These are very nice accent pieces for use around your home and garden. They are solar charged using an internal rechargeable battery that is replaceable. It has a small solar panel on the pole that must receive direct sunlight at least 8 hours a day for about 6 hours of use at night. They can stay lit to a little over 8 hours if they receive more sunlight. Make sure the solar panel is aimed at the sun to make sure it charges properly.
There is a sensor the turns the light on when it gets dark. If you have the unit mounted near a light that is on at night then the butterfly will not light up.
I am surprised at the price. We have purchased about 40 or more of these as gifts for friends and family and we paid 2 to 3 dollars for each one. This is a good product but the price is way too high!

This is a nice attraction to my flower. It lights up at dusk and changes colors and is so pretty.
