flashlight, does it work? etc.). I thought an added bonus would be if the lights could add some motion sensor functionality and definitely needed solar due to power sources are non-existant where I'd like to intall them.

After charging the light yesterday, we temporarily installed it close to where it will be permanently placed because I needed to know the performance level before taking the effort to get it placed there. I was happy to see there is a dim light eluminating the area but when you get up to it, the brightness pops into effect. It disorientated and surprised me in a good way. I think if someone 'found themselves' into our yard in the middle of the night, they'd have sun spots distracting them so I can let my dogs out on them.

I'm actually so happy with them, I'm purchasing more to add some on the far side of our house too.

100% worth the money, time to install!

I bought this from another source and I am thoroughly satisfied. I waited about a week before I even opened the package. I was skeptical. I bought a different set of motion sensitive batter operated lights that have "issues."

This light is high quality and beautiful in design. The only area I can see where someone may have a problem is that you have to insert the "key" into the left hole. The words (on/off) are printed on the light. To activate the light you must insert the key into the tiny on hole. To stop the motion from being detected, I assume you insert the key in the off hole.

I tried an experiment last night. I left a moldy chicken on the porch in front of the light. This thing kept all the critters away. I am very pleased and want to purchase more of these to use inside! Because of the design you can charge this outside & close the metal overhang in between two cabinet doors. I do not have overhead lights in portions of my old house. Using these lights is a whole lot cheaper than rewiring a house! This light is the brightest light that I have among the lights that are non electric. I'm prepared for the storms this year!!! No more fumbling around in the dark for me and my animals.

I am sort of surprised at the size of this light. It really is only about the size of a grown mans open palm and less than a pound in weight. Easy to turn on with the little 'key' and very simple to mount with the screws / anchors that's all supplied with the light. I installed it above my house numbers on the porch of my home. It stays lit at about 10% brightness in darkness which illuminates the house numbers nicely and as soon as it senses motion it goes right to full brightness which lights up the porch steps and entry so no more stumbling / tripping around when I forget to leave my porch light on. I feel that it will work for many years to come it has that feel to it! We will see and I'll report any difference.

This solar motion control outdoor light meet my expectation. Nice, modern,quality use of material. Motion sensing responsive, bright when activated, when dimming it gives pretty good amount of light. Installation is easy, once you choose location you want, took me less than 10 min total (marking, drill, screw down)

So far, this seems like a great product! The 16 LED outdoor solar security light is totally AWESOME so far it's been installed outside on a fence post for a week now. Very bright and COOL!!! In fact, I'm amazed how bright it is. It lights up dim giving a nice ambient glow when it gets dark. Then, if anyone goes within about 4 feet of it, it lights up VERY bright. It's quite small, not much bigger than your open palm, but wow does it light up!

I paid $29.99 which I think is a reasonable price. But if they were cheaper I'd buy 10 of them to put all around my yard. They look great and offer more security. I'm in Florida, so it has been getting plenty of sun to charge. It has also been raining here for the entire week it has been installed and so far it is water tight and fine. I'm really hoping that it is high quality enough to last because we love it. If it is still working this well and surviving the water in a week then I'm ordering 2 more. If they are still good in 2 months, I'm ordering 2 more. I'll keep ordering until my yard is all lit up!

9 ft is the measurement of the whole product, not the ribbon itself. for 20 dollars, i expected it to be at least a good design. after all, fabric and LEDs are very cheap to make. but, it requires a screwdriver to open the battery box, so i haven't even been able to test it out.

I have these wrapped around one of my floor lamps. The ribbon looks reasonably attractive when the lights aren't on and the lights are lovely. One HUGE drawback: I had to buy a new teeny-tiny tool set to open up the battery case. That was irritating, but I needed the teeny tiny tools for things like eyeglasses anyway.

Just want folks to be aware that these measure approximately 6.5" in length, or about an inch longer than a typical-sized incandescent bulb (like 60 or 100 W variety). I was interested in getting one of these to replace the 50/100/150 W incandescent bulb in my living room lamp (the tall, free-standing kind), but found it to be too long as it comes out of the top by about an inch. For now I am waiting for a company to come out with a CFL 50/100/150 equivalent that matches up in size better.

If you're looking to move to more environmentally-friendly lighting, these are for you. These 3-way spiral fluorescent bulbs are wonderful. I haven't had mine long enough to address the extended lifespan. But they serve beautifully as a replacement for standard 3-way 50-100-150W incandescent bulbs.

The "color" of the light is very warm -not at all like the greenish-bluish tone one usually associates with fluorescent light. It does take a few seconds for the full intensity of the light to develop at the 29W (150W-equivalent) level, so keep that in mind. It comes on fairly dim, then develops the bright light you expect in about 15 seconds or so.

I'm currently in grad school (an older "non-traditional" student), and I do a LOT of reading. I'd been going through standard 3-way bulbs about one every 3 months or so, so I was looking for a more economical solution. The claim for "7 year life" is based on 4 hours per day of use. I know I use mine a lot more than that (more like 18 hrs or so), so I don't expect 7 years. But if they last more than about 24 months, they'll pay for themselves.

