I've purchased two or three of these locally and only now find out that they are designed to use a single D cell. NOWHERE on the packaging (there are no "instructions") does is say what size battery and how many to use.

Normally this would not be a problem as you would think it would be designed to not accept the wrong batteries.

The handle on these flashlights is "standard" length .. so, from the outside, you would think it takes two D cells. However there are four fins built inside the bottom of the light, and a very large spring sits on top of them. You cannot put two D cells in this.

What you can fit, just, are two C cells. THAT is what I have been using. The light is nicely bright, but the flashlight that I have been using most has stopped working (aparently from overvoltage) .. and now I discover that I should have been using a single D cell instead.

Since this flashlight is designed from the ground up to be a LED flashlight it has a beam pattern much better than using a replacement led bulb in a conventional flashlight.

It looked like the usual two D-cell flashlight but was selling for $1.67 at the local market and promised greater brightness, so I tried one out. Two D-size batteries did not fit and, on a whim, I tried with one it fired up immediately. The light is blueish, not the usual yellow-white of common flashlights, but is bright. The beam has a bright circle near the center and the light distribution is not uniform. This will likely improve as the optics are worked out.

Standard incandescent flashlight batteries (two D-cells) last a maximum of 24 hours (see ). If the promises are true, this LED flashlight will operate 40 hours with a single D-cell, for more than a 100% improvement. All for a very low price. I bought 3 of them to compare with the standard flashlight. If they pass the tests of time I'll convert over entirely.

The front of the packaging does state that it uses a single D-cell, but the print is so small that my older eyes strained to read it.
