For the price, definitely a 5 star purchase! Very effective and functional scuba flashlight, I am very happy with the underwater light output. Sure, the 'spotlight' models and some much more expensive models may work better (if you need top performance there are better ones out there, but no where near this price). Prior to this purchase, I was using a $85 spotlight and $65 LED model. I rarely use them anymore, and the output of these compares very well to both (I think better than my $65 one). Being that I don't rely on a flashlight, I see no need to spend too much on one. My approach, I bought one of these to test it out. I liked it so much I bought 2 more! At $9, not too much risk to buy one and test it out yourself.

The price was actually a 'turn-off' at first for me ... too cheap, won't last, will break? I feel like I struck gold on this one, probably the best value scuba item I've bought. Of the 3 I have, I've used the original purchase about 15 dives myself, at least two dives a max depth of 100ft, and half of the dives have a max depth of 66ft or more. The light output is very effective, and works well in a couple cave dives I like to do off Maui. The second one I loan to dive buddies, probably have 7 or 8 dives on that one. No issues yet. To be safe, I did put silicon grease on the o-ring/threaded area to ensure a good seal.

OVERALL:

Light is plenty bright and waterproofing works fine but this light required some fitting to get working. The overall build quality seems fair for the low price, with cold solder on the circuitry and injection molding leftovers in the battery compartment. It is very inexpensive so don't be surprised by the bare-bones construction of this light's guts. It can be a little hard to open/close I have a pretty firm grip and it takes some cranking to fully seat the seal on this light.

PROBLEM:

The contact panel which directs current to the LED bulb was almost 90 degrees out of line. You will see this green contact board on the back side of the aluminum "plug" which positions the LED. It took me a moment to realize why the light wasn't working with brand new batteries... the circuit was incomplete due to improperly positioned contacts.

FIX:

A moment of studying the light showed that the two-groove "alignment system" should be at a 90 degree angle from the contacts (the large solder points), instead of nearly in-line as mine had arrived from the factory. So I popped out the circuit board, realigned it, and popped it back in. Since the contacts aren't marked and the first orientation didn't work (incorrect polarity), I opened the light up again, rotated the contact board 180 degrees, and popped it back in.

The fix requires no tools and takes only a moment.

This light is quite bright, waterproof, and cheap. I would not trust it for a cave diving expedition, but for snorkeling and using around the docks it will be just fine.

The light seems good, I purchased three, one was slightly different, had more of a yellow beam than the other two but just as bright (all around 100 lumens). The light seems pretty sound and has been on two dives with me as my primary light already. It's very bright, although some people may prefer more of a throw, for me the spotlight was fine and it gets thrown a bit in the water. One light I purchased you kinda have to fiddle with to get the Oring to sit right, but that's a minor complication. For the Price they are great lights, a must have for a back up or a good way to start night diving. I bought enough to always have two on me. Run time is outstanding, I tried to kill the batteries (cheap AA from cvs) and left it on for a good 3-4hrs, never died, and didnt even seem to dim. Using AA is a huge plus for me as well, they can be found anywhere for cheap, I use rechargeables. Thinking of trying the xml t6 version but I like the accessibility of the AAs, but my xml t6 headlamp is significantly brighter than these lights.

I read the reviews before I bought this and figured it was worth the low price since many people said they liked it. When I received it, I placed in the batteries and it didn't work. I fiddled around with it, rotating the light component around and eventually it worked. It was really bright and seemed water tight. I was pretty happy at first.

The next weekend, I took it with me to a dive site about 4 hours away. I tried it out as I was checking my equipment and it worked fine. I proceeded with my dive. The visibility was pretty good but I reached a deep overhang that I wanted to try out the light on and explore what was underneath. To my surprise, nothing! I rotated the switch back and forth and couldn't get any glimmer of light from it. I was in about 30' of water, so nothing extreme either. I had to just continue my dive without the light.

Later when I got home, I took it apart and everything was totally dry inside without a trace of water. I put the light back together and once again, it worked. This light MIGHT go with me again on another dive, but only as a test light to see if it would work again. In NO WAY would I rely on this light as either my primary or my secondary backup light.

I have now taken this light on over 60 dives and 13 of those have been to a depth of 100+ ft. Battery life has been good, I would say 4 to 6 hours and light output is impressive. I would recommend this light to anybody.
