cheap china product, but I made mine better and working flawlessly.

At least this is how I made it better.

First off these are comprised of very few parts and its all solid state electronics, so other than the switch or a soldering point, there is very little that can go wrong with it... at least I thought.

When mine arrived it did not work, so whats a country boy to do but take it apart and see why.

In summary, its a design flaw with the body/housing, but it was fixable for me.

Without going into all the troubleshooting and circuit testing I did, I'll just give you the summary. The problem with mine was the curve of the the body/housing was causing the circuit board holding the LED lights to curve. This curve was causing a short of some kind. Tested it by taking it apart, putting the batteries back in, holding the battery cover with my one hand, and clicking the switch with the other hand. Both modes, constant light and strobe light, worked perfectly.

What I ended up doing, after trying a couple hand files, was to use my dremel tool with an abrasive cut-off blade to remove about half of plastic body/housing thickness only at the circuit board area, and only on the bottom half of the body/housing (the part without the hat clips).

What this did was decrease the amount of curviture of the led panel circuit board, thus decreased the pressure on the citcuit board the curve provided. Put it back together and BAM... a flawlessly working LED hat light for a couple bucks and little of my time.

I am making absolutely no recommendations for how anyone is to go about fixing their non-working and intemittently working LED hat light. Just sharing my experience and how I got mine to work.

CONCLUSION: For the price, is a steal. A real bargain, although you can get them MUCH cheaper on ebay. I bought another there on ebay for $2 and shipping was free. Was the exact same light but it shipped from china to the usa. They just need to redesign it a little. So I will give this a 4. I had alot of fun troubleshooting it and seeing how it worked, so that didnt bother me. If that bothers you then the rating would probably fall between 1 and 3.

Hey, its a cheap light from china that costs less than a cheap breakfast or a starbucks coffee. What do you expect. If you want quality, go spend $10-$20 for a good one.

I have many flashlights, from little one LED on my keychain to the biggest Mag-Lite with 4 D-cell batteries, to strap-on-the-head "miners" headlamps. The one I use most and find by far the most convenient is this unique unit. I do a lot of camping, and when I'm not on the trail I'm usually working on my yard, house or vehicle. Once I get started on a project there's never enough daylight to finish everything I want to do. With this unit attached to the brim of your cap you've got hands-free illumination that always shines in the direction you are facing, without the need for the straps that support the "miners" lamps. It provides a strong enough beam to illuminate the path ahead as you walk, and is wide enough to not run into your fellow campers. Its limitations are: 1) you have to tip the brim of your cap down for close work (many "miners" lamps pivot up & down), and 2)the beam doesn't reach as far as the more powerful lights. But for 99% of what I want a flashlight for, this is the best thing out there.

I suppose I could be an isolated incident; but it took forever to arrive and then didn't work at all. I even went out and bought new batteries to see if it was just the batteries that were crap. Nope, the product never worked and frankly I just ate the cost and didn't try sending it back. I figure that's what I get for buying something that didn't cost much. You get what you pay for. I don't recommend this product or this vendor.

The item arrived quickly and worked as stated by the seller. I like the weight of the flashlight. It does not weigh down the front of the cap. I have been using it every night for sbout 4 weeks for about 2 hours a night and have had no issues with it.

I have four of these in my bathroom to substitute the four 150 watt bulbs originally in the fixture. I was delighted to find these halogen substitutes. Before the room would get hot over time due to the heat and used 600 watts(!) to light it, now cool, low wattage light. While not quite as bright as the halogens, these provided nice whiter light at very adequate brightness, and I'm very pleased.

I'm using this bulb to replace a 100w T6 halogen in an old 3-way desk lamp. At first I had some trouble with installation, the bulb is a few millimeters longer than a standard double ended t6. The back of the unit is covered by an aluminium heatsink shroud. One of the downsides to this design is that it produces a much narrower cone of light than a halogen would.

The lumens produced is roughly equal to a 50w halogen bulb. This amount of light is perfect for my needs in my size desk lamp, I've always felt the original 100w halogen bulb was overkill on the highest setting.

The color consistency of the LED bulb is very poor, casting a nasty greenish yellow light that is nowhere near warm white. I have tried to correct this with various blue gels but have been unsuccessful so far.

The unit is non-dimmable, it will strobe and buzz at any level less than full power.

