Both have the same problem and they become useless. The return window expires so I spent the money for the 2 month usage. The most expensive flashlight ever. Nice product concept but the quality is not ready for the market.
Do not waste your money.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this product!I first plugged in this light on 12/25/12. I might have used it as a flash light twice. The other 99% of the time, it was simply plugged into a wall outlet and illuminated the dark room when someone entered. After two months of use, this light is now useless.
The flash light component no longer operates. Additionally, the motion detector component powers on when no one is in the room. It also blinks on and off about every two minutes. Too bad, I liked the induction charging, bright LED's, and nice looking outer design. But no matter how good it "looks", if it doesn't work, then it gets a one star. Too bad I can't leave a zero star.

Best Deals for Hipo By Ivation Multipurpose 15+5 LED Emergency Power failure Light
I usually don't write reviews but this product deserves it! I have had other emergency night lights in the past but this far exceeded my expectations and blew the other emergency light away at first! The other emergency night lights I had were either dead or defective right out of the box or would break after a few days! These only work for a few months! After a three months they only work as a night light and when the power goes off they are worthless one is completely dead when picked up and the other three are so dim they are useless in a power failure! Please beware! The sad thing is I cannot return them as it goes past the Amazon policy I will never buy from Amazon again I am cancelling my account!Honest reviews on Hipo By Ivation Multipurpose 15+5 LED Emergency Power failure Light
After just 1 month of light use the internal battery of the lights I bought are not holding any charge. The worst part is that at night when the lantern is on the charging base the front leds start to turn on and off as if motion is detected. That happens even on an empty room with no motion at all, so I suppose is a consequence of a bad quality or defective battery. The original manufacturer of this lights also made an old model which looks bulky and have a circle form top instead of elliptical. I owe 2 of those old lamps that have been installed at home 6 months now, and are working and holding the battery charge just fine.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Hipo By Ivation Multipurpose 15+5 LED Emergency Power failure Light
(#1 REVIEWER)UPDATE: 4/17/2013: I thought I was imagining it but now it's confirmed. This light has taken a dive in the deep end and is pretty much worthless as a reliable, automatic motion activated night light. It now has a mind of its own and randomly goes on and off 5 or 6 times in a row. then goes off again. It will begin this insidious behavior sporadically throughout the night, every night. It's not due to air currents or objects in the way. It worked fine the first few weeks but now is kaput. I see others are reporting similar behavior. So I'll leave my original review intact, because it really -wasa cool light. But now it's just another broken, cheaply made piece of plastic destined for the trash can.
---------
This light has 2 seperate arrays of LED's: a 15-LED array which compromises the nightlight/emergency light component and an additional 5-LED array at the end of the light which fulfills the flashlight function.
The 15-LED array will last several hours on battery power alone before needing recharging. If you use the 5-LED array instead, it will last maybe up to 12-15 hours. In both instances the brightess of the LED's will dim as the battery reaches a state of exhaustion.
The only control on the light is the on/off button. A single press of the button turn on the 15-LED array. A second press turns on the 5-LED array. A third press turns off the light completely. Note that only one or the other of the LED-arrays is lit at any time. They do not both light simultaneously.
When the light is inserted in the base unit and the base unit is plugged into an AC outlet, the 15-LED array will immediately turn on in the event of power interruption to the base unit. Walk over to the base and grab the light and you've got emergency light and a flashlight in hand.
The other feature is its nightlight function. The 15-light array will light up automatically when in a darkened room as soon as motion is detected. It will stay on for 20 seconds, or as long as motion is still detected, otherwise it shuts off automatically. Unfortunatley that feature only worked correctly for a month. Now when it goes on the first time, it goes off in 20 seconds then gets stuck in a cycle of going on and off on its own for 6, 8, 10 times or more before it finally stops.
It's also possible to leave the nightlight on all night as the light will be charging during this time as well. And if you find the light too bright facing outwards, you can simply turn the light around in the base so that it faces the wall which then casts a softer more diffuse light.
I've got this installed under a bedside table in my bedroom. It was great for illuminating your way out of the bedroom for those little trips you sometimes have to make in the middle of the night. Being under the nightstand, it doesn't disturb anyone else who might be sleeping in the same room, yet provides ample light to help me find my way. But as I said, after a month, it now goes on and off repeatedly until at some point it will go off, until it decides to cycle on and off again, all by itself.
You should make sure that the base unit is not directly above or near a heating/cooling duct as you may get unwanted activations. Sensors can be tricked to go on by air movement. But in my case it isn't in near heating or cooling ducts and it goes on and off all night long randomly.
I was provided a sample for review.
