Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This switch will allow your lights to turn on when a person's movement is sensed, or alternatively, turn it off when there's daylight. Its settings allow you to have the light stay on for 1,5,15, or 30 minutes after it no longer senses movement. It also has two levels of sensitivity and a test mode.

Unlike many earlier sensor switches on the market, this one works with fluorescent, incandescent and LED lights. Although it requires a ground wire, which typical standard switches may not have, it doesn't need a neutral (white) wire, unlike many sensor switches.

I placed this switch in a bathroom, where I needed one for two reasons. The light was frequently left on by mistake, and the room has fluorescent bulbs. Bulbs with CFLs inside do not favor well with short cycles, and are better off left on for a number of minutes than being switched off after a minute of being on.

One concern with a bathroom switch is the level of sensitivity. I put the switch in test mode (15 seconds) and went behind a shower curtain. The light stayed on. Likewise, it stayed on while sitting on the room's seat. I haven't had any false responses, even when turning the ceiling fan on, although it's possible for air currents to trigger the sensor.

UPDATE: I bought a second one for another room that gets light through windows during the day. The switch senses when a person is in the room and if it's dark enough, the light goes on. This is a much bigger room and I was concerned it might be a problem if the light went off with a person in it, but it seems to be working well. Another feature is that within five seconds of entering the room, you can turn it on or off, and it will learn from that. If you turn it on because it's already dark enough, it will learn to turn on earlier in the future. And if you turned it off, it would have recognized that there was enough ambient light that it should not have needed to still be on. Over time, it adjusts.

Setting the time interval is simply a matter of holding in the button until it blinks the appropriate number of times indicated in the instructions. Other (less common) settings involve a small button that's normally hidden by the switch plate. That makes setting a simple task, and the defaults (5 minutes and movement sensor mode) might be sufficient.

This uses a standard Decora switch plate, so depending on your current plate, you may or may not have to buy one. They are under a dollar at many hardware stores. I had a twin Decora plate from a previous sensor switch, but in one location I changed from a standard toggle switch and used a Leviton 2-Gang 1-Toggle 1-Decora Combination Wallplate.

Overall, this works better and is more versatile than a number of sensor switches I've used in the past. It also has a lower sensitivity setting that I haven't tested, but if this causes lights to go on too easily, that's an available option.

UPDATE: After using this switch for several months, I continue to be impressed by it, and it's the hands down winner compared to other brands I have tried. I have already bought an additional one and may buy more.

UPDATE 9/2012: This switch allows you to set the amount of time after sensing no activity before the lights turn off. My wife decided that five minutes was too long for the bathroom and had me set it to a minute. I found that if I sit perfectly still, the light will go out. A simple turn of the head or wave of a hand will switch it back on. With a five minute setting, any movement within the past five minutes will have been enough to keep things on. So if you use one in a room where you sit very still such as while working at a desk with your back to the switch and a high chair back, a short setting could leave you in the dark until you wave your arm around. Ultimately it means that it senses small movements well, but in situations where small movements might not happen for a while you will do better with a longer period before it times out. So it's not just a matter of how long you want it to stay on after you leave the room, but a matter of how much you move around in short periods of time.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I ordered this to use in a hallway, but due to the design I ended up using it in our laundry area. I find it to be simple to install, provided you have a newer house, and excellent in operation.

Design wise, it has a small sensor below a large push button switch. This switch is used to program it if desired, or to manually turn it on and off. In general I doubt the switch will be used much except for programming the device. The instructions say NOT to use this device to control a wall outlet. So it is for lights only.

Pro:

Works great once installed. When you (or a pet, etc) gets anywhere within 180 degrees, if snaps on, and stays on for 5 minutes (with adjustable off time). There are warnings that heat and moving air will activate the switch, so I expect it to be on while the dryer is running, but that is no problem for me.

It can be programmed to change the motion sensitivity, for vacancy mode (no auto on), and for how long the light stays on once it is activated (1, 5, 15, or 30 minutes).

The switch turns it on or off, so one is not dependent on the time-out.

It works fine with florescent lights.

Con:

In order to program vacation mode and the sensitivity, one has to remove the faceplate over the light switch because there is a small second switch that has to be depressed. Since I had problems installing a face plate (see below), I'm not likely to be using this feature. Programming the off delay can be easily done with the main switch.

It comes without a faceplate, so I bought one (it is a dual switch area). It was extremely hard to screw in. I think there is a problem with the thread size. But maybe I'm just clumsy! I did not deduct a star for this.

Summary: Highly recommended.

UPDATE: 30 Apr 12. A reader has updated me on the meaning of "grounding" vs. having a neutral line. This box does not require a neutral wire which is a good thing because my house has only the white, black, and green wires. I updated the review to 5 stars (it really is that good), and removed the paragraph that expressed my puzzlement with the instructions.