This is my seventh LED bulb; I've purchased different units at all price ranges. The more expensive bulbs have the best color consistency, dimmability and heat management. Cheaper bulbs were mislabeled as flood instead of spot, most would not work in any dimmers at all, and the color quality of light produced is worse than many florescent lamps. However if all you want is to save money and energy, then this and other cheap LEDs are a fine solution. Although I would rather pay double for dimmability and color quality and will not buy another cheap LED bulb in the future.

I got several of these at Home Depot-there are two varieties, the 16PAR38, for indoor use, and the 16PAR38 OUT. I like them both very much.

I have the outdoor model in my outdoor floodlights, the indoor model inside. It's a little heavier than the incandescent bulbs it replaced, but quite bright. The outdoor model has a slightly bluer light than the indoor model, which is a neutral white.

They're a little expensive, but you can't beat the efficiency, if you want a floodlight (directional) bulb, for instance in an overhead fixture pointing downward, or possibly a reading light. Despite the high price, I expect these to pay for themselves in reduced electric bills, and I like the fact that they are Mercury free, so I think of them as quite a bit more environmentally friendly than CF bulbs. They come with a long warrantee, and I'll be happy about not having to replace bulbs every year or so.

Recommended.

I really like the white lighting produced from this new flood light. The bulb is heavier than conventional flood light bulbs. I like the design and it really looks nice in the ceiling. I had those energy saving curly cue bulbs with mercury but they were burning out in less than a year and the hazard if you dropped one. These lights are costly at $70.00 each but they may be cheaper in the lower-48's. I purchase my lights at Home Depot here in Anchorage, Alaska and hope Amazon will start carring them at a cheaper rate. I do recommend this product.

This is a beautiful work of art and well worth it. The details are very nicely done, and so are the colors. Be aware that it is a fairly large (wide) piece and although it worked out well for us given our large island, it may not be suitable just anywhere.

The reason for the variation in the reviews, is because they are shipping different product at different times, likely all Cree Quality Control rejects. I made orders of 3, 5 and 7 flashlights in sequence. The order of 3 was great and resulted in my decision to make the two subsequent orders. The order of 5 were labeled Sipik and mostly junk, the order of 7 was unlabeled but acceptable. Attempts to return the items resulted in a run around of e-mail, sending pictures, and unloading the cost to ship and risk of loss back to me.

I would also like to know if Happy Electronics, Lucky Electronics, BBQbuy and BestDeal777 are all the same company. They all were involved in some way in the 3 orders when I thought I was dealing with one company.

The product switching is clearly deceptive marketing and unethical, as well as unfair to other vendors. I won't be buying anything shipping directly from China. Amazon credibility and good name also suffers from such practicesl.

SELLERS:

You might prefer a US based seller (may only be 50¢ more expensive), so that you get the product in a week instead of a month, and fast returns if there are problems. Be sure to take a good look at seller ratings before buying, and post negative seller feedback if you are treated badly... Some of the cheapest sellers have only 50-60% positive rating, while it is normal to see 90+% positive.

1-MODE VS. 3-MODE:

The cheapest sellers are typically offering the 1-mode light, so expect to pay a bit more for a 3-mode. You should also realize that 3-mode isn't always a good thing... Several reviewers have complained that they don't like the extra complexity and confusing (memory) behavior, so consider your needs carefully. As bright as this is, I insist on 3-mode so I can dim the light, and get several times longer battery life. The combination of high/low and flood/spot very effectively covers the full range of flashlight usage scenarios. I only wish LOW was the first mode in the cycle... you can't un-blind yourself after the fact.

BATTERY/RUN-TIME:

It is a waste to buy 14500 Li-Ion batteries... Most of them cost ~$4/each, and have just 10% more power (Volt*Amp/Hours) than a $1.20/each LSD NiMH rechargeable, which withstands much more abuse. Contrary to some other reviews here, I've seen absolutely NO difference in light output whether my lights are driven by 1.5V or 3.6V, so the regulator is doing a superb job. Although a hot-off-the-charger Li-Ion battery, briefly at ~4.2 volts might over-drive the LED for a small increase. Only go for Li-Ion if a tiny bit of weight is absolutely critical to your purpose, in which case I might prefer a couple disposable Lithium AAs. Also, a single AA is much cheaper, smaller, and more convenient than 3xAAAs, yet both provide nearly the same amount of power. In a pinch, this flashlight even runs reliably on a single AAA battery without modification. So this unit is superior to most other small flashlights.

