I moved in to a new house in November 2012 and I've been going through the fun process of trying to get the lighting right in my kitchen. There are 6 recessed cans that came with 65W/130V incandescents (to meet some sort of "green" requirement). Since then I've experimented with several different CFLs (took too long to warm up), incandescents (reliable, but wanted a bit "whiter" light) and LEDs (expensive, color temp is too high for me) before arriving at halogens. I love the light temperature of these lights it is very pleasant, a great balance between the yellow-ish color of the ICs and the unnatural white of LEDs. My problem now is that I think I need to find halogen bulbs that are designed to be used in recessed applications (longer bulb with a wider head?), as I have some dark spots and shadows (my fault, not the bulb's fault). I've only had them in for a couple days but all 6 work and are compatible with my dimmer. I imagine that with some more shallow cans or even in a standard track they would be perfect. Will update if I have issues w/ longevity and quality.

Out ceiling fixtures have a narrow throat that these bulbs must fir through. With redesign to meet new efficiency standards many bulbs are a bit to large in diameter to fit easily into our fixtures. These bulbs fit and the price was right. Just the combination for us.

Bulbs were much more affordable than at the local hardware store, which were also burning out after only a few weeks. These have been in for a month or so and still performing as intended.