First the Pros-

A great motion activated wall switch that certainly works with energy efficient CFLs, and incandescent/filament bulbs all mixed together or not.

Motion PIR is very accurate in detection and maintains good detection at a distance. i.e. Other PIRs always turn off when standing at the sink washing or when my hands were dripping water that I would not be able to wave effectively to reactivate the light.

I haven't had any problem with the Lutron.

It has many useful features too, and I find the vacancy sensor probably more useful than the occupancy mode.

Cons-

Kind of a buzz kill but where are houses built with a ground going to a wall switch plate box. I checked both my houses, Turns out it's not required or that important. Don't get confused with electrical outlets, which will always have a ground wire.

It won't work without a ground, so plan ahead. How far are you going to go to get a ground wire to that junction switch box?

And the second issue is related to why it needs a ground.

It activates a relay to turn the lights on.

No wonder it handles a variety of mixed bulbs.

I much prefer the electronic way of handling Florescent and CFLs. I realize its less rugged and can burn out easier, but at least it's silent.

So before you buy, consider that you will with hear a relay click every time you enter a room.

If you're curious about dimming ability, since the switch looks like a dimmer rocker, the above should answer your question.,

Other than that a great switch for $15.00

Honest reviews on Lutron MS-OPS2-WH Maestro 250 Watt Single Pole Occupancy Sensor

Bought this item as Lowe's for $19.99, quick and easy to install as there are two black wires, one green and a ground. The green and ground are wired to your ground wire in your wall box, so you do not need a neutral wire to install. Place in hallway that get's a lot of traffic and after noticing how easy it is to install I think I will be picking up a few more. Does not work with a three way switch though and can only handle 250 watts, so make sure you do not have too many lights going to the switch.

Features:

* Operates in one of three modes: occupancy (turns on and off automatically via motion sensor), vacancy (turns off automatically via motion sensor), and auto-on and off (via light sensor).

* Works with CFL, LED, incandescent, and halogen lights.

* Time-outs can be set be set to 1, 5, 15, or 30 minutes (as well as a "test" mode that is about 15 seconds).

* Inexpensive

* Easy to install

* Light can always be turned on and off via the front switch

* Comes with wire nuts and screws to attach to break-out box (but no faceplate).

A few (small) cons:

* Distinctly audible click when the sensor detects motion and the light turns on.

* If you connect the two black wires in the wrong order, the switch will not work (but, simply switch the connections and everything will work)

* With the face-plate attached you can change the time-out setting but you cannot change the operational mode (occupancy vs. vacancy vs. light-sensor) or the motion sensitivity.

I got tired of yelling at my kids to turn out the bathroom lights, so I bought a couple of these switches. Note that I have installed two of these but have operated them only in occupancy mode. To my ear, the turn-on click is not very loud, but someone not used to it might be (slightly) startled.

In summary, I am quite pleased with these switches and will probably buy more.

I purchased this item because I am deployed and needed a light to turn on, in my room, when I got up to go to the bathroom. I picked this light because it was cute and different. Immediately out the box it did not work, I switched the batteries, twice, and it still did not work. I took it to work and let someone look at the electrical wiring inside the light and it was determined that everything was connected properly; it was either a bad chip board or just a dud light altogether.

It would be a waste of time, money, and effort returning it as I have already wasted two days trying to fix it. I seems that it would be a pretty good light, I am just disappointed that I wasted my money. It would be good, if the company selling the item would test it before it shipped to see if the item actually worked instead of sending bad items. Now I have to find something else and wait another 10 days or so for it to get to Iraq.

The light keeps flickering for some reason even with different batteries. The cup is cheaply made and looks very flimsy. Usability-wise, mounting the battery isn't as easy as 1-2-3... you need to use a tiny Phillips screw driver, put in 3 AAA batteries, and then nudge your way to put it in place, and finally screw it back. Overall, very disappointed with the constant flickering and the low quality. I would definitely not recommend it.

Thanks to the other reviews I knew this was going to be brighter than a standard night light....but that is exactly what I needed. The frosted plastic "milk" gives a nice glow to the room and looks neat! Perfect.

Honest reviews on HDE Milk Glass Cup LED Night Light Lamp

We bought one of these to see how it would look on our outdoor screened patio. It had a nice light for about 5 minutes. This thing stopped working and flickering immediately. I feel this company is just stealing people's money with this item. Beware buying this. Even though it is only 5 bucks or so, it is a waste of one's money.

