I replaced my cheap-to-buy but expensive-to-run mercury vapor bulb with one of these fluorescent bulbs last summer. Works great, instant start and nice bright white light covers a large area of the yard. In the 12 months since then I have saved almost $70 in power costs compared to the original bulb, running 24 hours a day (too difficult to fit an automatic daylight switch, so I just leave it switched on) at 8.93 cents per Kw hour. You can expect these to last 2 years if you only run them at night.
NOTE: The mercury vapor lamp housings use a special oversized screw base (Mogul style) and include a ballast inside the fitting. You CANNOT simply replace the original bulb with a fluorescent type, and must use one of these instead.

This 65 watt light will only last about two years (8,000 hours) under normal use still a savings over using a 175 watt mercury vapor bulb which lasts sometimes 10-15 years I would not recommend using in any area where the bulb will be hard to replace. Light working great with as much light as before, if not more.Replaced old 175w mercury vapor light with Lights of America Fluorescent light bulb. I have it on a dusk to dawn light fixture , and it has been on for about 3 months now.

The very FIRST night I put this light in it blew! What the ?!?! Not Happy. If you do your homework this light is known to blew in a few days to a few months. Consumer Reports listed as DO NOT BUY! Very unsafe and it'll blow up fast. Look at Ace Hardware.com website it has a 1 star rating. All six reviews there list it as poor with the light lasting only a few days to weeks. I even called the company to ask what the problem is. The person speaking barely spoke english! He said ohhh nodthing is wong it's ok. : URG!DO NOT BUY THIS BULB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a mercury vapor fixture. The original vapor bulb lasted about 30 days. I replaced it with the Lights of America mercury vapor buster that I found at Home Depot. It lasted over 5 years and I calculated it saved me about $150 over the 5 year period. The light output is not as bright as the mercury vapor. Overall I am very happy with the bulb. I couldn't find one at Home Depot this time so I am searching the web for it.
