This light is simply the best of the best, as a firefighter we need to have the power to cut through the smoke and boy does this light have power, and some to spare. The tight beam is also great for cutting through the smoke and not getting dissipated so fast. This light is also incredibly durable. The one I currently have on my gear has a crack running the length of the head (the part you turn to turn it on) so I thought for sure it was going to break soon, but no that was not the case. Today I was working on a two story building for a training evolution, when the light came unclipped from my pocket and fell through the hole I had just cut, down two floors onto solid concrete. We all thought the light was a gonner, but when we got to the basement there it was just as happy as could be. Worth every penny.

I already own a SabreLite 2010 model that provides LED light with a runtime of 50 hours. In comparison, this Xenon bulbed 2000 model costs about half as much as the 2010, but only offers 5 hours runtime. More damningly, the Xenon light used here provides a yellowish tinge that reminds me of an old Maglite incandscent. It also does not appear to be as bright as the 2012 LED, even though the same lumens rating (33 L) is claimed for both. The casing is sturdy enough and is all plastic, which is ideal for many workplace regs. Note the light should not be used for deep diving as the water rating is only good up to a few meters. The twist on / off feature has its pros and cons if you are going to store the light in a bag where other items might cause the head to twist, you might want to take the batteries out to avoid accidental activation, especially with the short run time here.Honestly, I don't see the appeal of this light. If you want something just as rugged but brighter and with 10 times more runtime, get the model 2010, even though it costs more. The money you save in C cells will soon offset the higher purchase price! Xenon in theory offers better color diffrentiation than LED, but the dim yellowish light offered by the 2000 seems to offer more liabilities than assets.
If you want to stay in the $30 range, and don't mind a Chinese made metal body light, get the Fenix E21 Fenix E21 154 Lumens Flashlight which has dual output settings, both of which modes are brighter than the Pelican 2000 or 2010 (54 & 170 lumens) and the 54 lumen setting offers an 8 hr runtime.