This item is not what is described in the product description. This is the multi color changing glass. I am not going to spend the shipping fess to return it because it is an xmas gift and I am not going to deal with going out to find another present. So pretty much this is not the item that is advertised and I wouldn't have baught it if I had known. If you are into the color changing then it would be cool but I just wanted the simple one and now I am stuck with the one I didn't want!

Quick Review:

If you're converting your 3-way light switches to z-wave controlled ones but want to use fluorescent bulbs, this is the answer. Installation is easy enough once you understand how the switches and light fixtures are wired together. Get them for around $50 here on Amazon.

Full Review:

I decided to start switching over my home to use z-wave for home automation and needed to find light switches to use around my house. After reading some of the reviews for the 3-way dimmer version of this switch, I opted to go for these to convert my home. I already have fluorescent light bulbs for almost every light fixture and being able to dim most of the lights was not a priority for me.

This product is just a GE 45609 Z-Wave Wireless Lighting Control On/Off Switch packaged with an auxiliary switch (GE 45610) so that you can have it control a 3-way (or 4-way, you'll need another aux switch) circuit. It's meant to replace and EXISTING 3-way circuit without any new wiring required. I used these instead of the GE 45613 Z-Wave Technology 3-Way Dimmer Switch Kit due to the fact almost every single light in my house is florescent.

To wire the primary switch, you need to have ground, neutral, line (hot), load (to the light), and a travel wire leading to the other switchbox where the aux switch will be located. The aux switch only needs a ground, neutral, and the travel wire that leads back to the primary switch. Now you should be able to check your wiring and verify you have all the needed wires before tearing everything apart. For me, all the neutral wires were bound together, capped off, and shoved to the back of the box.

I have installed a total of 3 of these sets now. The first one I installed was one I had ordered from Amazon's warehouse which had been opened and returned (I'm cheap, I'll save $5-10 every chance I get). I spent the better part of 2 days trying to figure out why I couldn't get it working. Finally the idea dawned on me to see if the primary switch worked properly on it's own. Nope, it was DOA, so back to Amazon it went (No that's not the reason I took away a star). Next up, a brand new one. So the brand new one went in as did the aux switch and worked perfectly. Total installation time for the first switch? About 9 hours of me wanting to break things because the first (used) switch was broken and about 30min to install the second (new) switch along with the aux switch. The next 2 sets of 3-way's I installed only took about 15-20min each now that I had the wiring down. I'm not a professional electrician but I'm sure if I kept at this, I could have them installed in about 10min.

I think the directions could be expanded to include a few other ways a 3-way circuit can be wired as they only have a diagram showing one of the ways it could be wired. Lack of proper documentation for products is a major annoyance to me and the reason I docked a star. Seriously, pay someone for the extra 2 hours it would take to be thorough for your documentation.

Another thing I feel need to mention because I've seen it in other reviews on here is the distance limitation between the switches. One of my switches is about 18 feet apart straight-line distance across the room. This doesn't account for the extra 4' on either end to get up the wall to the ceiling or the fact I have a vaulted ceiling it has to cross. The shortest my wiring can possibly be is ~30'and my aux switch has no issue turning the light on and off.

Quick hints:

-Wire in the primary after removing both switches from the old 3-ways and make sure it will turn on and off the light. Then you can move on and install the aux switch.

-Mark the wires as you take them off the switch!

-Check and double-check you're hooking up the correct wire to the correct spot on the switch. You'll feel stupid having to undo it all when you mix up the line and load wires.

-If you have 2 or more of these installed next to one another, you'll need to break off the tabs on the side so they can fit close enough together to put the decorative plate over them. Only break off the ones you need to get them to fit.

-For doubleand triple-gang installations, I just daisy-chained the neutral (same with the hot/line) because it was just easier than pulling out the whole bundle for me. (No idea if this follows local wiring code but it's working just fine.)

Other Thoughts;

The blue LED isn't extremely bright and doesn't bother me. By default, it is ON when the switch if OFF and OFF when the switch is ON. It can help someone unfamiliar with the light switch location to find it in the dark. If you have an advanced remote, you can switch it so the LED is ON when the switch is ON. You can also install the switch upside-down and flip it to the correct way using an advanced remote. I haven't tested either of these because the default is what I needed.

I have paired these switches to a couple different types of remotes and it has worked fine with all of them, A Go Control panel, one of the basic GE remotes, and a Intermatic HA-07 remote. Hurray for interoperability!

You can hear the relay in the switch click when your turn it on and off. Not really a big deal because my old switches clicked when I flipped them on and off. I think you might notice it a lot more if you use the remote to turn the lights on and off. I've gotten used to it and barely even notice it anymore.

These take up a lot more space in the electrical boxes but I didn't have any issues with not being able to get them to fit properly.

