a) It comes with velcro and magnetic mounts
b) It has a contact switch just brush your fingertip to turn on and off
c) It comes with (cheap) batteries but battery life is excellent
The only con is that the two-sided velcro tape (sticky on one side, velcro on the other) is pretty poor. The sticky mounts would come unstuck overnight. I went to TruValue and bought Velcro brand velcro and it works fine.
I'm buying more for other locations and to make sure I have spares.

It is now 2011 and they are still doing what I need. I have knocked them off with appliances without breaking and they get steam from the coffee pot with no problems.

Despite having three LEDs, this doesn't put out much light. It seems quite a bit less than a non-LED flashlight with 2 D cell batteries. The light is only about seven inches long and uses three AAA batteries. It has a touch switch which you just barely touch with your finger to turn it on or off. However, you need to touch it with a bare finger for the switch to work. A gloved finger won't operate the switch. UPDATE: The switch stopped working on my light after about a year of infrequent use. Had to throw the light out.The center plastic tube that contains the LEDs does swivel from side-to-side in either direction about 30 degrees to direct the light.
If you want a brighter LED battery light to stick somewhere, Energizer makes a round push light called the "Hardcase LED Area Light" (about $11). It is about 4" in diameter and heavier, but it puts out much more light (50 lumens) and lasts a long time (31 hours with 3 AA alkaline batteries). The Energizer light has a magnetic base, and it also comes with a metal plate that you can screw into to a wall or can mount on something with 3M two-sided mounting tape.

This is an attractive light with a capacitance switch. I use it in my home entertainment cabinet over my turntable, and it provides bright white light about 2 feet under the light, which is suitable to read a record label or jacket or to check for dust on the needle or other problems. It looks good and provides serviceable light. I have not seen any drawbacks to its design or function in the past three weeks.

I have two of these in my gun safe and one mounted underneath the cabinet where my microwave is. They are great for lightining an area for a bit. Mine are over a year old and work great, though they're not usually on for more than 5 minutes at a time or so. Just enought light to see to set the microwave at night, or get to this or that in a dark safe. I think they are great. I don't understand the bad reviews, but maybe folks think they should be able to replace plugged in light? I don't know. I think they're great for certain applications and recommend them.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Sylvania 36051 Silver Linear Dot It Portable LED Light, Silver
I bought this to use as a light inside a safe. Since it ships with a magnetic base option, it's perfect for this use. The light is activated by touching a spot on the clear plastic LED cover where two meetal pins protrude. Making contact with the pins turns the light on.The LED bulbs are housed in a tubular shaft that can be turned to aim the light as you prefer. Overall construction is good, and the design is a simple onegood for reliability!
I modified mine by replacing the white LEDs with Red ones, because I wanted to use the light at night without ruining my night vision. The unit comes apart easily, and snaps back together again. If anyone is planning on replacing the LED's like I did, the only thing I'd add is that you need to desolder the "on off pins" where they meet the circuit board, because this is what holds the board onto the clear plastic piece.
