I purchased the Philips portable Guidelight so that I could light up my entryway ... and it does that very well. The installation can't be easier ... just plug teh unit in a wall outlet and let it charge ... one fully charged, you can use it as a guidelight. When I open my door it lights up giving me time to put my keys down and open a light. The sensor is only on the Base, so that works only when the light is being charged or is resting on the base. As for the guidelight itself if you want to use it as a flashlight, well, that is not what this is. It gives a soft glow which is strong enought to guide you but that's about it, though I must say it it very light. Having said that, I do like it and would recommend it.

Purchased to aid my mother (90 years old. The light is installed on the night stand next to the bed. She finds the light's motion senors most helpful in accessing her walker at night.

Wave your hand and the nightstand is illuminated, but not enough to blind. The battery backup is nice, although I don't really see using the thing as a portable lantern (it's not that bright).

I enjoy this light that comes on when I enter the bathroom and goes off automatically. Good for those middle of the night visits. Otherwise, it is a pretty weak light that might light up a closet, but not much more. Well built, it still works over a year later.

This light is attractive, portable, and, in principle, useful; however, the instructions are not detailed (for example: how long does it need to be charged? how can you tell if the motion sensor is on or off? ) and the motion sensor in mine is unpredictable, erratic (why does the lamp sometimes light up when there is motion and sometimes not? why does it sometimes take motion of the light itself (being lifted, shifted) to turn it on?). I like the object but not how it works, at least so far in my experience.
