I've recently acquired several of these frosted Switch 60 bulbs and have been trying them out in various locations throughout the house! The light output from the frosted lens bulb is not quite as stunning as that of the clear lens version; however the frosted lens helps diffuse the intensity of the individual LEDs while an increase in power keeps the lumen output in line with the clear version. The output is most definitely in the soft white warm light range, but not too brown which is my typical complaint with most incandescents and many other LED bulbs. At 4.4 inches in length, this bulb is just ever so slightly longer than the incandescent bulbs it replaces, but for the majority of applications, I don't believe this will be a problem. One of the more impressive aspects of this LED bulb is it's virtual "instant on" performance, even when starting at a dimmed setting. Other LED bulbs I've tried to date have had much difficulty achieving this feat, but not this one!

From the aesthetic appearance point of view, I've been playing around with both the clear and frosted versions of this bulb and I can definitely say that which one looks best definitely depends on the application. For the clear cyrstal light fixtures on my ceiling fan, the clear bulb looks best... it's just a little "alien egg thing" looking during the daytime when it's off! Fortunately, the ceiling fan is up pretty high, so you're generally not starring at it when it's off; however, when it's on you can't help but stop and gaze in awe at the awesome display the clear version puts on. So far, I've generally chosen the clear lens version of this bulb for applications in light fixtures with clear glass/crytal shades (both exposed bulb and totally enclosed); however, the frosted version just seems more appropriate to me in more opaque shade applications where the bulb is exposed to view. Though I haven't verified my suspicion yet, I'm thinking I'll be going with the clear bulb for totally enclosed opaque shades as well to optimize efficiency as the frosted bulb dissipates more power for the same lumen output as the clear. Again, the frosted lens seems best for exposed bulb applications where the frosting results in a bulb outline illumination when it's on and helps hide the alien nature of the internals when it's off.

By the way, the ability to use this bulb in totally enclosed light fixtures is one of the features that sets this bulb apart from others. Many other LED bulbs may only be used in limited orientations or in open/ventilated fixtures. Per the manufacturers instructions, this bulb is "Suitable for use with dimmers," "Suitable for damp locations," "Suitable for use in enclosed luminaires (fixtures)." The box states that this bulb "Operates in any direction and in any fixture: open, recessed, or enclosed."

As with most LED bulbs, this one is somewhat heavy and thus weight may be of concern for some more fragile light fixtures.

Other equivalent wattages (40, 75, and 100) should be along soon as well...

Actually, some of the others are already out and here are some product links:

SWITCH SWITCH60 12 Watt 2700K Warm White Clear LED Light Bulb 800 Lumen

SWITCH SWITCH75 20 Watt 2700K Warm White Frosted LED Light Bulb 1100 Lumen

SWITCH SWITCH75 18.5 Watt 2700K Warm White Clear LED Light Bulb 1100 Lumen

SWITCH SWITCH40 8 Watt 2700K Warm White Frosted LED Light Bulb 450 Lumen

FYI: The Switch 40 and 60 are both supposed to be around 4.4" in legth while the switch 75 and 100 are supposed to be around 4.9" in legth... so the higher output bulbs will increase the bulb size which may be a concern in some applications.

Now, if you happen to be in the market for a good non-dimmable vanity globe type LED bulb, the Tuwago LED Globe Bulb has got to be the one to beat. They're ever so slightly larger in diameter than the typical globe type bulb, but they're absolutely awesome. Here's the product link:

UPDATE 02 FEB 2013:

As I've noted before in one of my other reviews, one of my primary concerns with LED bulb adoption has been the inability of companies to provide a consistent product in both form and function over time. In an exposed bulb application, I'd at least like all my bulbs to look the same and at some time in the future when one of my LED bulbs fails, it would be nice to know that I'll still be able to get a replacement to match my original bulbs in which I'm heavily invested. Given the history of the LED bulb industry to date, I'm concerned that this is a long-shot bet given the rate at which products have been appearing and disappearing. In the case of Switch Lighting's bulbs, I'm hoping that they invested heavily enough in their initial design so as to need little physical design change down the road; however, only time will tell whether that's truly the case. Of course, I also have to hope that the company manages to make a sucessful go of this and stay in business... or, if not, at least sell the design off to another company who will continue with the design. Beyond formfactor though is the realm of functional performance which I believe will be a challenge for all LED bulb companies, including Switch.