On a single Tenergy Centura LSD AA NiMH Battery, I get 1.5 hours of run-time on HIGH before the light dims to the point that it is no brighter than the LOW setting. I expect "strobe" mode to get double that. LOW mode lasts about 4.5 hours before the voltage presumably drops too low and the regulator suddenly shuts-off the light entirely. With a 13¢ "Super Heavy Duty" AA battery, I got about half the run-time, which is impressive and useful in emergencies (but starts to dim sooner than NiMH). With a battery extension tube extending this to 2xAAs, on high I get 4 hours of run-time, though the bulge at the tail cap is uncomfortable in the center of your hand.

CLONES:

The first light I got was the 150 lumen Ultrafire SK68, which is a very similar but cheaper clone of the 120 lumen Sipik SK68 that a few people have gotten, which was itself originally a MUCH cheaper clone (using a different battery) of the old 220 lumen Nitecore Extreme: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003F6PRUO/

The blank/unbranded SK68 clones sold here are a bit different than their cousins, with the rear button protruding from the tail-cap so they can't tail-stand, and the thread diameter being larger so you can't swap tail-caps between a Sipik/Ultrafire SK68 and the no-name lights. I really HATE not being able to tail-stand, but otherwise the cheap clones are nearly as good.

SUMMARY:

This is the PERFECT small flashlight. I always carry one in my back pocket, next to my wallet... I rarely notice it and I've always got a great flashlight with me when I need it. With an extension tube, it can fill the role of a MEDIUM sized flashlight as well. With the belt-clip turned backwards, it can clip on a hat for a hands-free headlamp. The high/low modes and flood/spot zoom lens means you get the exact lighting you want for nearly any purpose. And it makes a great whole-room light if you unscrew and remove the lens entirely (equivalent to a 15W bulb). The manufacturer rates this "SK68" light as 150 lumens, not 300lm as listed here, and it's certainly evenly matched with my 190 lumen Dorcy CyberLight. I just wish I could find a large 2xD flashlight with all these same features... The Small Sun ZY-A601 was discontinued, and I'm at a loss to find anything else.

If you have any information to add, particularly if you believe my list is inaccurate, feel free to leave a comment below. I can update it with new information as it becomes available.

Best Deals for FordEx Group 300lm Mini Cree Led Flashlight Torch Adjustable Focus

Hello all,

Just a quick review and a bit of instruction that I've discovered to work on my 3 flashlights.

For the money, I am very happy with this little gem of a light. It is small and it uses a commonly found battery. Run time may be suspect for some, but for infrequent to moderate use it's wonderful. For a small carry torch it does whatever you would need to do with it. I use it all the time to get through the dark parts of my basement or toolbox at night on the wide angle beam and for spotting the animals and neighborhood kids causing trouble in our yards with the focused beam.

A lot of people have posted about issues they are having with their lights having either 'on/off mode' or 'high/low/strobe modes' using the switch on the back, but not both. I can say that all three of these torches I purchased have had all of these modes depending on how you use the button and the period in between 'on' or 'off' cycles. I discovered this by accident on my first flashlight which was lost in a motorcycle accident. I ordered two next time because I missed it so much. Of my entire ordeal from the accident the one thing I was most sore about was losing that little flashlight. When the next two arrived the first thing I did was cycle through all of the modes to make sure my last one wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. These two worked exactly the same way. It would have probably helped if the manufacturer had placed some type of instructions for this in the box, but none of mine arrived with anything but the bubble wrapped light inside a plain white box. I assume you all received the same.

Here is what I've discovered:

On/Off Mode (high brightness only):

Click once to turn it on it will always be on the brightest setting if it has sat for a while Click once again to turn it off.

Let it sit for 3 seconds or so and you can repeat the above with the exact same result every time.

High/Low/Strobe Mode:

Click once to turn it on this will be High brightness click it again twice within a second of the first click this will be Low brightness click it again twice within a second of the previous click this will be a strobe at high brightness click it again to turn it off. Let it sit in the off mode for 3 seconds after any of these modes and it will return to the On/Off mode with full brightness next time you turn it on.

You can also turn it on at full brightness and depress the switch only partially to cycle through the High/Low/Strobe modes without turning the light off between modes.

I will try to attach a video to show this. I've never done this before so it may not work (which is why I offered the written instructions above). In the video it may be difficult to recognize the brightness modes, but you'll believe me after you try it yourself.

