GOOD: Very pretty light! Really enjoy it. Definitely changes shades beautifully and smoothly. It's good to know it's an efficient LED, and that it automatically turns on and off. Works great as a night light for baby when we go potty at night! I just whisper to him about the fish and try to name all the different shades that appear on the wall (is that indigo? or cyan? rose or magenta?) until he relaxes enough to let his pee out. This light helped him learn the word "FISH" :) It works nicely in small rooms like our bathroom.

BAD: The light in ours doesn't seem very strong although other reviewers seem to have a different experience. The overall height seems small, doesn't seem like 7" but I haven't measured. The design makes it hard to enjoy the fish scene if you use it in a low-height wall outlet. Best for small rooms like bathroom.

NOTE: The warning sticker says the fluid the fish are in is highly flammable/combustible.

Recieved this product in standard fasion with no problems. Plugged it in, and it operated correctly for up to 2 days. During the day, the nightlight turns off due to a photo sensor on the bottom of the unit.

The nighlight stopped working after only 2 days. It had not been abused, and there is no particular reason it should fail, other than it is a poor product.

Although this product has received many good reviews, there is a small number of reviews what reflect what I have experienced. It would be interesting to see if this product is still working for the other positive reviewers after a week or 2. At the very least, this "expensive" night light should last several years. Instead, it worked less than 48 hours (of which it actually only operated half that time at night)

It's also interesting to note that this product is indicated to be a General Electric product. But when I look on the nightlight, there is only the name "Yuan Chang Jao. If this is a general electric product it isn't the first time I've been disappointed at poor quality GE products. They may make good jet engines but their electronics are horrible (which is quite ironic considering their name).

If you like gambling, and perhaps wasting your $$, then this is the product for you.

UPDATE: Since I had nothing more than a paperweight, I decided to take the light apart to try to troubleshoot. After drilling out the weird screw (which incidently is a backward threading i.e. righty -loosy) access to the interior was gained. It was observed that the solder connection on one of the outlet prongs had broken. This appears easy to do since the outlet prong is not totally secured, but does move slightly. So in the process of plugging in, or taking out, you can move the prong slightly, thus breaking the solder joint. I grabbed my soldering iron, and put more solder on the connection. I closed the case back up, and installed a short wood screw, which actually worked well going back into the original screw hole. I plugged the light back in, covered the light sensor, and vola.... it turned on!

Lessons learned: 1) poor design 2) avoid too many "plug-ins".

This light casts a great array of vivid colors w/out being too bright. In fact, I don't think its glow is a bright as the typical "yellow" glow cast by most night lights. Too bad the fish don't move as the light changes color, but that's not a big deal. Overall, a very nice item. Will be good to use when traveling and staying in hotels where you need some type of light to guide you in a dark room in the middle of the night.

We bought two of these. One of them caught on fire. Seems like the sensor shorted out. Luckily we were in the room when it happened and not asleep at night. I'm not willing to risk keeping the other one. It's unfortunate since it was very pretty and convenient that it turns off and on with a darkness sensor.

I received my LED very fast, but it wasn't the right product. The description states it's a 30 watt RGB LED. I received a 10 watt RGB LED. I contacted the seller, and got back a reply that he would replace it. My replacement LED also came very fast with a tracking number. This time, it was the right item. As of right now, I cannot say how it works, because I haven't tested it. I am planning on creating a multi-color light replacement. I am happy with this product.

I wasn't sure what to expect--generally don't like CFL's. This light is on often and for long periods over our kitchen table so I decided to give it a try. I am very happy with the effect--bulb does take 30 seconds to brighten-up fully which takes a little getting used to, but the color is a nice "soft" white and plenty bright and consistent. There is no glare or hot spot because the CFL filament is inside the globe itself. So far happy--it should last a long time--considering it cost 3X an incandescent, it better.

Darn! I was really hoping that this bulb would replace the 75w GE Reveal Par30 bulbs in our kitchen which are getting harder and harder to find. Much to my surprise even though this bulb is rated as a Par30 it is just a few millimeters wider than the GEs and frustratingly just a millimeter or so too wide to fit in the glass cylinders of the hanging lights above our kitchen island.

As far as the light output it appears to be similar, but perhaps not quite as "white" nor as bright as the Reveal bulbs. The specs in the text on Amazon claims these lights put out 860 Lumens and claims the Reveals put out 980 Lumens. This seems to be about right based on my putting both bulbs in a light fixture that I could point at a white wall. I will also point out the beam spread is wider in the Cree LED than the Reveal halogen and therefore the Cree light appears more diffuse.

In conclusion I believe these lights would be an excellent replacement for a 65W flood lamp, but not quite up to replacing a true 75w halogen Par30 reflector. And of course if a Par30 Reveal bulb just barely fits the cylinder of your light can then be aware these are a wider and may not fit at all.

Great brightness and color. My wife noticed the lighting immediately, commenting on how much she liked the color and brightness before she found out I replaced the incandescent. I now have 4 of these. The only downside... the price. The cost savings are years away and may never be recouped, at least not while we are still living in the home. This is definitely an environmental versus financial decision.

The bulb on our vacuum had been dead for some time. Rather than track down a Sears and cough up some $5+, we decided to take a chance on this bulb. It fits perfectly and comes out at half the price even with shipping! For the curious, we are using it for Kenmore replacement bulb 20-5240.

Although the bulb fit, it burned out within a week of use. Might have been a bad bulb or might just not be designed for the vibrations of brush.

