I put 6 of these in my bedroom when doing a remodel, and had ordered 12, so I could add more if needed.

The room is 16'X16' and I put 3 of them spaced about 3.5 feet apart 20 inches from the wall down the sides of 2 walls.. PLENTY of light for the whole room. Puts out a GREAT warm Incandescent light glow when at full intensity.. When dimmed, they go a bit white in the color for my taste. Tempting to knock a star off for that actually. But, by far the best quality color of LED I have seen. Better than Halo, and a few other that the Home Depot, Lowes, Lamps Plus carried.

I'm amazed that I have a bright room for about 50 watts of power use. The price point is still a killer.

I also purchased some generic recessed can boxes to put these in that were made for another brand LED. They were only $9 each for new construction style. I just chopped off the plug on those, and chopped off the screw in bulb adaptor that these come with, and wire nutted them together. A good value at a total of $40 per hole for 4" LED can lights.

Zero noise when dimming, and dim down to a very low level before knocking out.

I LOVE the retention tabs they use for holding in the can too.. 3 tabs that stick out.. you just press it in to the hole. To remove, you twist counterclockwise and the tabs actually fold/retract and it falls out, rather than prying/dragging them out. Brilliant! Well designed product.. We'll have to see how long they actually last.

This retrofit kit by Cree updates your "can" recessed lights with a very clean look and the damp-proof frosted sealed glass cover. No incandescent bulb shining down on you with a center hot spot. Instead you get a broadly difused bright recessed light, with no vibration or blinking problems when dimming to the appropriate brightness. And they are cool, giving off practically no heat, a blessing in our hot Florida climate.

A word about brightness and color temperature. This kit produces more lumens than your typical PAR20 bulb. Hence at full brightness, you will think this is a whiter light, less like an incandescent. But if you dim it down to your PAR20 lumens, you will see little difference. In my "warm" colored living room, I have ten of these giving pleasing color and high lumens when needed.

The entire "look" is clean and sharp. And the retrofit kit, including the faceplate, looks like a 21st century lighting solution. I don't expect to change these, as they should last over 20 years.

In the old bulb setup, I got tired of getting out the step ladder, standing on the top step and balancing mid-air to unscrew and screw in a new PAR20 high-heat, short-life bulb. CFL (flourescent) PAR20 substitutes seem to take forever to get to full brightness. Meanwhile you are walking in a dark cave at night which can be dangerous.

This Cree Ecosmart kit is the perfect solution to great instant-bright lighting with no maintenance.

These work and look great. Really cleans up the ceiling appearance with a crisp look. The only reason that I didn't give them 5 stars is that when dimmed, there is a slight greenish hew. We have white walls and cabinets so it's more noticeable. There is also a slight hiss. You have to listen for it, not noticeable unless the room is perfectly quiet. I definitely recommend this product and would buy them again in a heart-beat. The quality is high, look is great, and savings on energy and over retail store prices makes these a stellar purchase.

Honest reviews on QTY 12 / Cree Ecosmart LED 4 " Recessed Light 9.5w 35,000 Hours

Just picked up one of the 4" models at Home D. a little cheaper there, but my first impressions are good. The unit fits standard HALO 4" recessed can with no issue. Bright as a mother. It's on a ckt with 12 other cans; those all have PAR20 halogens which have been dying with greater frequency (all those crap quality bulbs from Mex. and China). The entire ckt is controlled with a 1000W Lutron dimmer (though the CREE's tech support certifies them for use with "Crestron") and the whole circuit dims just fine all the way down to minimum levels. There are no buzzes or humming, only silence when dimming.

I called CREE to ask about availability of other colors; nothing in the pipeline yet, but who knows.

The net for first day use, very impressive. Manufacturer says "20+ years" of life based on some moderate usage stats (3hrs a day). Yet the warranty us for 3 yrs..We'll see. Anything is better than replacing with incandescant or halogen bulbs at the rate rate they were burning out. I will report back after a few months of regular use. The reviews on HD's site are quite positive also.

These are twice as bright as brand new 50w halogen MR16's I replaced them with. No joke.

(These Ecosmarts are the same ones sold at home depot.)

My recessed lights use GU10 connectors so I had to get GU10 to medium base adapters which have worked just fine.

The flood angle of these lights is very wide which can be good or bad depending on your needs.

I have a couple of these on a dimmer switch and they dim just fine and without flicker. I also have a couple on a timer switch with no problems.

The question with all LED's is longevity as they don't tolerate heat well. My first batch of seven I have used for about 3 months and show no signs of dimming or failure. I am using them in an airtight, IC-rated housing which is prone to heat buildup. I will update if anything changes.

Overall, these lights are totally worth getting if you want a lot of lumens, wide flood, and low wattage.