Also, my local discount hardware store charges $22.99 apiece for the exact same bulb, so Amazon's price is a good deal.

UPDATE: It's now March 19, 2010, and I'm still using the SAME 3-way CFLs I wrote about above. One of them is in my living room, where it's in use on the highest setting from around 9:00am until around midnight nearly every day; another one is in the bedroom where it's on from around 5:00pm until around midnight. That's right -these are the same bulbs I purchased in January 2008, and they're still going strong. They've MORE than paid for themselves. Maybe I lucked out or something (I've read some of the other reviews from folks who've had problems) -but I'm definitely planning to continue using these, and will be replacing ALL light bulbs in my home with CFLs as the incandescent ones burn out.

Ok, the short version is this lamp works great. The main concern is if it will *fit* in your lamp, so check the dimensions carefully.

The "color" of this lamp is great and most would never guess it's a fluorescent lamp under the shade. But it's using about 1/5 the energy. It's also brighter than most when first turned on (CFL bulbs take a minute or so to reach full brightness).

There are many reviews claiming this lamp flickers, or only worked as a 1-way lamp, or died an early death, etc. While GE might have some quality issues, a more likely cause is 3-way lamp sockets tend to get "fried" from the extreme heat of 3-way incandescent bulbs (which can go up to 150 watts). 3-way bulb sockets also have less area for the added contact needed for 3-way bulbs which makes them more prone to problems. And the high heat, over time, corrodes the contacts in the socket. All this means 3-way lamps are way more likely to have contact problems. This is the fault of the LAMP not the BULB.

CFL lamps, being electronic devices, don't like to be turned on and off hundreds of times a day which is what's happening if you have a bad socket in your lamp that's causing flickering. So yeah, if you have an old lamp, with "fried" contacts, and you screw *any* CFL lamp in, and it flickers, it will probably have a short life span.

So, while I don't know for sure, I suspect many, if not nearly all, of the people complaining about problems with this (and any other 3-way CFL) bulb, have a bad socket in their lamp. CFL lamps, in their early days, had some major reliability problems. But they've been out for a long time now, have long warranties, and the manufactures have generally figured out how to make them reliable to avoid lots of warranty returns.

So before you screw an expensive bulb into your 3-way lamp, you might want to unplug it and use a pencil eraser to clean the 2 contacts at the bottom of the lamp socket just to be safe (unless it's a brand new lamp). The contacts should be bright and shiny. If they're discolored, dark, etc. you may have a problem.

I purchased these bulbs (3 of them at almost $15 a pop) to do my part and replace old incandescent 3 ways. All three worked well upon arrival. It has now been a little over 2 months and not one of the three works correctly. One bulb works when it feels like it...which is rarelyand that actually is a good thing. It's a weird flickering mess. Then the other two only turn on on the second click, so basically it is the equivalent of a one way regular bulb. These were a waste of money for sure. Since throwing them away would be wasteful, I guess I grin and bear it for the next few years...that is, if they lst that long. Probably not..hopefully??

There are better bulbs out there for the money.

I am so thrilled that they came out with energy efficient 3-way light bulbs! These are terrific and I couldn't be happier. There is one word of caution. These bulbs are very large so be sure to measure the height between the socket and the finial. I have nine 3-way lamps for which I purchased the bulbs. The new bulbs fit perfectly into 5 of them. The simple solution for the other lamps was to visit a lamp supply store and purchase new harps for the other 4. (The new harps cost only $1.65 each.) The new bulbs are working very well, and I think you will enjoy them.

There are a lot of things that I do like about this Lighting Ever 11W super Bright Outdoor LED Flood light and one of them is the fact that once these are installed, they last for a long time. The typical flood lights that I've had, don't last near the purported 50,000 hours these do. Many of the LED bulbs do have long lifespans provided they are not damaged. One unexpected problem I ran into is that these are not plug-ins, but rather have to be installed. This one and one other Lighting Ever are now installed on a neighbor's barn.

The housing is good and solid, and they have weathered a few storms. The LEDs are certainly more efficient and pocketbook-friendly, but they do not emit the light that we're accustomed to from an incandescent bulb. They are much brighter and more focused, but don't throw light in a wider pattern. These are nice in that they can be adjusted to throw light in a higher or lower position, depending on what you may need.

However, these do not replace a standard 100W bulb, but rather a 50W bulb. Keep that in mind when considering purchasing. The simple formula is to divide the lumens by the number of watts. In this case we have 650 lumens and the wattage is 11. In essence we are looking at a 59 watt bulb, round that up to the standard 60. These Lighting Ever flood lights are holding up well, but I definitely needed two of them instead of just the one.

Biggest disappointment: These are not "equal to a 100 Watt halogen bulb." At 650 lumens, they have less than half the output of most 100-watt halogen bulbs.

Most impressive: The housings seem to be of very high quality. Cast aluminum, stainless steel (mostly -See Note 1), tempered glass.

Note: These are NOT plug-in units. The 2-foot cords are meant to be hard-wired to an electrical box (see Note 2).