We used them at my friend's patio party and they created an amazing atmosphere. However they are pretty fragile and I managed to break one already. I used these hard to find bulbs to light paper lanterns for our outdoor wedding. When looking for bulbs I was concerned about having efficient lighting during our reception, while also being safe and affordable. These particular bulbs were recommended by the paper lantern manufacturer and worked perfectly. I only needed one box, however I ordered two due to the other reviews I read about broken and/or non working bulbs, plus they were very inexpensive in comparison to other bulbs I found in local hardware stores. We only used one box and found nothing wrong with any of the bulbs. Also, I was on a time constraint to have these in time for our wedding and they arrived exactly when promised. These bulbs along with the paper lanterns provided the perfect initmate lighting I desired for our outdoor reception.

I have ordered this product three times. The first two times I did not receive the green glazed sphere, but instead was sent beautiful blue ones. Which I loved. The last set I ordered actually came in the green. Which is also great as they are beautiful too. Just like STIs other products, nothing to put together. Push the 'on' button on the lid, install lid (took a couple of seconds to pick it up and put it on) and find a nice place in the garden for them. Beautifully made of glazed terracotta. Worth much more than what I paid on sale. Wish I had more yard space and could purchase more. I am so happy with STIs products. One of the solar ceramic bowls lit up for three nights. Tonight no light. The other never did work so I guess I need to replace the batteries. The one that did work for a short while puts out a very soft light, just enough so you know it's there. I would have rated this higher had the batteries worked.

I have owned my lamp for about 2 years now. I mainly use it to make jewelry. The lighting is very different than what you would get from a standard lamp. I love the way that I am able to see colors better. I am always surprised to see how something does or doesn't match after I see it in the true lighting. The neck of the lamp gives great flexibility and range of movement. The angles and the magnifying glass really help to see the fine details. My only complaint is that the light isn't quite bright enough for me. I would have preferred the higher wattage, but this one is acceptable. My only other wish is for some sort of cover for the magnefying glass. It can get dirty or scratched easily. I keep telling myself that I am going to sew one for it one day.

This light gives great "white" light, not a yellow light. This is great for identification of colors when working with beads, thread, etc. This is also a great reading lamp, the light is asssss good as sunlight. The magnification is helpful when reading small printed instructions and for close-up sewing. This is a floor lamp and there is no worry about having a table nearby for it to set on or be attached to. I think this is a fantastic, useful item for crafts and reading.

I came across Ott products a few years ago and was attracted by the claim by Ott that the light spectrum produced by the bulb is the closest to natural light and therefore more healthy (and producing less eye-strain) than more common incandescent or fluorescent bulbs.

I've since purchased Ott desk lamps and use them at my office and home, and I have Ott floor lamps in both places including by the bedside for reading at night. One of the floor lamps that I own is identical to this model except for color, and it does not include the magnifying glass arm.

In my experience over this period of several years I am convinced that the Ott bulbs do produce very natural lighting for comfortable reading and I am completely satisfied with them. I have also had no problems with any of my Ott products (2 desk lamps and 3 floor lamps), either with respect to the quality of the lamps or lifespan of the bulbs. (I therefore have no experience with Ott customer support because I have not had reason to make use of it).

(A comment regarding their customer support based upon my reading of other customer reviews here on Amazon. I have noticed that Ott customer support has individually responded via "comments" to many if not all of the negative customer reviews posted to their products here on Amazon, asking that the persons who have had a bad experience contact Ott so that their problems could be corrected. That is something that I have not noticed with other products and suggests to me that they are really paying attention to customer feedback and want to provide good customer support. Based on that I would expect problems to be handled by them in a very good way. It would be helpful if other Amazon customers who have initially had a bad experiences, but subsequently contacted Ott as the company has suggested, could provide an update to their reviews so that others can see how the issues were handled and hopefully resolved).

The only downside to these products as far as I am concerned is that the bulbs and lamps are made to fit each other and you therefore need to purchase replacement Ott bulbs, which of course are not cheap. I would not use them for every light in the house for that reason, but for those lamps that are primarily for reading, they are my preference.

I have found it difficult to quantitatively compare the Ott products to other lamps that make similar claims (Verilux being perhaps the main example). I have been unable to satisfy myself as to whether or not Ott is superior or even different from these others, and I do not have personal experience with any of the competitors to Ott. I do know that when I went to the Ott website to see what information was available on the light spectrum of the light produced by the bulbs, so that I could attempt to make a comparison of the light quality for the Ott bulbs vs their competitors, I could not find that information available from them (yes, I am an engineer). I also did not find such information on the Verilux website. If I am able to come across such a comparison, I will update this review to include it.

Very good lamps for reading use and I feel very comfortable in recommending them.

I ordered this light because I do a lot of counted cross stitch. I loved the light above and the adjustable magnifying glass and the way that you can bend the light to where you want it. The price was also good. It was fabulous for the first two weeks and then the light didn't shine as bright as when I first received it. I called the Ott-Lite company and she said to get a hold of Amazon and they should send you a new bulb and if that doesn't work, then they should replace the whole light. I called Amazon and told the lady what the Ott-Lite company said and whoever the lady was didn't quite get what I was saying. She told me that the were out of the bulb and light and if I would like to return the light. I said yes and she emailed me a RA for UPS to return the light. In the meantime, I called Ott-Lite and told them what Amazon said & did. The lady at Ott-Lite is working on sending me a new bulb. If that doesn't work I will be sending the whole light back. So far very disappointed with Amazon. Like to speak to someone that can understand what you are saying.
