they are for looks or marker, but definately not for lighting up an area. i have four in a four by four area, one in each corner and thought i would get some light of them being so close, nothing.

It came with two screws to hold it in place on the fence post, but it fit so perfectly and snugly, that I opted not to use the screws. Of course, as with any yard ornament such as these, you couldn't read by them, but it gives off beautiful ambient light.

These lights are gorgeous! They are on as soon as the sun goes down and stay on for at least 9 hrs. Love them!

This light is very good for the price. It does not illuminate an area very well, but does throw off a lot of horizontal light. I think if they had designed it differently, it would illuminate the area better. If you are looking to light up a gate or fence post, this will work very well.

These lights work well and are attractive. The price was right and when they quit functioning we intend to order more.