Summary: These outdoor lights are an amazing deal if they fit your very specific needs. Be sure they meet your needs.

Note 2: Not Plug-in The fixture comes with about 23" of waterproof rubber cable attached. The 3 wire ends are soldered, for easy attachment to a power source inside your electrical box. A small 3x2 terminal block is included...much better than using wire nuts. If using indoors, you could probably attach a 3-prong replacement plug directly to the wire. I used a 1.2" deep plastic electrical box to attach a cord & plug. That was fairly quick and easy.

Note 3: Waterproof IP65 This is a NEMA classification that means it can handle "water jets" of a certain strength.

Note 4: 3-year warranty is stated on Amazon but not stated on the box or any enclosures. Details at company's web site do not include shipping locations or who pays.

Note 5: Color Rendering Index tells you how faithfully and evenly the bulb illuminates all different colors. Incandescent bulbs tend to have a CRI close to 100, the best possible score. According to a Wikipedia article, most fluorescent bulbs have a CRI between 50 and 90.

This my review after only one use(update below). I own and have used many headlamps.

The good:

VERY bright(think close to daylight)

VERY easy to focus from spot all the way to flood and back(even when riding a bike)

AA batteries(can easily be bought and found anywhere inexpensively, rechargeable available, multiple uses)

sturdy construction except for read bellow.

The bad:

I'm pretty sure this is made of ABS plastic which is brittle. So if you drop it the plastic parts may snap, crack, or shatter.

The bar mount feature broke when mounting it on my bike's handlebar. One of the two threaded straps snapped off while I was still trying to mount and adjust the thing so I doubt it would ever survive being mounted on anything moving or vibrating. Thankfully worm gear/screw hose claps that you can buy at your local hardware store may be able to take the place of the thin, weak, and brittle straps. Otherwise the bar mounting system is pretty well designed. They just needed to use rubber or stainless steal straps instead of the brittle ABS plastic.

Bulky and heavy but that's the only way to get that much light and run time(battery life)

Difficult to remove the "lamp" and battery pack from the headlamp strap which is good if you're worries are about them coming off, bad if you want to be able to switch modes easily.

If and when they update the bar mount straps to something more sturdy and flexible this will get 5 stars overall.

If you only plan on using it as a headlamp then it's easily a 5 star+.

In conclusion, I think it's easily one of the best headlamps you can buy and will recommend to others and buy again.

UPDATE(8/14/2012):

I've been using two of these for several months now. I keep one in the trunk of my car at all times.

If you're buying it to use just as a head lamp and don't mind the weight or bulk, go for it, it's the best out there. If you plan on using the bar mount, forget about it. Done.

I recently bought this light because my last LED lenser LED light finally broke after heavy use in a heavy industrial environment. This light is REDICULOUS! Its by far the brightest led headlamp I've seen. The ability to widen the beam to light larger areas is fantastic, and as a focused beam, shines at a great distances. I've been at the top of a 225ft tower and shined the light on the next job site over, HOLY COW. It is a *little* confusing with all the different light functions. I keep mine on constant current with the defensive strobe, nice and simple. It also lasts longer than my old 3-AAA headlamp.

Cons

HEAVY but you honestly get used to it quickly.

If used on a hardhat, be careful going up scaffold or barrel ladders. if you look up, the battery pack can get hung up on pipes or ladder cage and yank your hardhat off.

Confusing to programit has TOO MANY light programs

People will ask if you are are trying to land aircraft or if you are going spelunking. its a larger light.

If you want the best and brightest headlamp out there, buy it. For some it will probably be overkill, due to size, but it just depends what your are using it for. Just an awesome light.

After a long time using various "cheap" lights I have just this and WOW, massive amount of light, love it.

The light literally lives on my head when I am working on cars, even in the day.

The light head has a quality lens which you focus, it can throw a beam of light a massive distance but on the flood it produces a lovely even wide flood of white light.

I normally use the light on flood with lowest power setting but just a click of button (in my pocket) and its full power and its simple to just focus the beam for retina burning spot light.

It has a separate battery pack that uses 4 AA batteries which also has the switch.

The head strap is a three way so it runs over the top of your head which means you don't need the strap as tight so good for long duration us but it means you can bump the battery pack. However, it comes with an extension cable so the battery pack lives in my pocket, this reduces the weight on my head and it's easy to switch on/off and control power.

This my first true LED light. I had seen this Light on another sight since the manufacturer is now ownwed by Leatherman Tools Company. In terms of brightness this light clearly beats all of my other six volt headlights it is very compact so you save space in your back pack. This beam adjuster works well, i should say very well.

If have one draw back with this light is with the instructions it could have been a bit more clear and concise in terms of when you are changing the various light modes.

In terms of durability the light is very sturdy but time will tell, therefore i will give this haedlight four (4) stars , also i don't profess to be a light expert but this review is based on my interaction with the headlight thus far. Therefore i am keeping the option open to return an update my review.

Update 03/08/2013 Havin use this headlightfor almost a year and a half i have no other choice to give it five stars this is the best headlight i have ever used.
