I figure most people who buy this have a pretty good understanding how they are going use it.

It seems however that there is always a catch or glitch to a perfect or universal or any surface product and that is the same here. For me those are:

Only operable by remote

Can only cut the last piece to fit

Cannot use screws for mounting

Only comes in white

Adhesive is a little weak, especially on a textured surface

Shares remote codes with Yamaha recieversMOST Unexpected, volume up and down affect the light

I was able to complete my project despite these limitation and would say "It depends" if I was asked whether or not I would recommend this product.

I got these lights at Costco for an excellent price like another reviewer did.

Having just assembled a new ten-foot wall of storage for our family room, I needed to add accent lighting since that has always been a dark corner of the room and the new shelves are very tall which only adds to the shadows. I found some great options on Amazon, but I opted to visit my local Costco first. I found these to be a great bargain, plus noted they were expandable (via add-on modules purchased online with a special Costco discount code) which meant, if I liked them, I could extend the run to cover the entire 18 foot run of shelves I wanted to highlight. (One shelf stretches across the entire 10 foot unit, wrap around, then the next lower shelf ends after an 8 ft linear run.)

I didn't stick the lights up yet, but just wove them onto the shelf supports to get an idea of the effect of the lights. Great! I decided right then and there to order the accessory Sylvania 72349 LED Expansion Kit for Mosaic Flexible Light to expand my Sylvania Mosaic system into the full 10 strips (or 20 feet of LED lights.)

The Costco packaging made reference to a particular purchase website, but I always check Amazon for price comparison. Lo and behold, here I found listings and reviews for the product. This is where I discovered the remote control problem. Not only did a couple of people have tv remotes that affected their lights, but someone WITH THE SAME BRAND OF RECEIVER AS MINE (Yamaha) had the problem. I turned on the tv and adjusted the volume... Yep. My cool new lights turn to fancy party colors (always goes to color) and often begin one of the color shift patterns (fade, strobe, etc.) when I adjust the volume on my A/V system, powered by a Yamaha receiver. Bummer.

I might swap out these lights for an IKEA set of LEDs I have in a different room (a room with no tv!) On the other hand, my kids think the color change is pretty awesome, and it isn't disturbing or distracting to me while I watch tv, because I decided to just let it do its thing for an hour last night to find out if it would bother me. I may just accept this goofy flaw as a silly easter egg and have a more techni-color family room tv-viewing experience. (Without this problem, I would likely just leave the lights on white all the time. I bought these for price and convenience, not for the color-changing option.)

If I hadn't been so eager to get lights up right away, and also feeling like spreading out the purchase costs be getting a starter set then adding expansion modules, I was leaning toward this set instead Super Bright LED Under Cabinet Lighting Set of 10 Panels, 2 Power Supplies, 2 Switches! Cool White Dimmer Switch Option Available (See Items 4864 and 4845). Factoring in shipping costs AND MY COSTCO PRICE ADVANTAGE, the prices work out to be pretty similar per lighting set, though I'm getting a longer run of lights with the Sylvania (10 panels or 20 feet), but much better flexibility in cables and connectors (and overall expansion options) with the Inspired LED product line where I would have ten panels but only 7.29 linear feet. The Inspired LED products might be brighter--I haven't tested these in person, only browsed their product offerings.

If Sylvania Mosaic offered a range of connectors in different lengths so I could go from one row of shelves to another with a glowing vertical line, I would definitely overlook the goofy remote control issue. There are only 4" connectors available for the system. (You may also directly connect one LED strip to the next and omit the 4" wire connectors. They are for use where a tight bend would be detrimental to the light strips longevity.)

If you have a straight run and want the color change option, consider these lights. Also, if you have access to Costco, you'll save about 11% over Amazon prices, so these get a little more attractive. If you have a more complex layout and want options such as longer wire connectors or screw mounting instead of sticky tape, consider a more full-featured light system such as Inspired LED or another of Amazon's many options.

THese lights are perfect in every way. Accented our kitchen to a beautiful and modern look. We did not expect them to look so good. Now we want to do our whole house. THe coolest thing is the slight changes you can do with the color. There is mutiple color variations you can do with a click of the remote control. Also you can have it slowly change to all the colors in the rainbow slowly fading into the next color. Very modern and high tech look to any room or business. Now we can't wait to get more and do it around our bed base and also in the bathroom. We searched around and Amazon has the best price!

Purchased as a fancy night light for daughter scared of dark. Worked well, easy to install (adhesive is weak as others pointed out, but we supported the strips with picture hangers). Kid loved it. However, after less than 3 months of use, it stopped working. Replaced remote control's battery, but the little green light of the remote control does not come on (yes, we checked the battery orientation). We did not keep the receipt or the box so we cannot return it should have known better. A replacement remote is sold separately by amazon.com (search LED and remote) for less than $5, but one should not have to buy one after just 3 months. Great product, but was expecting better quality. I would give it two star if my daughter did not love it so much.

These are an incredible bargain. The colors are incredibly intense and the white is pure. You can have the lights on steady for one color of your choice or you can let it scroll through its colors on its own! You can adjust the light intensity when its on single color mode. On the mode that scrolls through its colors you can adjust the speed from slowly fading colors to rapidly changing colors. Its a pretty neat light. We used them under our cabinets and love them.