One would like to hope that a company can produce a consistent product with consistent performance; however, there are many technical complexities such as maintaining consistent LED sources, component sources, and so on. Unfortunately, I think evidence of this concern can already be seen in inconsistencies I've already found with Switch Lighting's initial product offerings. Specifically, there already appears to be two different Switch60 bulb designs in circulation. In purchasing the Switch60 frosted bulbs whose packaging declares a 13.5W power consumption, I've discovered that some of the bulbs are actually marked as 14.5 Watt on top of the bulb itself... and these bulbs do seem to produce a slightly different light output color than those appropriately marked as 13.5W. And a quick comparison on one of Batteries Plus's power meters does show a watt or more difference in power consumption between the two Switch 60 frosted bulb designs. Additionally, in my experience, the 14.5W marked version of the Switch 60 produces a slighly more "brown" output than the approprately marked 13.5W version... which is how I discovered the existence of the two different design versions. In fact, you can see the 14.5W version of the bulb yourself by simply taking a close look at the bulb pictured on EarthLED's website... zoom in on that picture of the bulb-top labeling and you can clearly see that the pictured bulb is actually labeled as 14.5W instead of the advertised 13.5W... all of which leads me to question exactly which version you would receive if you were to order one. Again, you have to get the picture directly from EarthLED's site to see this as the picture posted here on Amazon is too low resolution to be able to make out the labeling. Same sort of thing is apparently going on with the clear bulb as well.

The Swith 60 clear bulb is advertised as 12W power consumption; however, as with the frosted bulb, there is also a version floating around with a higher 13W rating. I can't really comment on any output color difference between these bulbs as I've not really had them in close proximity; however, I can verify that both the 12W and 13W versions exist as I went back reviewing my prior purchases of clear bulbs for inconsistencies as well and guess what? My original purchase of four clear bulbs I used in one ceiling fan application are all labeled as 13W while three additional bulbs purchased later for another ceiling fan application are labeled as 12W. Though I no longer have the packaging for these bulbs, I'm pretty sure their packaging advertised a 12W power consumption, not 13W. I've also since seen the 13W clear bulbs in BatteriesPlus stores with packages that state 12W. Unfortunately, the store didn't have both bulbs available at the same time to allow me to perform a similar power consumption comparison, but I'm betting I would likely have seen an actual 1W or better difference as noted in the frosted version. Ironically, you can also see this 13W version of the clear Switch 60 bulb pictured on EarthLED's website which advertises them as 12W. Just zoom in on the clear bulb-top labeling currently pictured on their site as you will readily see the 13W labeling. Again, I believe the Amazon version of this picture is too low resolution to be able to do the same with it.

Is this really a big deal? Well, that's up to you to decide, but I personally feel the "inconsistent" product labeling and inconvenience of having to run around trying to get all my frosted bulbs to match so that they produce the same colors in same fixture applications is worth deducting one star from my original 5-star review... and it certainly doesn't ease my concerns over future product consistency... or over which product I'll actually receive when ordering any more for that matter...

Why spend so much on a light bulb? There are some major advantages to buying one of these lights that are detailed below.

Color Warmth: Compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs often cast a rather sickly glow. They can feel cold and uncomfortable. I work in an office where a number of my colleagues choose to sit in the dark rather than work under the standard CFL tubes. No doubt we've gotten used to this since CFL bulbs have become the norm over the past couple of years. When you turn on a Switch, you will be transported back to a time when light bulbs emitted a soft golden glow. The experience is actually nostalgic, believe it or not. What's more, the Switch improves greatly on other LED lights which can emit a very stark light and do so in only one direction. The Switch casts soft light in all directions and offers a bulb without compromise. This is what a bulb is supposed to look like!

