6x Illuminated Magnifier/ Lighted Magnifying Glass 2 1/2" LensSeveral years ago, I bought a lighted x6 magnifying glass that I found super-useful in my car because it was a good flashlight too. I lost it somewhere. I can't find it anymore at the website magnifier.com where I bought it years ago. I bought several lighted magnifiers from them this month, but they are flimsy, and the light control is poorly functioning. Empirically, I find that 6X is optimal. The standard 2X is not enough, and the little x4 or x6 insert in most magnifiers is inadequate. 10X or greater at higher prices definitely yielded no functional advantage. This one is an OK compromise but the LED light is harsh, and the item is not bright enough to use as flashlight. Now, I have an open order for the only other tungsten-lighted one: 6x Illuminated Magnifier/ Lighted Magnifying Glass 2 1/2" Lens. But I'm unhappy about the $5.49 shipping charge for an item that costs $7.99.

The lens has a lot of distortion. Magnification of 12X is completely wrong. It's about 4X or 5X at the most.

However, the LEDs are bright and the handle is easy to hold.

We take road trips regularly and were planning to use this lighted magnifier to read maps when our GPS was not directing us correctly. We were disappointed in the amount of viewing area you can see through the lens. I would look for one with a larger lens.
