I bought this to sort-out the wiring in a building where all the wires had been removed from the circuit box. With this tool and an extension cord, I reliably traced all the wires (and found a couple of shorts). The voltage testing seems to work as advertised. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase. The tool seems well-made and solid. I recommend.

This does everything one at 3 times the price does. Only draw back (not really) is that you need batteries, some do not. Love it keep it in the truck always.Best Deals for Klein Tools ET200 Electronic Voltage/Continuity Tester
bought one last year in march. in august 2012 it just stopped working.had it replaced and just last week it almost got me in trouble.
the LED light worked fine as i was checking for voltage at work.
i had checked voltage at a j-box and thought it was dead. did some
more tracing but then noticed that a fan plugged into the same circuit
was still on. i checked a few other outlets and still no reading.
used my second tester and behold, it was still live.
about to throw it in the trash. i miss the old "wiggy."
my rep however told me they no longer make it.
so i just went with the Ideal version. Glad someone still makes them.
there's nothing like a good ol' fashion solenoid type. ive seen them
last for years. and maybe i just got "unlucky" twice.
i also dislike that the LED light can easily be turned on even by accident
stay safe
Honest reviews on Klein Tools ET200 Electronic Voltage/Continuity Tester
A good piece of equipment. The sound it makes when you use it is a step up from my old, silent Ideal Volcon meter which only used lights and vibration. This is a very good product for a fair price. It seems to be extremely sturdy too. (I don't like the little caps which you have to put on the tips to protect them, and the Volcon used retractable tips to accomplish the same, but I think these tips will outlast the others as they are less likely to wear out.)A quality product.

I really expected more from Klein Tools, as they are usually of very high quality, but this tester was a huge disappointment. I purchased this tester to replace my Ideal tester that lasted 20+ years (and still works except the probes are shot). Right away, i noticed problems. First. the probes only come with small removable caps to cover the tips instead of a retractile sleeve or silo to store them in, of course they get lost very quickly. Second, the button that turns on the built in LED light isn't recessed so it turns itself on accidentally while inside a tool bag or box, draining the batteries. Third, there is no solenoid in the tester the sound & vibration alerting the presence of voltage, is powered by the batteries, so if they are dead (which happens a lot due to the above problem) the only indication are the lights. Not good if you are use to a solenoid type tester and cannot be used for remotely tracing a circuit. Lastly, the cover that has the voltage values on it came off and as it is only stuck on with an inferior adhesive. Other than that it seems well made.If Klein included a case with the tester it would take care of the first two problems and make the third less of an occurrence. Of course better adhesive is needed for the cover.
Unless you intend to keep this tester in a drawer for occasional use I would avoid purchasing it.