I recently installed two sets of these switches to control my outside flood lights. For the most part, installation was fairly easy, and they've worked perfectly so far. The key to having a successful installation is understanding how a traditional 3-way switch system is wired, and how these Z-Wave switches differ from those of a traditional installation. Once you understand the difference (which took me a while), installation becomes pretty straightforward.

My only complaint is that these switches are much deeper than traditional switches, and thus they leave very little room behind them for wires. The most frustrating part of installation for me was trying to cram wires in the back of the electrical box so that the switches would fit. I'm sure the size of these switches is necessary for the Z-Wave functionality, but it made for a very unpleasant portion of the installation. I'm fairly new to electrical work, so I wasn't about to swap out the electrical box for a roomier one.

I'd like to share what I've learned about 3-way switches in general and these switches in particular in order to help others who may be fairly new to doing their own electrical work:

A traditional 3-way switch has three terminals: one common, and two travelers. In a typical configuration, depending on where the switch is situated in the circuit, the common wire is either bringing power from your service panel ("line") or continuing on to the light fixture ("load"). The two 3-way switches are connected together by the two traveler wires. When both switches are connecting their respective common wires to the same traveler wire, the circuit is completed, and the light goes on. If each switch is connecting its common wire to a different traveler wire, then the circuit is interrupted and the light is off.

In a traditional 3-way switch system, both switches are identical, interchangeable, and equal partners in the work that they do. This is not the case with these Z-Wave switches. This set consists of a GE 45609 Z-Wave Wireless Lighting Control On/Off Switch (which can be used by itself in a single-switch installation) and a GE 45610 Z-Wave Auxiliary Switch. The primary switch does all the work of completing or interrupting the circuit, and it contains the Z-Wave functionality. The auxiliary switch basically acts as a wired remote control that sends a signal to the primary switch.

In this setup, both the line and load are wired directly to the primary switch, and only one traveler connects it to the auxiliary switch. This is actually pretty easy to accomplish with existing 3-way wiring. At the primary switch, the old common wire becomes the line, use one of the old travelers as the load, and use the other as the only traveler. Then, at the auxiliary switch, connect the traveler to the switch, and connect the other traveler (now the line) directly to what was the common wire (load) on the traditional 3-way switch.

There are multiple ways to wire a 3-way switch configuration, so your own installation may differ slightly. However, the same overall concepts will apply: one of the old travelers remains a traveler, and the other one connects directly to the line/load (common), bypassing the auxiliary switch entirely.

One final note: All of these Z-Wave switches also require a neutral connection in order to power the switch itself. This usually isn't an issue, but occasionally you'll encounter an end-of-line switch configuration where the neutral/white wire is used as hot, in which case you won't be able to replace it with a Z-Wave switch.

I put fifteen of these in last year (actually had the electrician do it). The single switches seem to hold up "ok" (I've only lost one) but the 3-ways have been failing pretty regularly. I have lost five of them so far. Darned expensive switches to last under a year. I am going with a different brand. The GE junk is penny wise and pound foolish I am afraid.

Honest reviews on GE 45614 Z-Wave Wireless Lighting Control 3-Way Switch Kit

So first off...I knew nothing about wiring before I started this. I knew the basics of electricity and that was it but I was determined that I didn't need an electrician to install these. I ordered 2 sets as I had 4 switches that I needed to replace/upgrade. Both of them were defective, which I figured out after two days of troubleshooting. Amazon's return process was easy and when the new ones arrived, put them in with no issue...took 15 mins.

A note about wiring though.... make sure you have a good understanding about the wiring in your house....I spent an hour learning exactly which wire did what and where it came form and went to. Not a fun experience but I plan to upgrade my whole house...so hiring someone and not learning was out of the question.

As for the directions...they make sense for the most part but of course I had extra wires that were not documented on them...so I had to figure out where to put them. Even had to re-wire and splice existing wiring to get these to work...so beware.

I've wired 2 of these in my house as a 3 way and 1 as a 4 way switch. Wiring took a bit to figure out, so if you're even a little unsure, hire an electrician. It's cheaper than a trip to the hospital or a burned down house. In short these guys are perfect. I hooked them up to my ADT Pulse system and can control them from anywhere in the world. Kind of awesome. Easy add to my ADT Pulse system. I originally did get a bad one, but Amazon quite handily replaced it for me for free. Totally recommend these for someone trying to turn his or her house into a smart home.

When looking for a magnifying lamp, I found there are a lot of options out there from around $50 to near $500. I'm sure you could spend $1500 if you worked at it. This one seems like a good compromise, not too expensive, not too cheap.

The item we're talking about here identifies itself as a Bourya Model 8069LED magnifier lamp. It does indeed have 108 LEDs, I counted. As others have noted, the magnifying head is big -an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper won't quite cover it.