In conclusion, I think wherever you buy this light it is very much worth it for the price. I think it will make a very practical and useful gift on the cheap that almost anyone will be happy to have. Even if they just keep it in a glove box, in an emergency kit in the trunk/boot, in a saddle bag of their motorcycle, in a back pack or whatever, they will be happy to have it when they need it. The light uses readily available AA batteries and is super easy to use (once you know how to work the magic button on the back).

I hope this review/demo has been helpful.

Chuck

Edit on 14 Aug 2013:

It seems there is no way of telling which model flashlight you are going to get when you order. I've order from this vendor at least twice and have gotten flashlights with 3 modes and flashlights with on/off. On mine I notice the flashlights with the on/off only mode the orange button is smooth and shiny. On the ones with 3 modes the button is dull/matte orange and has a very slight texture to it. So it seems it is a coin toss whether you get the 3 mode or the on/off mode flashlights. I wish I had any better info on this and how to ensure you get the one you want. I typically use the full bright only mode on all of them so on/off works for me, but I have used the med light once or twice in situations where I planned to have the light on for a bit longer than usual (I took a shower when the power went out by setting this thing on the corner of my vanity on medium light and flooding light on the ceiling). Good luck.

Honest reviews on FordEx Group 300lm Mini Cree Led Flashlight Torch Adjustable Focus

Ordered 2 lights Both arrived quickly, in perfect condition. Fit and finish is excellent for the asking price no scratches, lens blemishes or stripped threads. The difference in brightness between the HIGH and LOW settings is very usable The LOW is definitely a lot dimmer than the BRIGHT, but still very adequate for indoor use.

Current consumption at 1.3 volts measures almost exactly 1000 mA on HIGH, or 250 mA on LOW Should provide around 2 or 8 hours of run time respectively, from a 2000 mAH Ni-MH rechargeable AA cell.

The beam focus feature offers a wide range of settings. It could be improved just a bit if the focus ring rotated on threads instead of just sliding up and down As it is, your focus setting is easily changed if the front of the flashlight is bumped. Also, the focus becomes just a little too sharp at its highest magnification: The beam takes the exact shape of the LED's die sort of reminds me of a little Batman searchlight!

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this model to anyone who wants a bright, small, very affordable flashlight that takes an expensive, easy-to-find battery. The fact that it has two distinct, very usable brightness settings (plus a strobe function) makes it even more useful.

This little light is quite effective for what it is. It's very compact, will give a good beam out to at least 100 feet when focused, and seems pretty durable. The price has apparently gone down since I ordered my first one, so I'm ordering anotherwith free shipping, I might add!

Pros:

Compact

Powerful

Uses one AA battery (cheap to feed!)

Seems to have good battery life

Good quality belt/clothing clip

Cons:

The crenelations (the three parts of the light that protrude out, surrounding the actual lens) are a bit sharp. I might gently file mine down so I don't accidentally cut myself, but so far it's been fine.

If you're looking for a good, compact flashlight that won't cost you an arm and a leg, order this flashlight! You will enjoy it.

This little light gets a bit warm so I prefer to wear it on a ball cap brim or suspend it over a hook in the shed where I'm working. The swivel feature is particularly nice for directing either the high-intensity center beam or dual-lower intensity side beams. But, my favorite is the red light for "spook free" lighting in the Paddock. Worth having two or three. Makes nice gift -ask our friends!

Brilliant white light that allows me to use my Nikon stereo microscope at high magnifications at last!

In fact, it's so intense that you don't have to have the bulbs very close to the subject. Don't look into these beams! When directed at the ceiling, or at a wall, or even at a building across the way, you'll see clear discs of light; this thing is really powerful. In fact, I'm going to use it to throw some hot spots here and there to make my photography look more interesting too. For other tasks, such as eyeballing a bit or a tool tip, it's just too bright.

Build and feel are very good. The lights switch on and off by the lightest touch, and when turned off there are pretty red rings at the base. These not only direct your attention to the on/off switches, but look great too.

Buying items like these can be a crapshoot because there's just a photo to go on. This product here makes up for several really crap products that I was dumb enough to buy recently. Highly recommended.

This is a very versatile LED light that has many applications in your home. It features automatic on and off with a motion sensor and it will only come on in the dark when set in that mode. The light has a sensor that uses (PIR) Passive Infrared detection and it can come on when sensing motion and/or heat. You can set the on switch to allow the LEDs to stay on for 30 or 60 seconds. The light uses three AA batteries and it does not come with batteries. It is recommended that you use alkaline batteries. You can also set the light to the off mode and turn it on continuously as an emergency flashlight by pressing the on button.

