UPDATE 6.20.2013: Two things I think I mistakenly informed a fellow amazon buyer who had a question about this light. Actually, it appears the on/off switch does NOT control the night light, but only the round lower emergency light. The other thing is that I discovered the upper light, the night light, has totally burned out after 15 months or less of usage since I bought this light new. That's not good longevity, and I don't believe the bulb is replaceable. I'm downgrading my review from a 5 star to a 2 star. It's a great design, but only 15 months for the night light? That is not good quality.

MY ORIGINAL REVIEW:

This one is really going to amaze you! It is a very compact little package that plugs into an 2-outlet wall unit, or into an extension. If using the wall outlet be advised it covers both outlets.

As a nightlight the Globe security light turns on automatically at dusk, or stays on constantly in a room that is dark 24/7. As a power outage security light it lights up when the power goes off, as in a storm or other disruption of service. As a flashlight just pull it off the wall and slide the switch to "on". 3 lights in 1.

What REALLY makes this unit so nice is the 3 NiCad AAA sized batteries included in the compartment at back. This is MUCH better than a solid-wired battery found in other emergency lights. When those burn out the entire unit is bad and must be thrown away. But not with the Globe, which allows you to remove two screws, pull out the 3 NiCad batteries and replace with 3 new NiCad or 3 new NiMh rechargeable AAA batteries. That is GREAT engineering!

I've just started using the Globe 3 in 1 light and I'll update with more information if necessary. So far, two thumbs up!

COMMENT: After posting this review I noticed the picture is correct, but the measurements provided by amazon (see listing) are TOTALLY WRONG. Here is the actual size: Length: 4 3/4" X Depth 1 7/8" x Width 1 3/4"

I was looking for an inexpensive nightlight that would also double as an emergency light when the power goes out at night. This Globe product fits the bill perfectly.

The nightlight is quite bright (for a nightlight), white, and dispersed 180 degrees. The emergency light is a single LED that isn't quite as white as the nightlight and not as widely dispersed, but it's adequate as a small flashlight or emergency lighting to be able to find your way from room to room in the dark.

There is an on/off switch on the side that controls the emergency light/flashlight. When plugged in normally, this essentially controls whether the emergency light comes on automatically when the power goes out. Leaving the switch on is handy for when the power goes out at night so you can see your way around; not so handy if the power goes out during the day (when you don't need a light) and you're not home to turn the switches off and save the batteries. Of course, that's the case with any emergency light, not just this product. There is a small red LED on the front of the unit that is lit when the light is plugged in, but it doesn't light when the power goes out. So you can't easily find the thing in the dark if the power goes out and you have the switch set to off.

The rechargeable batteries supposedly give two hours of light. I haven't tested that. The batteries are replaceable by opening the battery compartment with a jeweler's screwdriver.

I have had three of these lights for a few years and no problems with any of them. At least one other review mentioned the nightlight didn't last very long, but I've not experienced that problem with any of my lights.

My only quibble with this product is that the electrical prongs are located 1 3/4 inches from the end of the unit. That's a considerable distance, so much so that when the unit is plugged into a standard two-outlet household receptacle, the unit partially covers the other outlet and you can't plug in another appliance. If you're already scrambling to find enough outlets for all your electrical gear, this thing taking up two outlets when it actually uses only one won't make you happy. You may have to resort to using a tri-tap with this, which seems a very jerry-built way of doing it.

GIVES A BRIGHT NIGHT LIGHT AND A GOOD FLASHLIGHT BEAM WHEN THE POWER FAILS. HAD TO RETURN 2 OF THE LIGHTS THAT DID WORK PROPERLY AND THEY WERE PROMPTLY REPLACED. WELL WORTH THE HASSLE BECAUSE THE LIGHTS ARE WORTH IT.

I bought this power-failure light for my kitchen -Who wants to have their kitchen go pitch black from a power failure right while they're taking something scalding hot out of the oven??? It turned out I also liked having the LED nightlight feature in my kitchen, but after only 2 years, the nightlight LED has grown quite dim. Now I worry the power-failure light might not work if I need it. I bought this model because its rechargeable batteries are replaceable, however the LED is not.