I was pleased with the packaging. The lamp came in an extra-heavy cardboard carton. The magnifying head was well-protected in a styrofoam clamshell and plastic bag. The rest of the lamp was guarded by more cardboard, styrofoam, plastic bags, and twist ties. Amazon packed it in a big box with an orbital sander, yet the lamp survived its journey unscathed.

One thing not included in the package was any kind of printed material. At first, the base clamp seemed to be missing from the package. It turned out to have been taped to one of the styrofoam pieces, and was just light enough to be easy to miss. A picture or a thousand words might have made this clear. I didn't really miss the usual warnings about not using the product in the bathtub, however.

I'm very happy with the magnification this lamp provides. The lens is huge, and is actually a compound lens. If you look at the lens edgewise, you'll see an inner disc-shaped lens surrounded by a larger doughnut-shaped lens. A quick search on "compound lens" will show why this is a good thing. Still, if you look at at 3.5" square piece of paper through this lens, you'll see some geometric and color distortion. The edges of the paper appear to curve inward and have a blue fringe. These effects are not evident when you look at smaller objects that are more in the center of the lens. So this is not the lens you want for reading, but it should be great for electronics or hobby work. The outer edges of the lens are like peripheral vision, allowing you to see where hands and tools are in relation to the workpiece.

I'm satisfied with the LED lighting. It's bright without being too bright. I'm not sure if the "color temperature" is optimal for long hours of use, but it beats fluorescent lighting as far as I'm concerned. And of course, LEDs burn a lot cooler than the other options. Most of the LEDs are on the sides of the lens. There's a row of single LEDs across the top edge of the lens, and no LEDs on the bottom edge of the lens. What I'm calling the "bottom edge" would normally be closest to you when using the magnifier.

One thing to think about is where you'll mount the lamp. The optimal spot is probably on the opposite edge of your work surface, directly across from you, so you would pull the lamp down and towards you to use it. This is tricky if your work surface is flush with a wall or unusually deep. If you try to mount the light on the near edge of your table or counter, you'll find the magnifying head doesn't want to be parallel to the support arms. The connection between the magnifying head and the lamp arm is not a ball joint, so not all angles are possible. Other mounting options would include using a hole through the work surface or a sturdy shelf above the work surface. If you can provide a 1/2" hole, about 2" deep and lined with a suitable material, you don't need to use the base clamp.

All in all, this light is a very good value. I don't think you'll find this lamp in your doctor's office or on a Foxconn assembly line, but it's pretty good bet for a lot of light-to-moderate uses that don't involve life-or-death decisions.

lamp received seemed to work very well, except the mounting bracket was missing, the lamp emblems were damaged, straches all over the lamp. The lamp was shipped inside a huge box, they could have placed 6 or more inside of the shipping box. The company refused to pay for return, it cost over $40.00 to return the lamp with insurance !!! They claimed they could not send a new one, this was the only lamp they had. Sad part about all this...no one seems to care that you loose money, they take there sweet time giving you Return Authorization, then you must wait until they receive the package back, then you wait for another 10 days to have your funds returned to your account..

VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS PRODUCT only because they shipped out damaged goods and there return policy was bull-_-!!! .....

I lost money because I had to ship there damaged product back!

Best Deals for Ultra-Efficient 108 LED Magnifier Lamp - Large 7" x 6" Lens

I just received the lamp and hooked it up. It's a big improvement on the lamp I had, both in terms of lighting and optical performance.

The construction quality and design are pretty good, and the magnifying glass and light from the LEDs are excellent. The light is pleasantly bright and even, there is no electrical hum, the LEDs give off no heat, and there is no flicker.

The only disappointments are that the design of the arm was switched from a counter-weighted one to a spring-loaded one, and that the cover for the magnifying glass doesn't latch open using notches or friction from the hinges. If the magnifier is used with the lamp in a nearly vertical position, the cover won't stay open.

Overall I'm happy that I spent a little extra on this model and would recommend it to others.

Honest reviews on Ultra-Efficient 108 LED Magnifier Lamp - Large 7" x 6" Lens

I have used several cheap desk lamp magnifiers. They always wind up breaking. Either the clamp or the arm bolts, etc.

This lamp though is absolutely perfect. The magnification is excellent. The viewing area is huge. And the mulit-leds light up everything you put under it perfectly.

The thing is built like a tank also. Wonderful design. Very solid.

It's a must buy for electronic work, or small projects.

ON USAGE: First, I LOVE this lamp. It's the only type of lamp that can reach the middle of my curved Anthro Cart Console desk. It seems really well built! Now I can see resistor color codes with ease and work on electronics projects. And my 65+ year old eyes don't get tired after a long time using it.