The light is stylish and attractive and it can easily mount using a mounting plate and screws or an adhesive pad. It is ideal for a light for a dark hallway, stairs, and steps, as a bedroom nightlight, closets, bathrooms, garages, attics and basements. The light comes with the adhesive mounting pad, the plastic mounting disk, two screws and the instruction manual. (Please see my video)

The light installs easily without any wiring or a lot of work. The sensor sees motion in a 180 degree angle (Virtually up and down a hallway) up to 15 to 16.4 feet away. The light is bright enough to be of use and it would be ideal for a children's bedroom for a night light that will come on when they get up. It improves safety and it helps provide a sense of security. The light has a crescent shaped frosted plastic lens that nicely takes the glare off of the LEDs and more evenly spreads the white LED light.

The light weighs 2 3/8 ounces without the batteries and 5 1/8 ounces with the batteries installed. It is 3 ½ inches in diameter and 1 ¼ inches thick. If you use the hanging disk that comes with the light you can easily lift it off of the small mounting nub and use it as an emergency flashlight. The LEDs have an on time lifetime of 10,000 hours and they are energy efficient. One set of batteries can last for 2,400 on and off cycles.

This is fast and easy to install and use and it is priced reasonably. It has a lot of applications and I rate it as a 5 star item.

I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation and I promised to provide a fair and honest review.

The light is brighter than expected, so I'm trying to decide where the placement should be so as not to hit me in the eyes. I'm actually glad it's bright and will work out the placement. Turns on immediately with remote sensing in the staircase.

Do you have a spot in your home, vehicle or anywhere else where you'd like a motion sensitive light, but don't have a handy outlet or wiring in place for it? The Hipe 6 LED Automatic Motion-sensing Night Light could be just what you need.

The Hipe light uses 3 AA batteries (not included) and under normal usage I would expect them to last for at least a few month before needing replacing. I also have the B00CRJSIH4 and it uses 4 AAAs. Where the latter light has more versatility when it comes to mounting and settings, this light SHINES (sorry) with an overall brighter light and front facing controls. A bit larger than a hockey puck, you can either mount it to use as a night light or motion sensitive light, or you can carry it as a flashlight because of the easy access to the simple on/off button.

I also like the fact that the LEDs span about 70% of the rim of this device, giving the user a spot to hold it without blocking any of the light. As the product images above show, there is a motion sensor (not adjustable) at the top, a slider to set the motion detector light duration to either OFF, 30 or 60 seconds, and a power button for immediate response. The sensor is quite sensitive and can detect motion up to 15 feet away. When put in motion detection mode, it only comes on when it is dark.

I'm keeping mine mounted to the wall by the door into my garage. I could use the regular lights, but in the case of a power outage, it is good to have a light source there and also the handy option to detach and use it as a flashlight. I'm considering getting another one for the hall outside my kid's bathroom.

I receive a sample unit from the company for review purposes.

The best functionality, TorchStar products have consistantly been the best quality purchases I have made to date. Unfortunately they do not make all of the products that I need. This light and the E26/E27 Pure White lights are good buys. David

Energy sipping. White lite and works better than expected. I bought it to replace an older style that used 30 times this amount of energy.

We bought four of these. Price wise, we could not find a cheaper UL rated outdoor fan. Overall they have been good, however we do not recommend them for unproteced areas with the possibility of high winds. We have had trouble with the fan blades working themselves loose over time as the wind has flexed the blades. Given that, we received great customer service when two of the blades came loose, hit the ground, and broke. If you put these in a high wind area, you must tighten the blades from time to time or they will break off. This may be an issue for all outdoor ceiling fans, not just this model. If you live in an area with high wind potential, we recommend not installing outdoor ceiling fans. The two fans we installed in an outdoor wind protected area have had no issues.

I originally purchased this ceiling fan because it was affordable and black in color. Redesigning my room, I went with accent black decor. I tried in vain to find an affordable and high quality black fan. I noticed most 52 inch black fans were quite expensive, until I discovered this option on Amazon. I have been happy with the purchase as it displaces alot of air and goes well in my room.

If you are looking for an affordable, 52 inch black ceiling fan, than this is your buy.