Longevity: If someone was to install a Switch on the day his or her child was born, he or she wouldn't have to change the bulb until the kid had graduated from college (based on the predicted life span of 22.8 years printed on the back of the Switch box). This ia simply a game changer in the world of lighting. This is a light bulb that could last longer than your lamp. This is especially helpful if you have a light fixture that is a pain to gain access to like in a ceiling lamp.

Safety: If a CFL breaks, it's almost like having to deal with a haz mat spill. Just look up the recommended way for cleaning up a broken CFL online. Mercury is seriously toxic, and even if your CFL doesn't break, it still may end up in a landfill where the mercury could poison the ground water. A Switch, on the other hand, does not contain mercury. It uses food-grade silicone. If it breaks, there is no need for panic. Yes, you're out some money, but your health will not be at risk.

Low Operating Temperature: Some people think LEDs don't give off heat. In fact they do...quite a bit. Switch bulbs are the first UL-listed bulbs that are liquid cooled. This means you can put them into enclosed lighting fixtures without worrying about overheating. The silicone dissipates the heat so that they can stay cool. Try touching an incandescent bulb after it's been on for 30 seconds. Then touch the Switch. You'll know the difference immediately. Additionally, most LED bulbs have trouble working in very hot environments. The Switch can operate in temperatures up to 113 degrees Fahrenheit. This means you can install one outside and not worry about whether it will overheat (unless, maybe, you live in Death Valley).

No Warm-up Time: If you use CFL bulbs, you know that they start out pretty dim when you first turn them on. It may take up to a minute before they reach peak luminosity. In contrast, the Switch bulbs light up immediately. In fact, I've detected the bulb being a little brighter for the first half-second that the bulb is on. Then it returns to it's normal light level.

It Just Looks Cool: You might have seen a Switch and thought that it looks bulky and would seem out of place in your home. I thought that too, but honestly, the metal base pretty much disappears even in fixtures where the light bulb is clearly exposed like in inverted bathroom fixtures. Even if you could see it, it would still look cool. Reviewers have described it as having an art deco look, and I can definitely attest to the fact that it looks great when installed.

The Bottom Line: Yes, this is a lot to spend on a light bulb. Switch is slated to be releasing more cost-efficient light bulbs called Afinia bulbs later in the summer of 2013. Even so, I'm certain that you won't be disappointed in buying this bulb. I've already started to replace all the bulbs in my house. Not all of us can be early adopters of fantastic new inventions, but this is one situation where almost all of us can be. Plus, this light bulb will likely be the last one you ever buy.

Maybe these are technically 2700K and test to that in a lab, but in my house they seem to be noticeably cooler in color than say the phillips 2700k LEDs.

The idea behind these bulbs is great for enclosed areas. I hope they continue to improve the color.

I have worked with other LED light strips both at home and at work. Previously, I have paid 10X the price for warm white led light strips. These are VERY yellow for a warm white and appear significantly dimmer than 500lm/m based on other units I've worked with. For the price, I figured I could double up strips if they didn't deliver the intensity, but I will probably pair with a cool white to balance the color. Disappointed in the color more than the intensity, just be aware. Pricewise, I'm still ahead, so not complaining, just warning.

Stanley 95-155 3-in-1 Tripod LED Flashlight
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This flashlight is actually four products in one. There are three identical flashlights, each with two AA batteries, and a separate holder which combines the three into one flashlight. It is a bit like a transformer! The three flashlights slide into the center holder. The center piece has tripod legs that allow the 3-in-1 to stand upright, while the individual lights each have a tilt-able lens.

Thumbs Up:

LED technology is long lasting and energy efficient. The single LED on each individual light puts out a surprising amount of light.

When the three lights are put together, any of the on/off buttons on the individual lights controls all lights. The beam of the 3-in-1 is very bright.

The tripod legs of the 3-in-1 are actually held by a small magnet in the center holder; when you push the button, the metal leg parts disconnect from the center and the legs pop out. Actually, they don't all pop out; I invariably had to manually move one leg. But the concept is cool.