USAGE: The plastic connector (it may have a metal insert, who knows) at the lamp head appears to me to possibly be a weak point. I don't want to take a chance on breaking it. So for me, instead of adjusting the arms by moving the lamp head alone up or down, I place one hand on the pivot point of the two arms and the other at the upper clamp assembly. Then adjust the angle up or down. That way there's no strain on the lamp head-to-post clamp and one can make sure that the main pivot point doesn't flex down instead of up.

Make sure to clamp the light to a very sturdy surface, as the force on the base clamp will multiply exponentially with the amount of extension of the fixture.

LENS COVER: Although there's no "click to stay open" feature with the lens cover, it does tend to stay up with the lamp head at approximately a 35 degree tilt down from horizontal. If it ultimately tends to fall (after a time of wear)from a "too steep position" a simple wooden cloths pin at the back of the hinge should do the trick without marring the plastic hinge. This is not a substitute for a hold-open feature, but it should work reasonably well.

WHAT THE HECK IS "PURE WHITE"? The color of the light on the product description is described as "pure white". This is description of reflective light when compared to another color or "the absence of color" but is very subjective, not factual. "Pure white" is a useless word when describing a light source. Light color is measured in degrees Kelvin (color temperature)or in wave length. So what does "pure white" mean?

BACK TO SCHOOL: Light exists within the electromagnetic spectrum. The visual portion of which ranges from infrared to ultraviolet and is measured in wave length. Degrees Kelvin however refers to color temperature and is easier to measure than wave length and is (or should be) an industry standard.

As a reference, candle light might be about 1850 degrees Kelvin, "indoor light" approximately 3200K, and outdoor light varying quite a lot, but "daylight" might around 5600K or on an overcast day maybe 10,000 degrees Kelvin. So what is "pure white"?

I don't own a color temperature meter and so can't measure the color temperature of this particular light fixture. Since this is not a "name brand" unit, there's no manufacturer to query for color temperature specs. So we don't know what color it really is. But "pure white" as a description is just as meaningless as "cool white" or "warm white". Its advertisement, packaging, or what ever you want to call it, but not fact.

So which color is best for what application? Depends. We're told that 4,000 degrees Kelvin or thereabouts is best for electronics work or office work, but 6,500 degrees Kelvin tends to be more efficient,in Lumins per watt, for LEDs which this fixture uses.

So which is more important regarding lighting? Our eyes or energy efficiency? So what is "pure white" light? I guess only the advertisers know? (joke). Sorry about the rant, but advertisers sometimes tend to leave off vital data, at least for some. Product description is supposed to be factual, right? Depends on who's writing it. Ever seen an imperfect home in a real estate ad? You probably never will. But I digress.

All in all, this is really a great lamp and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a high quality light with a magnifier to swing over their desk with only a few caveats as mentioned above.

One can only wish the manufacturer would get on the stick and spec out the color temperature for those who care about their eyes or matching the light source with other fixtures. Regardless, you can't go wrong with this light fixture unless you require a specific color and/or want to match other light sources.

I purchased this item well over a year ago for my GMC dump truck that I use for tree removal and snow plowing and salting. The light works great and held up well after months of salt lying on it. I'm ordering more today for the rest of my equipment since I'm not easily impressed. The main selling point should be the lens did not discolor which has been my problem with the other lights I have purchased in the past.

We placed these lights on a couple of vehicles for airport use. They provide a good amount of visibility but are not too bright at night, which is critical to where we use them. The choices in flash patterns are numerous. After nine months of everyday use the lights have held up well to the elements and worked flawlessly. Power draw is minimal due to being LED. Well built and easy to mount.

Beautiful lights easy to set up and I love having solar lights no worry about extension cords and finding an outdoor electrical outlet. Highly recommend these and Stirlingtech Solar. Shipped and deliveried in a timely manner.

they were easy to install and look very nice in the early evening. They have used up their charge by midnight, which probably pleases the neighbors. I wish there was more chord between the lights so they could be more spread out and not display as a clump in the middle of the branches.

After five hours of direct sunshine, the lights lit up and looked beautiful on my trellis, but after about ten minutes, they shut off and that was it. If after a full day of sun, they don't remain on for more than a few minutes, I will return them.

Update: After two full days of direct sun, these lights only stayed lit for a measly two hours. Very disappointing as they are very pretty.

Light was perfect for my application, lighting a kitting area. Light output is slightly less then a t18 fixture, but doesn't put out any heat. Manufacturer offers cord to gang together lights. Great quality product!

These are very nice and easy to use. We have 3 of them. The only issue is 1 of the 3 starts up about 1-2 second after the other two. I returned it to LEDWholesalers who were nice enough to call me and say they tested all the remaining items in stock and they all had this delay. Anyway, so we are just living with one that turns on a bit slower than the rest.

