i have a hanging light where a normal bulb was too blinding. i bought both this bulb and the G25 Globe style. The "standard" bulb shape of this one results in more of the un-chromed part being exposed, depending on the fixture. this style is probably a better fit for a deeper fixture, where as the G25 Globe style is better for a shallower fixture.
the bulb feels much sturdier than a standard bulb, which is good, given the extra price.

I ordered six of these bulbs for some down-light fixtures I installed myself in my room. They're great for reducing glare since the downlights have silvered trim backing so there's plenty of reflected, rather than direct light coming out of each fixture. I ordered these 100W light bulbs because reflected light will be lower intensity than direct light. If you intend to replace 60W standard bulbs with silvered bulbs, I recommend these the light output was more than enough. However, the quality control of manufacturing leaves something to be desired. Without even installing the bulbs, I could see that there were scratches on the outer bulb surface that did not go away with cleaning the bulbs. Once installed, it became obvious that their quality controls do not care about:
* scratches in the chrome silvering (which is inside the bulb.. no way to damage it on the outside)
* pin-hole defects in the chrome silvering
* variable thickness of the silvering that allows for varying amounts of reflection/visibility of the filament.
One bulb's chrome was thin enough that when the I turned the bulb brightness all the way up on the dimmer, I could see the filament through the chrome. It's a pleasing effect, but I'd rather have all the bulbs be that way, or all the bulbs have completely reflective chrome as a set. In any case, this variability of thickness doesn't seem to be on purpose, their manufacturing specs are just too forgiving for the chinese.
I'm returning these and trying my luck with another manufacturer. I tried ordering some Halco bulbs as well, and the quality of the chrome was even worse (larger defects and scratches). It may be that no one really makes quality bulbs, but I'm going to check out my local hardware store next.
