Over the years I've bought a number of landscaping lights. Often I find them rather cheap and flimsy plastic/metal and the bulb sockets are not durable. Additionally, they often leak water into the unit. In short, I've not been very satisfied.

I am extremely satisfied with this Paradise light. It is made of sturdy aluminum casted metal and has a ruggedness I've generally not seen in reasonably priced landscaping lights. The unit comes with a metal stake, but a great feature was I did not use the stake for my installation and was able the screw the unit into my conduit lighting system, a nice option for my particular installation. Also, it comes with about a foot plus of wire with connectors for connecting to landscaping wiring. In my case I cut off the plastic connectors as my lights are wired directly into a conduit system and I had plenty of wire length for this.

The hood/lens assembly is rugged and screws nicely onto the base. The adjustment provides a nice range of positions from practically straight up to just about fully down. I use these for up-lighting under trees. They are the best I've ever used.

The baked on finish on the aluminum casting housing is well done and these lights look like they will last a long time.

I also really like the bulbs. These are bright 50 watt halogen bulbs and the reflector is part of the bulb. The spot is full and very nice.

We had a very very heavy rain storm since I installed these and they did not leak one drop of water into the unit.

I give these units my highest rating. I am extremely pleased with them.

I have been experimenting with outdoor lights + led bulbs for a while an think I've found the best setup using this as the housing.

This has a 50w bulb that comes with it, that will suck a ton of power from your transformer.

If you pair it up with this bulb

LED MR16 Spotlight 12V 3.8W (300 Lumen 35 Watt Equivalent) Halogen Replacement Bulb 2900K Warm

(the best one I've found color and intensity wise)

You get almost a 50w bulb (probably more like a 30w conventional) for 3.8w

That means you can run about 12 lights and consume the same amount of power as the original 50w.

Buying the two together will be ~$26, which is much cheaper that the equivalent Kichler (Kichler will be better, but 4-5 times the price).

The light housing itself is very solid feeling and has a very deep shade which helps to keep you from getting blinded when walking/driving by the light at night.

I'd give it 5 stars if they had an option to pair it up with the LED to begin with.

For a better price than a junky plastic LED light, I bought these Aluminum gasket lens high quality lights, threw away the MR-16 Halogen bulbs that came with them and purchased these LED bulbs: LED MR16 3200K Warm White Spotlight 12V 4W (340 Lumen 50 Watt Equivalent) 60 Degree Beam angle and the combo worked GREAT. Lots of light, 4 watts each which allows a smaller transformer and longer run of wire, and a high quality fixture that I expect to last for years.

Honest reviews on Paradise GL22720BK Low-Voltage Cast-Aluminum 50-Watt Halogen Spot

These are nice fixtures and can fit the new LED bulbs whereas other fixtures don't have the clearance.

Size:

The light housing has plenty of space between the internal plug and the glass lens.

The extra space inside allowed me to use my LED lights made by Torchstar since they were too big to fit in my Malibu metal spot fixtures.

Water Resistance:

The seal around the glass was not water tight. Due to the angle of my light, facing virtually straight up, I had to drill a small drain hole as water was pooling in the bottom of the inside of the fixture.

I could probably use a bit of silicon around the edge of the glass and rubber gasket to make the unit more water resistant.

Spike:

The spike that the unit uses to hold it in place in dirt looks like painted steel with holes in it. I'm sure the spike will last a few years, but I'm not sure how long it will be until the spike eventually begins to rust and eventually rusts out.

Mounting:

The nice thing about the fixture is the threaded section of the black pipe that screws into the spike

The threads on the black pipe thread perfectly on an exterior electrical box. Same thread as the light fixtures on a set of exterior spot light. I threaded one of my boxes to an electrical box and used a locking nut inside the box on the threads to lock the shaft in place when mounting one of these spots on an exterior wall of my garage.

Fixture:

The fixture is made of metal, possibly cast. Appears strong and durable. Adjusting the fixture is really easy with the thumb turn plastic lock

Electrical Connection:

The unit comes with a clamp-down piercing electrical connection box. You simply unscrew the 3 screws and insert the wire in the correct channel and then tighten the screws to pierce the wire.

I liked the fact that the wire was copper instead of the cheap aluminum wire in some unit today. I prefer soldered connections so I spliced the wire to the circuit wire, soldered the connections and then used the rubber dip stuff that you can make handles for tools with to seal my connections. I re-coated my connections 3 times to make tough rubber seals over my soldered connections. I use to use the piercing connections on landscape lighting but they start getting temperamental after a few years as corrosion or loose clips come into play. Soldered and sealed connections never fail.

Overall these are nice exterior lighting fixtures and I'm glad I made the purchase.

like many other reviewers on here, I rarely leave feedback. I chose to for this product to help another customer like me, who was unsure whether to order or pick them up at a local hardware dealer. Trust me, you will NOT find these lights at your local hardware dealer for this price. Malibu lights may last one year at best, and I can almost guarantee at some point you will be making the trip outside to get them working again because the wiring came undone. These are durable lights and are very bright.....Why buy 5 10 watt malibu lights for $15 each and junk up the yard versus 2 50w at half the cost.....Thats why i chose these lights. You will not regret it....