LEDwholesalers 9 Watt 33 Inches LED Undercabinet Light warm white 120 Volt, 2079ww Not only plenty of bright light to see. This Light is the Best of the Best, It has enough Light output that if i did not have a lowered ceiling, I would buy 2 of these and hook them up on the ceiling as these under cabinet lights are very capable of illuminating the whole Kitchen. Hint, Hint, for who ever wants to use less electricity and these LEDs would last for years.

This product works as claimed and an end to end extension cable comes with it, so another is not needed.

I've installed these as vanity lights, vertically on both sides of a mirror for make-up lighting. The "warm" color is definitely not at all yellow/warm but actually pure white (versus the blue tint that would be "cool"). It is bright enough, but not blindingly bright (important since it will be close to my face). I'm replacing halogen vanity bars which give off insane amounts of heat my make-up melts before it's even on (the entire bathroom gets overheated). The light isn't spread evenly across the whole surface, but instead you see a line of fat, closely-spaced (1 per inch) dots of light. Positioned along each side of my bathroom mirror, the big dots look like miniature backstage dressing room lights, so pretty cute. Most important, when it is off, the cover is just opaque white -the bulbs, the on/off switch and the "innards" are not visible or exposed the way they are in most under-cabinet strips. There is, however, about a 20 second delay when you turn it on -that could definitely annoy some people. Overall, nice slim minimalist design -attractive enough to be exposed (as in my application) but skinny enough to tuck under a cabinet or just about anywhere. (I took away one star because the seller doesn't reduce the shipping charges even when you're ordering several.)

These little lights are dynamos! Super bright and compact. I recommend to anyone. I'm a RN and attach it to my badge for night work. excellent!

These are a great little product, a perfectly acceptable no-name lookalike/knockoff of a much more expensive manufacturer's light. Surprisingly bright, I can't guess the lumens, but bright. Buy a bunch and scatter them around the house, car and drawers --one on every keychain, toss one in your shirt pocket just in case you wind up staying out after dark on your dog walk, Great for travel, put one on your carryon bag's zipper pulls for finding items in the dark airline cabin at night. Great for UL backpacking or camping. Great gifts to friends.

A lot of these come out of Asia with wide variations in quality control and brightness so the batch you get can be hit or miss, but if 8 out of 10 are acceptably bright you've still got a bargain. Battery shelf life seems to be from one to two years. Theoretically you can unscrew and replace the batteries, I haven't tried ( batteries will cost more than ordering new lights). Look for '22000MCD' or higher when shopping for brightness; anything lower may be a less-bright knockoff of the knockoff.

They also have a constant-on clickable switch. I've never run one to exhaustion so I don't know their run time. In 30 and 60 second bursts of use, they last a long time. Some that have been sitting in a drawer unused for a year (or two? three?) are now at various stages of dimming so they don't last forever. But a bright light, for well under a dollar each, with zero bulk and zero weight? Priceless.

They are small, bright, and long lasting. I use them for my emergency kits and for pocket lights. The only drawback I can find with them is that they are not at all water resistant. But for the price, you can't beat them. keep 'em dry and they are great.

The bulb I received had Color Temperature 6500K (instead of 5500K as advertised) that gave a blue hue instead of white sunlight.

The brand was "MyGift" instead of "Naturallighting" as advertised.

The description says its 200 lumens but it feels weak to me.

The box it came with has no instructions, was hoping there was a way to switch to high. ( I did find a SOS mode).

Again, no mention of this in the box. I did not buy this light because it was cheap, would have paid 10x as much if it was a lot stronger.

I dont know why people cant make a powerful light for the cap. guess i will give this away and keep looking for a better light.

also ordered this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QCXTBI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00 hope it's stronger.

LOL I would like to know if this thing has a brand name and model so i can look up details. guess its not good enough for a band name?

Update: I ordered a different cap light and it was even weaker then this one. If someone out there knows of a powerful cap light please let me know thanks

Update 2, this light is starting to grow on me. I tried other lights since i first reviewed this and found the other lights for the cap to be a LOT worse.

It may look a little flimsy but it has held up well. I use it five nights a week on average about 5 hours each night. fresh batteries last the full five days, rechargeable a day and a half.

Over all I am impressed with its zoom quality, a great help in my evening work.

As I already own a headlamp with a "160 lumen high intensity CREE bulb" (also bought here on Amazon), I thought this would be a perfect addition when I wanted to have a light on a ball cap. My headlamp with 160 lumens looks twice as bright as this 200 lumen headlamp. Whereas my older headlamp has the zoom feature as a slide function (which works great), the rotate zoom feature on this headlamp works okay at best. Sometimes it works great, other times you kind of just have to keep spinning it until it starts changing (definitely not the "speed focus" as advertised).

