This is my second one. The first one failed just after the warranty expired. The manufacturer recommends not running the device longer than a hour at a time. That it burned out so soon was likely attributable to over use. I like to run it before i fall asleep so i put the new one on a timer that turns it off in an hour. This laser projector gives you the effect of slowly twirling stars, drifting night clouds and even a shooting star or two. It's very relaxing to put this on at night and "chillax" after a long day. Add some New Age music such Liquid Mind VI: Spirit or White Arcades and you'll be drowsy in no time.

Some things to know: you need a dark room (duh!) and works best on a white ceiling (duh, again.) The instructions say not to run it longer than 4 hours and there is a shut off but I would actually not run it longer than an hour. You could use an automatic timer such as Simple Touch which runs an hour. Since you're likely to fall asleep, you might want to use a timer. I think the unit could have added a timer-shut off with a knob or buttons rather easily. It's a simple chip and a switch. And the motor makes noise, so it should be somewhere away from your head as you will hear it otherwise. The motor noise is pretty loud even across a room. Putting on music will help. I found it somewhat annoying when using this without background masking noise.

The central set of stars are rather bright; I found it a bit distracting. The blue foggy, drifting clouds are really beautiful, though the green stars have me a bit put off. Stars are white, blue, red but hardly bright green. I realize lasers come in only a few colors but the green is, well, not realistic. Neither would be laser red, so what can you do? It's still wonderfully pretty and after a while, you get used to the green stars. Changing the setting to "no clouds" (turn the knob down to lowest point) is actually very pretty, too. You get a darker night sky and more stars.

I actually found this for a far better price on another online site (almost half), so shop around if you're looking for one of these. Surely, it would be great for kids' bedtime, for parents establishing a bedtime ritual to insure compliance with nighty-night time.

Easy to use and works well even in a small room. The only caveat is that the fan is a little loud, so put on some good music!

I thought it was going to star light effects on the whole ceiling.

Instead it was only small area of 4 sq.ft
