For the last two years I have been desperate due to heat issues in my home office to replace the Feit Electric BPXN50MR16/GU10/2 Xenon MR16, 120-Volt, GU10 Base lights I have used from Amazon. They are great except I have 14 of them on ceiling strips and while the strip lighting and lamps looks great I have huge heat issues.

Am in Phoenix and very hard to cool the office below 80 without air set at too cold 73 from control in next room which is partly open into the office. Even with cooler nights with large patio doors open and 2 fans blowing in cool night air about 70-75 but still hard to get office below 80 without air conditioner making too cool in main part of house.

Did an energy audit with heat measuring gun... those halogens as they are known for have lots of radiant heat which is main office heat issue. I also have five 23" Samsung monitors which radiant some heat but nothing like from the halogens.

For the last 2 years have searched for equivalent LEDS I need the amount of light from my 14 50 watt halogens. Until recently seemed to get close to 50 watt equivalent cost was about $100 each but recently prices dropped and got one (Aeon Lighting) ALTLED Aurora is what the box says, 7 watt to test as an alternative.

On the Aeon/ALTLED box it says 1 watt LED = 9 watts regular so in theory 7watt ALTLED = 63 watt halogen? Or is there a different equivalency to halogen. But in research find different ratios.

But the FEIT Xenon Halogens say, "whiter, brighter, cooler"

Test results:

ALTLED almost no radiant heat although bulbs hot to touch but not as burn fingers hot as with FEIT halogens. But other problems.

ALTLED is a very HARSH INTENSE pure white. Very odd looking huge different color than the other FEITs on the strips. Too harsh. I now note on the Aeon site they show they also have warm and soft white which Amazon didn't show as options. Not sure if warm or soft is closer to the FEIT's that I can't find their kelvin temp but see that halogens are 3000K and the ALTLEDs are about 6000k which I think is the big color difference.

ALTLED 7 watt does not seem as bright as the 50 watt FEITs. It is hard to try and compare Luman stats since as I understand it depends on how far away measure and especially hard to compare LED to Halogen Lumans from what little I have found.

In my research I have a note that 50 watt halogen produces 880 lumans. But the 7 watt ALTLED 7 watts are only rated at 350 maximum and from their website the warm and soft whites are even less.

I may need to try to find a 7watt LED but with a 3000K temp to compare to current FEIT Halogens. At least we are getting close it seems at a more reasonable price.. Feit halogens are 2 for I believe $8.99 vs $24.99 each for these LEDs but am willing to pay for less radiant heat. And not the $100 each I found a few months ago.

If LEDs make it to 8 or 9 watts that would really be nice and bright! Some may but I need a MR16, G10 base and running on 110v AC.