Each individual flashlight has a head that can swivel 90 degrees, which might be useful to someone using a tool belt.

The individual flashlights are bright enough to use at close range; I would say within 10 feet or so. The combined 3-in-1 is probably good to 20 feet or possibly further, though the combined beam is not as focused as a custom made large flashlight.

The tripod is a nifty idea, and this would make a nice workspace light in a dark area, where you could set the light down, angle one light towards the work area, and use the other two lights to illuminate the general area.

When working with the tripod, you can remove one light while the other two provide illumination of the work in progress.

Thumbs not-so-up:

Since the individual flashlights are self contained, and the center holder is a separate piece, the 3-in-1 flashlight is heavier and bulkier than a custom built large flashlight. It is a bit bigger around than a 3 X D cell flashlight, and about as heavy, but not as sturdy (see below).

The individual flashlights are molded to fit the center piece, not your hand. So while each individual one is light weight, they do not feel as comfortable as a custom made 2 X AA battery LED flashlight.

The three individual lights slide out of the center piece. This is the whole point of the flashlight, but the unit as a whole is not rock solid. Nor are the individual lights particularly sturdy by themselves. I would not recommend this as a light to carry around on patrol. I would say that this flashlight would best as a work light rather than a "carry around" light.

I realize that some compromises are inevitable in a device like this, but I was disappointed that it was not possible to turn off two of the task lights while the unit was on the tripod. This feature would have made for a lot longer lasting task light; one could have just used a new flashlight when the batteries went dim on the one in use. I think it might be possible to get this to happen if one put a bit of electrical tape on the metal contact of one or more of the lights, but I didn't try it. But it is worth a shot if you want it strictly as a task light and want only one light. Of course, you could remove the two lights not being used and get the same effect, though you would have to put those two lights somewhere and then remember where later!

Conclusion:

A good task light with great features. If you need a light to perform light maintenance around the house, this fits the bill quite nicely.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The major selling point of this flashlight is that it can break apart into 3 separate flashlights. I am comparing it to Stanley MaxLife 369 Tripod LED Flashlight #95-112S, which I own, although there is also Stanley MaxLife 369 6-LED Flashlight #95-369.

Pros:

1) breaks into 3 lights GREAT for CAMPING!, power outages, etc...

2) 3 lights independently can be turned ~120 deg so you can have 1 pointed at the ground and 1 pointed in front of you (also great for camping)

3) when snapped into tripod, only have to use 1 of the 3 power buttons to control all 3 flashlights

4) very bright (despite 1 of my 3 being defective spot in center)

5) tripod is very handy

6) very light

Cons:

1) Tripod is flimsy there are little springs holding the thin plastic legs on under regular or hard use, these do not appear durable in the least esp compared to the Stanley Max Life lights

2) cannot point all 3 lights in one direction so only get the power of 1 light pointed at your project when using the tripod (unless you want to work on the ceiling) again we have the 369, so this is a hard-to-give-up feature

3) Cannot turn off 1 or 2 lights without removing them from tripod when using lights at an angle (conceivably though 2 could point in the general direction, at an angle) so either you have the extra light on pointing wherever burning down the batteries or you have to take it out of the tripod to turn it off

4) Flashlights have a very small diameter (measure less than 1" across) when out of the tripod they feel very small in my little hands I could not imagine my husband would feel particularly comfortable if he had to carry only 1 around but this is really, really minor and may be a plus for camping if kids are carrying them

5) No low battery indicator? Appears this feature was also omitted, limiting its usefulness for emergency kits

Overall I am docking stars because the tripod is just disappointing the quality is not what I would expect from Stanley and seems a step-down compared to their previous Max Life products, which are very reasonably priced. Additionally, I find the angles the flashlights turn in a bit limiting. However, the brightness is really impressive and it only requires 6 batteries compared to the 9 (can use 3,6, or 9) in the Max Life. Most of my applications are garage or craft table related, so I need the angle. I don't want to have 2 flashlights on and pointing at the ceiling, so not being able to independently turn them off is a slight inconvenience. If your application is more like camping with light use I would highly recommend this. Heavy use again I just wouldn't expect much longevity from the tripod. I would not recommend this for garage jobs for the same reason.