As advertised I would never let it "be a guide when you take cycle at night" as no way it's "as bright as a spotlight". It does work well for walking in the dark, and for lighting up "hands on" work right in front of you. I still gave it four stars as this is exactly all I bought this light for.

If you want a "bright" headlamp, you'll likely be disappointed if you buy this one.

Review of Daffodil ULT180B USB LED Lamp with 18 Bright LED Bulbs - Magnifying

Daffodil ULT180B USB LED Lamp with 18 Bright LED Bulbs - Magnifying Glass and Flexible Gooseneck - Dual Powered by USB or by 3xAAA Batteries - PC & Mac Compatible

The lamp is small and does not provide a lot of light, but it is enough to read pages directly under it. The on/off button clicks once for dim lighting (half the LEDs on), a second click for bright (all LEDs on), third click for off. If batteries are inserted and then the USB power cable is inserted, it isolates the batteries from the circuit so they are not getting charged by the USB. I'd rate it 5 stars if it was a little sturdier and brighter.

The lamp is strong enough to illuminate a page of text -barely. I was hoping for brighter light.

Best Deals for Daffodil ULT180B USB LED Lamp with 18 Bright LED Bulbs - Magnifying

This little lamp isn't the brightest, but it's working great for my purposes. I frequently have to look at very small text on various electronics to identify part numbers or serial numbers, and at times it was difficult with my office lighting (and my vision). Now, with this little lamp on my desk, the magnifying glass and LEDs provide enough light and magnification that it's never an issue anymore.

Honest reviews on Daffodil ULT180B USB LED Lamp with 18 Bright LED Bulbs - Magnifying

I wasn't expecting much for the price of this little light but I was surprised how it nicely it illuminates my small desk.

The main reason I bought it was for the magnifying part of it after hassling for about five minutes to thread a needle!

Pros:

1. Compact

2. Sturdy on/off high/low light setting switch on the base

3. Doesn't tip over in any position

4. Looks good

5. Inexpensive

6. Soft and even illumination

Cons:

Magnifying glass is plastic and not that good, but it works for me

(Hence the four stars)

This is a handy little light and works well with both a USB and battery operation. Easily folds up and carried in a bag. The magnifying lens is very small though, so if you plan on reading pages, this is not the lamp for you. Also, the length of the flexible arm is short for anything really useful, I had to rig it up to a bench vise since I also use it to tie flies, no problem for little fresh water flies, but the larger salt water (2" plus) are actually too big to view in the magnifier.

This item is NOT solar powered and does not include rechargeable batteries. Instead it runs on four AA batteries, not included, which are supposed to last for several months. When contacted Amazon offered to refund purchase price, but decided to keep them because the stars do look nice and are very bright.

This item is described as solar powered, but it isn't. It is run by 4 AA cells. It is supposed to run for 5 hours in a 24 hour period reoccurring at the time of the battery installation. The incorrect description notwithstanding, it is still quite beautiful and changes through a variety of colors. I just got it so I can't speak to the battery life or the durablility of the item at this point.

Update May 6, 2013: The star light is still working well. I have changed batteries once. A very high wind knocked the star off the bulb, but it was easily repaired with some 3M Emblem cement. The star has become slightly yellowed by the sun but still looks nice.

Best Deals for Anywhere Lighting Battery Operated Hanging Color Changing Star Light

I bought this to hang outside but have been so mesmerized by it, it is still indoors. The batteries go into a case that is at the top of a two foot cord from which the star hangs. It is definitely not solar operated although I do wish that the solar version was still available for outdoor use. The battery operated one is good if you want to keep it indoors since it doesn't require a solar charge but it works outdoors, too. There is a hook at the top of the case. Once you put the batteries in, it remembers that time every day and turns on. It remains on for 5 hours. If you want to reset the on time, you have to take the batteries out and put them back in. I sort of wish that the timer was longer but this will do.

My only regret is that I didn't buy more of them.

Honest reviews on Anywhere Lighting Battery Operated Hanging Color Changing Star Light

This light arrived on time and was not damaged. The problem is that it says it's solar but it's not. You just use AA batteries. It comes on when you put the batteries in and stays on for 5 hours. The next day it will come back on for 5 hours and go back off for as many days as the batteries last. It says 4 months but we shall see. I may decide to keep it because it's pretty where I hung it. Very disappointed that it's NOT solar.

Forget solar, most of those fail in no time.

These are wonderful operating on batteries. I use rechargeables so they don't last the full 4 months you get from the EverReadyBunny types, but the 5 hours a day timer is just perfect.

I bought these from 3rd party. Did not know Amazon had them until now.