I bought this for an outside gazebo as it is wet rated. The price included a remote control which was a nice extra. The fan itself works very nicely.I would describe it as basic but It is very quiet and exhibits no wobble. Serves our purpose. Will have to see how well it holds up. Shipping was fast and reasonable.

I've had this fan for a little over a week now, and overall I'm very happy with the purchase. The fan provides very good circulation on all three speed settings, especially high and medium. It's very quiet too. Aside from the breeze you'd never know the thing was one. The design and color are sleek and it looks pretty cool.

My only complaint is the lights. The light sockets are candelabra style which really limits the types of bulbs that you can use. If you want to change the style or type of bulb you'll need to get adapters so that you can use regular light bulbs. The lighting is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.

Arrived much sooner than expected, got it in two days, if you live on the east coast don't pay for extra shipping! The description is misleading however, the fan blades are not "teak" they are plastic "teak looking". I was really excited to be getting a fan w/teak blades and estonished by the price. Still very good looking and good for the price. Can't wait to install for those hot summer days!

I've always been intrigued with the idea of a battery-less flashlight. I own a Nightstar "shake light", and even though it does not give off much light I appreciate the fact that it is a nigh-invulnerable back up to my other lights. When I read about this light with its "ultra" capacitor, I thought it would be a great item to have on hand for Cub Scout outings, power outages, etc. especially since my kids could use it without running any batteries dead!

After trying it in my dark garage at night, I'm disappointed. After a couple of charge/discharge cycles (more playing around with the crank than anything) I wound it for a full 2 minutes, and watched the light produced by the Quasar LED (spotlight mode). It was initially very bright and usable, but faded quickly. After 3 minutes, it was down to about 50% of the original brightness. After 10 minutes, it could not cast light far enough to reach the far wall of my garage. I wound it up again for 2.5 minutes and tried again with the 3 Starcore LEDs (flood mode)with similar results. The manufacturer claims up to 15 minutes of usable light, but I found that it does not meet my definition of "usable".

Additionally, it is uncomfortable to wind. The handle is a bit short. Unless you have large hands, it is difficult to hold on to the housing while you turn the crank. Because of the combination of short crank, and the torque needed to turn the crank, your fingers get tired of holding the unit. The handle is on the back of the unit, so you also end up covering the light with your hand while you hold the case during cranking. Lastly, the handle is recessed during storage, and would be difficult to locate in the dark (when you would need it the most).

It's a great idea that just doesn't work as well as I'd like it to.

bought this and took it for camping for a tent light. Works for about 10 minutes on a 2 minute wind. Three setting, pretty good lighting, very durable, glows in the dark, can be hung from overhead, or attached to your vest. Not bad, but could be cheaper.

I have to agree with the review by Mark Leedom. The usable light doesn't last anywhere near as long as the manufacturer states (about 5 mins max). Having said that I have used similar flashlights before and knew this to be the case before I bought this, so I'm semi happy with my purchase. I wanted something for absolute emergency and unfortunately this is the best there is at the moment!

Honest reviews on LightStorm SL1 Crank LED Flashlight and Lantern

I've always experienced situations where a flashlight is needed and the batteries are worn out or chargeless, tired of that, I decided give it a try to this flashlight because the most notable feature is its absence of batteries. 2 minutes of cranking can charge the light up to 15 minutes but will be noticeable a dimming of 50-60% in 4 min. So, if you intend of use it for a prolonged time interval, you have to cranking it 40 seconds each 5 min. or 8 min. Of course is, the flashlight mode (highest power) will deliver less time of full light output. As another reviewer stated, when flashlight have a prolonged storage time, you have to cranking for 6 min to 7 min to get maximum performance or capacitor will discharge quickly. The flashlight mode deliver a pretty bright light output during 3 minutes.

I have been through many shake and crank flashlights over the years. The biggest disadvantage in my opinion has been the method of storing the charge produced: batteries. If not properly maintained, batteries will degrade.

Nightstar solved this issue with the use of capacitors to hold the charge. And I'm glad that LightStorm chose to go this route, too. This light can be thrown in a glovebox for years, and will still function as it should when needed.

As to other reviewer's and their short usable light times, the capacitor needs to be initially charged for a much longer crank time than 2 minutes. I contacted LightStorm, and they recommended at least 6 minutes for the initial crank time, and the same if it hasn't been operated in a long time.

After an initial 6 minute crank and a few tests, I did a 2 minute crank and used the light to read by in total darkness. I was able to read by it for 28 minutes.