Update 12/2009: After over a year, just want to say it is still working with light use (since I was worried about the longevity), and I'm still frustrated with the viewing angles. :-)

Best Deals for Stanley 95-155 3-in-1 Tripod LED Flashlight

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This essentially crosses 3 flashlights together in a nice stand, which turns it into a work lamp. All three flashlights are very bright, and when combined and pointing in the same direction, are very very bright. When in the tripod base, any one of the on/off switches will control all three flashlights.

Few comments about this.

-Initial impression coming out of the package is that it felt pretty light and "plasticky". However after putting 6(!) AA batteries in it (2 in each flashlight) it feels very stable on the tripod (which has nice rubber protectors to prevent scratching)

The lights themselves have a yellow tinge around the outside of the beam, with a purplish inside.

One of the lights is flickering, but I think that's because the batteries I have in it are nearly run down (also using NiMH which may be the cause of the above yellow fringing).

Overall it's a nice lamp, you can even set it on the ground and point each light downward and it forms a nice area light (although not as good as a lantern style light would)

Update: The tripod aspect of it, is supposed to be released by a button on the bottom of the flashlight (that's awkward to get to), but it doesn't work very well, and the legs seem to easily release on their own. It feels like the clasps may eventually break, and then I won't be able to compact it down. Even though it probably won't be that big of a deal, because of it's size you probably would never use all three combined as one flashlight anyways, it's much better suited to a work lamp.

Honest reviews on Stanley 95-155 3-in-1 Tripod LED Flashlight

I purchased three Stanley® 3-in-1 Tripod LED Flashlights last Christmas to give as gifts to my daughter, son, and husband. One arrived broken and was replaced. Now, of the 3 only 1 is still working. One of them has only 1 light working. A second one has one light working, one flashing, and one not working at all. These flash lights have hardly been used. I am very disappointed in the quality of this product. I would not recommend this product.

My husband drives a crude oil tanker & finds himself in virtually utter darkness a lot. He adores this 3 in 1 light, as he can point one light at his tanker, another at the tank & another at his fittings, etc.

He's said it's been a lifesaver on many occasions & the fact that the tripod is sturdy is another benefit when he has to set it on gravel or dirt work areas.

He has poor eyesight, so if he says it's plenty bright, it is. He's quite the flashlight 'junkie' and this is by far his favorite.

This light in combination with the 5 led clipon for his cap make working at night much safer for him.

Kudos to Stanley!

Followup July 17 2009

The flashlight is still going strong after months of 6-day-a-week heavy use. Hubby works at least 3 to 4 hours daily in darkness, so the fact that this flashlight hasn't fallen apart is a biggie!

This flashlight has lasted longer than my marriage did. He's still using it and it hasn't failed once.

I have a "Solar Storm" LED light which I love. Except that when you shut off the main lights, the 3 Led lights that tell how full a charge the battery is, does NOT shut off. Now admittedly they are led's and does not use Migh energy but it still causes the battery to discharge. This switch is a PERFECT fix. Fits between the coupler from the battery charge port and the light itself. Works FANTASTIC. Now I can kill all power from the battery when not in use but can switch it back on even while riding.

I highly recommend this on/off LED switch!

Because there are frequent power failures where I live, I have emergency lights in both my restrooms (there's nothing more terrifying than trying to get out the bath tub in total darkness). I bought two of these LED emergency lights to replace the two older ones that had gone bad. These are brighter than the previous incandescent fixtures and they run for over two hours on a single charge; they use a little battery pack similar to those used in cordless phones and are much lighter than the old sealed lead-acid batteries. Highly recommended!!

