The lamp is small and does not provide a lot of light, but it is enough to read pages directly under it. The on/off button clicks once for dim lighting (half the LEDs on), a second click for bright (all LEDs on), third click for off. If batteries are inserted and then the USB power cable is inserted, it isolates the batteries from the circuit so they are not getting charged by the USB. I'd rate it 5 stars if it was a little sturdier and brighter.

The lamp is strong enough to illuminate a page of text -barely. I was hoping for brighter light.

This little lamp isn't the brightest, but it's working great for my purposes. I frequently have to look at very small text on various electronics to identify part numbers or serial numbers, and at times it was difficult with my office lighting (and my vision). Now, with this little lamp on my desk, the magnifying glass and LEDs provide enough light and magnification that it's never an issue anymore.

I wasn't expecting much for the price of this little light but I was surprised how it nicely it illuminates my small desk.

The main reason I bought it was for the magnifying part of it after hassling for about five minutes to thread a needle!

Pros:

1. Compact

2. Sturdy on/off high/low light setting switch on the base

3. Doesn't tip over in any position

4. Looks good

5. Inexpensive

6. Soft and even illumination

Cons:

Magnifying glass is plastic and not that good, but it works for me

This is a handy little light and works well with both a USB and battery operation. Easily folds up and carried in a bag. The magnifying lens is very small though, so if you plan on reading pages, this is not the lamp for you. Also, the length of the flexible arm is short for anything really useful, I had to rig it up to a bench vise since I also use it to tie flies, no problem for little fresh water flies, but the larger salt water (2" plus) are actually too big to view in the magnifier.
