These are just neat light bulbs. I threw them in our bathroom vanity and catch myself randomly staring at them when I brush my teeth admiring how cool the spiral filament is (I then do things like jam my hip into the sink afterwards as I can't see a thing once I look away; but that's not entirely the light bulb's fault now is it?). The light they put off is a bit more yellow/warm than your standard incandescent/CFL so consider yourself warned; but for most uses it's a very comfortable light color. All around great product, well made, and if you have a little extra money laying around to buy weird light bulbs I say go for it!

These ultimately do what Edison bulbs are supposed to do, but there are a few caveats to that:

1) If you are going to use a group of these together, say in a chandelier of sorts, the 40 watt is too bright. To be able to view the filament and just get that warm accent light you're going for, choose a lower wattage.

2) I noticed that some bulbs get a yellow tint on the glass right away, while other bulbs stay clear. I think this is due to a slightly lower quality bulb than others I've experienced. This matters because when the bulbs are off, you can see that yellow and it doesn't look that great.

3) The glass bulbs are not always straight and symmetrical on the bulb base. Some are angled slightly--just enough to be annoying. This is a pain in the rear when symmetry is important in your design.

Other than that, Edison bulbs are killer accent lighting and these fit the bill if you want that "look" on a budget.

Opened the box. Looked great. Screwed it into the lamp. Looks REALLY COOL. Nice light, great color. Touch the lamp to start putting the shade back on and the filament in the bulb separates and presto, no light. My wife thought I was pranking her because I had touched the lamp so softly she had not seen the contact. It lasted all of 1 minute before it went into the trash.

This Nostalgic Edison bulb is perfect. At 40 watts, when you turn it on, you can see the spiral filamentwhich is why I bought it.

This bulb is a great price and the quality is terrific.

We like these bulbs.

They fit well into our 110 yr old home.

Though we don't use them for reading, etc.

Only as visible accent lights in period ceiling fans and porch lights.

You would not want to cover them with a lampshade(what's the point).

Not to bright, but that's ok. If they were bright you wouldn't be able to look at them and notice the unusual vintage spiral filaments.