This product is housed in cheap looking plastic and is only suitable in areas where it will not often be seen (basements, storage rooms, etc.) unless appearance is not a concern. The produce does not plug in. It just comes with wires hanging out that require some electrical knowledge and effort to install. Also, returning the produce is difficult given the barriers created by the vendor. There is a 15% restocking fee; you need to return it parcel post insured or UPS, which they do not pay; you have to fill out a disclaimer form and send it back into them. So by the time a credit is issued, if it is issued, you have lost 1/2 the value of the product. I'm just going to chuck this item in the trash and look for better products.

Noting various markings on the sockets, these appear to be manufactured by a company named "Yue Yang", with a model number of "Y-102". Sockets do not bear a UL listing mark, but do have a CE mark and VDE Institut mark.

Ahhhh!!!!...can anyone clearly describe light to someone else? I'll try starting with describing the bulbs.

The good:

-Bulbs came packaged very well, no breakage, no duds.

-The bulbs themselves are good looking both turned on and off. (They look better in person than the picture)

-The outside fins are metal with a nice smooth finish.

-Dimming is very functional from full on to very dim, even with my old fashioned push button dial dimmer switch.

-Very bright, good light spread, similar to the halogens I replaced.

-I am using them in a celing fixture that the bulbs are fully exposed. When they are turned on, some light comes through the metal fins and makes a nice pattern (not too much) on the ceiling.

-Low wattage and much cooler than the halogens I replaced.

-Price $7.45 ea. is a steal if they last awhile. (will update review if any of them burn out)

The could be better:

-They are described as 'warm white'...um...not compared to halogens. I would say similar to flourescent light.

-Slight buzzing sound (like flourescent lights) at all brightnesses, very faint, but definitely audible.

Overall I like the bulbs and would recommend them to others, with the disclaimer that they are a 'neutral white' color. Not really 'warm' but not 'cool blue' either.

I hesitated to purchase any LED bulb because I've used LED lights in the past and always felt the light from an LED did not disperse very well resulting in little ambient light outside of the focus area. However, my office in my new house was set up with 12 track lights using 50w halogens and I wasn't interested in sitting under 600w of heat, so I took a shot by starting with 4 of these bulbs.

I could not be happier that I did so. They put off as much light, if not more, as I'd expect from the "35w Equivalent", and the lack of heat is exactly what I was looking for. The light they produce is more like what you get from a bright white or even a daylight bulb, so if you're looking for soft white this may not be for you. However I actually prefer it to the light I got from the original halogen bulbs. The dimming on the lights works very well too. They don't seem to dim quite as far as the halogens did, but they dim far enough for my taste and my dimmer does not go all the way to 0% power so that may be a factor. Overall I highly recommend these bulbs.

I just bought one bulb to test. I'm using it in the kitchen fan hood which requires 4 bulbs.

Pros:

Beautifully built. Looks good on and off. Build quality seems excellent

This LED bulb is noticabley brighter than my original 35W halogens.

Fit is perfectly matched to my old halogen bulbs. The width and height are the same.

Runs cool. I have it on for several minutes and its still cool to the touch. The halogens are hot. The bulb must be efficent.

Cons:

I bought the warm bulbs but they leave a green hue on my white wall whereas the original halogen leaves a red hue. This isnt really a con, but may have to change the other three bulbs to be consistent. The color is not as warm as the halogens but not cold.

I have bi-level switch on my light fixture (bright and dim). On bright, the lamps work great. However on the Dim setting, the lamps strobes. It is very noticeable and probably unbearable. The strobing doesnt stop until I turn the switch to high or off. It isnt a warming up issue. This is why I didnt rate this product 5 stars and probably wont buy another set right now. Did I get a defective bulb or is anyone else having this problem? Other reviews have said that the bulbs dim nicely. That is not my case.

Honest reviews on Lighting EVER Dimmable 4W GU10 LED Bulbs, 35W Equivalent, Recessed

I have gradually been replacing the halogen bulbs in my house with these. So far I have installed five three in a mini track light from Ikea, two in a high-end ceiling fan. No duds in the lot. The light is definitely more of a bright white or daylight than a warm white. My wife likes it better than the original halogens. We have mottled off-white/light tan floor tiles. The LEDs make them look more white than brown compared to the halogens. The LEDs are exactly the same size as the halogens. The ceiling fan has fairly tight fixtures, and the LEDs fit without any problem.

