I purchased the Rayovac 300lm (SE3DLN) lanterns last year, and I think they're great. But the Lighting EVER was cheaper, so I thought I'd give it a try, despite one reviewer indicating they weren't as bright. I'm glad I did because, IMO, it's every bit as bright as the Rayovac, and just as sturdily made. One tiny difference is that the 100% setting is the first switch setting on the Rayovac, while on the Lighting EVER it is the second. And yes, the Lighting EVER lantern employs one larger LED to the Rayovac's 3 smaller LEDs. But sitting side-by-side, both at their 100% power setting, the only noticeable difference is the diffraction pattern, not the intensity of the light. I think the Rayovac is a fine lantern, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. But I think the Lighting EVER lantern is just as good -and somewhat less expensive.

Okay I purchased this and 2 other lanterns the other two lanterns were Rayovac and very close to the same look as this one. I figured I liked the Rayovac but this cost less and who knows maybe it is better. First off this lantern has the tiny find me in the dark setting just like the Rayovac. It has the high setting and the low setting but wait there is more it has a strobe setting in which the highest setting flashes quickly it would be very good for changing a flat tire. Use one to see what you are doing and set the other one to strobe to warn cars that you are on the road.

Both take 3x 'd' sized batteries. This one comes in a box with clear instructions as to how to load the batteries and close the case. The rayovac did not have the instructions.

Both let you pull the clear top and hang it upside down but the tiny hook for hanging is a piece of cheap plastic so do not do it. This lantern has a single bright led. The rayovac has 3 leds. This is the brighter light on high setting. The rayovac has a better top handle it is metal as is this one but the rayovac has a rubber coating on the handle.

The Rayovac on high setting lasted 49 hours and then slowly but surely dimmed amazingly it is 96 hours and the rayovac on high setting still has some light. Since it claims 40 hours on high and 90 hours on low I do not know if this one can match it. Still the strobe is useful. Both lanterns feature the tiny blinking find me light I estimate this will force a yearly battery change like a smoke detector does. I highly recommend buying one of each. I will get back with the staying power on this light's high setting.

I USED EVEREADY GOLD ALKALINE Date of 03-2015 I purchased the package Dec of 2011.

I recently purchased the Rayovac Sportsman LED Lantern (SE3DLN) and the Lighting EVER LED Lantern, Ultra Bright 300lm, Home, Garden and Camping Lanterns and I must say that I really like the both of them. I tested them both using fresh alkaline D-cell batteries. Both are ruggedly constructed and both feel like they are built with quality materials plus they both diffuse the light pretty evenly. The only differences are: -The Rayovac Lantern has a rubber grip handle whereas, the Lighting Ever Lantern does not -The light diffuser on the Rayovac has a snapping or clicking sound when fully screwed into place and locks into place, the Lighting Ever does not but, it feels that it will not come loose while jiggling it around and will stay put -The plastic light diffuser on the Rayovac Lantern is noticeably thicker than the Lighting Ever Lantern thus, appearing to be able to take a little more abuse than the Lighting Ever's plastic light diffuser -The protective LED globe(or cap)within the light diffuser of the Rayovac Lantern is frosted so it's easier on the eyes, the Lighting Ever Lantern does not have a frosted LED cap thus, it is harsher on the eyes -The Rayovac has 3 LED lights vs the Lighting Ever's 1 LED light (the single Lighting Ever LED bulb is larger than any one of the 3 Rayovac's LED bulbs -The Lighting Ever IS slightly brighter than than the Rayovac. Rayovac's claimed specs on label: 240 lumens/ 40hrs run time on high (15 meter beam distance)/ 90hrs run time on low at 100 lumens (10 meter beam distance). Lighting Ever's claimed specs on the box: 300 lumens/ 72hrs run time on high/ 144hrs run time on low at 150 lumens/ 240hrs run time on strobe mode. My final conclusion is that both lanterns are great but if I had to choose one, it'll be the the Lighting Ever lantern because it is brighter than the Rayovac, it seems to be more efficient than the Rayovac since its single larger LED bulbs draws less energy than the Rayovac's slightly smaller three LED bulbs, the Lighting Ever Lantern came in a box protected in a bubble wrap bag (the Rayovac didn't) and, it costs less than the Rayovac Lantern. One thing I noticed though is that the Lighting Ever Lantern emitted a very slight high pitched keening hum. You can hear it when your close to it but, it is barely noticeable nor bothersome. Nevertheless, the Lighting EVER LED Lantern, Ultra Bright 300lm, Home, Garden and Camping Lanterns is a WIN WIN!

Honest reviews on Lighting EVER LED Lantern, Ultra Bright 300lm, Home, Garden

I used this at Burning Man (2012) and found it to be really helpful. It served as a light at night for our carport/shade area which was also our kitchen, and helped a lot when packing up at night before we left. One set of batteries lasted the whole trip (about a week) and we used it quite a bit at night.

It also has a little blinking green light that helps you locate it in the dark, and has a blink mode which would probably be great as a warning light if you were stuck by the side of the road, etc.

This lantern looks just like the Rayovac 300lm lantern on amazon. We ordered that one for $25 and we are very satisfied with it. Since this is a no name brand, I assumed it's the same lantern as the Rayovac and wanted to save a few bucks. Big mistake! This lantern says on label 300 lumen but in fact when compared side by side with the rayovac one, this one is about 1/3 less bright. I opened the lantern and was shocked to find out there's only 1 LED chip, versus the 3 LED chip Rayovac lantern. The single LED in this lantern is bigger than the individual LED chips in Rayovac model but the light output is definitely not as much ! Spend a few more dollars and get the rayovac one you would be glad that you did!