The Good:

Same size as Halogen bulbs they replaced (very important if the light cover is designed to fit halogen bulbs)

Very bright I had them side by side 50w halogen and they are as bright or brighter than 50w halogen

Cool My halogen bulbs gave off so much heat that you could feel it from 5' away

Going on 9 mos and they are still working the halogen bulbs in my kitchen started dying after 3 mos

Lower price point than other LED's

The Ok

They look a little industrial consideration if you are installing them where they will be exposed in a traditional room

The color is closer to 6500k not 3500k

I haven't heard them buzz

Summary:

I did (too much) research to learn about what bulbs would be the best replacement for my 50w warm white halogen bulbs. These were the best in my opinion based on the physical size of the bulb, the brightness, and the cost. I have (and will) purchase more in the future.

There are a lot of things that I do like about this Lighting Ever 11W super Bright Outdoor LED Flood light and one of them is the fact that once these are installed, they last for a long time. The typical flood lights that I've had, don't last near the purported 50,000 hours these do. Many of the LED bulbs do have long lifespans provided they are not damaged. One unexpected problem I ran into is that these are not plug-ins, but rather have to be installed. This one and one other Lighting Ever are now installed on a neighbor's barn.

The housing is good and solid, and they have weathered a few storms. The LEDs are certainly more efficient and pocketbook-friendly, but they do not emit the light that we're accustomed to from an incandescent bulb. They are much brighter and more focused, but don't throw light in a wider pattern. These are nice in that they can be adjusted to throw light in a higher or lower position, depending on what you may need.

However, these do not replace a standard 100W bulb, but rather a 50W bulb. Keep that in mind when considering purchasing. The simple formula is to divide the lumens by the number of watts. In this case we have 650 lumens and the wattage is 11. In essence we are looking at a 59 watt bulb, round that up to the standard 60. These Lighting Ever flood lights are holding up well, but I definitely needed two of them instead of just the one.

Biggest disappointment: These are not "equal to a 100 Watt halogen bulb." At 650 lumens, they have less than half the output of most 100-watt halogen bulbs.

Most impressive: The housings seem to be of very high quality. Cast aluminum, stainless steel (mostly -See Note 1), tempered glass.

Note: These are NOT plug-in units. The 2-foot cords are meant to be hard-wired to an electrical box (see Note 2).

Summary: These outdoor lights are an amazing deal if they fit your very specific needs. Be sure they meet your needs.

PROs:

* Industrial quality housings made from mostly rustproof materials (see Note 1)

* Nice price (at $20)

Very waterproof (IP65 See Note 3)

Compact

Look and feel like quality

50,000 hour average life (claimed)

OKs:

* It's NOT a plug-in unit (see Note 2)

LED module is not replaceable. You replace the whole fixture after 50,000 hours.

They get warm after 15 or 20 minutes, but not hot. (Uncomfortable to hold for longer than 10 seconds.)

CRI of 75. Light is a bit less natural than LED lights with 80+ CRI (see Note 5).

The 11-watt claim is accurate. After warm-up, it goes to about 10.5 watts.

3 year warranty (see Note 4)

CONs:

* 650 lumen output is equivalent to 50 watt Halogen, not 100 watt as stated.

* Clear glass...No diffuser. Facing the light fixture from anywhere within it's 135 degree focus is very unpleasant. It's fine if you can mount it in a way that avoids this.

Clear glass...No diffuser. It casts sharp, well defined shadows. It's a stark look, unless there are no objects to create shadows...lighting up the side of a building, for example.

Alternatives -

I found no ideal alternatives. There are some LED reflector bulbs with over 1000 lumens that are rated for "damp locations."

Feit Electric Conserv-Energy Dimmable BR40 LED 17 Watt Flood Light Bulb

EcoSmart 24-Watt Bright White LED Flood Light Bulb (around $38 at Home Depot)

Disclosure -

The manufacturer gave me this product for review. I believe my review is impartial.

Notes -

Note 1: Rust issues Most of the parts are rust-proof, but the lock washers and U-bracket are magnetic...those will probably rust over time if used outdoors.

Note 2: Not Plug-in The fixture comes with about 23" of waterproof rubber cable attached. The 3 wire ends are soldered, for easy attachment to a power source inside your electrical box. A small 3x2 terminal block is included...much better than using wire nuts. If using indoors, you could probably attach a 3-prong replacement plug directly to the wire. I used a 1.2" deep plastic electrical box to attach a cord & plug. That was fairly quick and easy.

Note 3: Waterproof IP65 This is a NEMA classification that means it can handle "water jets" of a certain strength.

Note 4: 3-year warranty is stated on Amazon but not stated on the box or any enclosures. Details at company's web site do not include shipping locations or who pays.

Note 5: Color Rendering Index tells you how faithfully and evenly the bulb illuminates all different colors. Incandescent bulbs tend to have a CRI close to 100, the best possible score. According to a Wikipedia article, most fluorescent bulbs have a CRI between 50 and 90.

I had reconstructive surgery on my left ankle in November of 2007. I was on crutches for three months. I knew that I would not be able to carry anything while I was on crutches. This little head lamp saved the day, or night. When I needed to get up in the night for what ever reason all I had to do was put on the head lamp, turn it on and I had just the right amount of light! I could see great and I did not have to wake up my wife with too much light. The LED is very clear and bright, and the batteries have lasted a long time. There is no battery back to have to mess with. The batteries insert right behind the light, so they are easy to change.

This little light works great when you need a light source for short distances. Only draw back is that the light does not have a very far throw. But again for short distances, or for a concentrated light right in front of you, you cannot go wrong with this light.

This lamp is very small and light, but a bit dim. It also uses more expensive "button batteries". If being super light is important to you, this may be a good choice.

My son took this camping and informed me that it was great for reading in the tent, the little light can be angled on the head strap to point in different directions. He also informed me that it was NOT ENOUGH LIGHT for walking in the woods in the dark, one LED is apparently not bright enough to illuminate a far enough distance and he informed me he wants a brighter flashlight next time.

It's good, came quick. It does what you would think. Price was so-so. But then when I got it and was able to read the fine print: the battery life is not very good. Live and learn.

Got this light so I could read in bed at night without disturbing my husband with my bedside lamp. It works perfect!

I ordered mine from China before I knew it was called a Hug Light talk about the perfect name. I was going to use this as an artsy spotlight for a collector's piece. But I think I'll use it for its actual purpose instead. I'm always tinkering with something that needs a little extra lighting, and fumbling with a flashlight gets old.

This will certainly come in handy. Very convenient to bend it around things, like your neck, wrist, door knobs whatever and point it toward whatever needs some extra illumination. Even works over your ears like comfy headlights. Neat!

It takes 2 AA batteries. The 2 multi-switch buttons cycle each pair of lights through 4 different settings. Honestly, full blast is all I'll ever be using; the other lighting options just aren't functional for my purposes.

Nice light. Good versatility. Seems durable. Plenty bright for 4 LEDs. Not too expensive. It's a Hug Light what's not to love!?!? Happy! ;oD

Love the flexible hug light for reading in bed at night, it bends is so many directions to get just the right angle and it does not bother my husband sleeping, and there are 3 settings for brightness. I also use it to get up and go to the bathroom without turning on the lights. Love it.

Honest reviews on BestDealUSA Flexible Led Flashlight Hands-Free Reading Book Light

I was not sure that this light was what I was looking for but after using it I would not be able to get along without it. It gives great light and shines right on what you are doing. Does not bother my neck and actually I forget that I have it on. Plan on buying several more as gifts.

I choose this to wear around my neck while sewing. Light is not that bright. After struggling to get battery door off. It broke while trying to put it back on. I would not recommend this product.

Excellent lighting but a little too heavy to cart around. Of course I might be prejudiced as my son has a big part in the development of LED bulbs at Cree!
