Amazon shipped this item me very quickly and I installed it just today. Installation with this fan was trickier than others I had installed. There were too many screws, literally...I had screws left over and I followed the instructions precisely. The install took about 2 hours.

The fan is very quiet, and the light is sufficient. I wish the light could dim, but I knew it couldn't going into it. I'd check the Hunter website and make sure the blades co-ordinate with your existing decor...the website shows the true colors more accurately than Amazon's pictures.

Let me preface this with two items. First, I remodel homes as a hobby and have installed many fans in the past. Second, I have used Hunter products in several previous projects and been happy with them. I don't know what has happened at Hunter, but everything about their products have gone downhill. The instructions are horrible. One example, the drawing of many of the screws do not match what comes with the fan. It almost seems like the assembly instructions were done in another country. On the subject of parts some were missing. The overall assembly design is also terrible. Finally, the quality of the fan is poor. The remote control is made of crappy plastics and is intermittent. I am so put off by this fan that I gave it away and will never buy another Hunter product.

I absolutely LOVE Amazon and will continue to use them, but I would not recommend buying this type of item from them. Why? Because by the time you realize what a piece of crap this item is you have all 20+ parts unpacked and partially assembled. It is too much of a hassle to get everything back in the box and deal with the hassle of shipping it back. Buy this type of product at Home Depot or Lowes.

I just want to update my review this fan wasn't working at first, it would come on several times a day by itself, either the light or the fan itself. Hunter sent me out a new part, but that didn't fix it. I called again, and they sent out another part now the fan is working great now. It's been two full weeks and hasn't come on by itself, so I think it's fixed! The customer service was excellent.

I like the more "modern" look of this fan.

I've raised my "stars" rating to 4 since it is working now. It's not a 5 because of the initial problem, and one other design issue I don't like. The way the glass is installed over the light, it's very difficult to take off, as the metal ring with three screws in it holds the glass and needs to be removed, but you need to hold the glass at the same time. It's almost a two person job (on ladders!) to remove this, or you risk dropping the glass. Of course with a fluorescent light I won't need to remove this very often to replace the bulb. Most lights you hold the glass, and remove screws with your fingers. This you need to hold the glass, and a screwdriver at the same time.

One other thing to be aware of, the fluorescent bulb is one of those rings types, and is quite bright. No dimming available. It doesn't use much power which is good, just be aware it's bright.

12/24/2012 UPDATE: Sadly, this fan drives me crazy. I can no longer use the remote, as it will come on by itself, both the light and the fan. So when I'm not in the room, I have to turn off the fan by the switch on the wall, so it won't blow all the papers off my desk in the middle of the night. I spent a lot for the fan, and Hunter tried making it right, but since the problem is with ALL their fans, not just a defective one they sent me, I still have problems. This second fan (and third remote control piece) is a little better and doesn't come on by itself as often. But if it comes on by itself at all it's just junk.

Overall though, I'm happy with the fan now.

Honest reviews on Hunter 21627 Palermo 52-Inch Brushed Nickel Fan

I bought an earlier version of the Hunter Palermo about 8 years ago and it was an entirely different fan. Although built around 2 incandescent bulbs rather than a fluorescent, the fan assembled flawlessly, the balance was perfect, the remote never failed, and overall quality was very good for the price although not as high as something like an old Casablanca (before Hunter bought them.)

The newer Palermo is an entirely different animal. As others have pointed out, the remote sometimes turns on at random (very disconcerting in the middle of the night!) seemingly due to power surges and even lightning. Worst of all the thin, cheap metal enclosure on mine was warped out of the box which threw the entire fan rotor out of balance. Just look at my video to see the ridiculous level of wobble that is introduced. The fan just *barely* misses scraping the bottom third where the light sits.

I returned the fan so I can't remember for sure, but I believe it's now made in China. I'm pretty sure Hunters of 20 years ago were made in the US, then manufacturing was moved to Mexico, and finally offshored to China. Not that I haven't seen plenty of well-made products come out of China, but Hunter needs to make some big quality control improvements before I'll ever buy or recommend another one.

This fan cools well, once installed. However, as other reviewers have commented, this fan is poorly engineered compared to comparable competitors fans, in that I used a certified licensed electrician to install my fan, and working with his assistant, it still took them considerable effort and time to install this fan. They both told me this is the first fan they have ever installed that has been this involved for them , and they have installed thousands of ceiling fans over the years. I like using the fan for its cooling effects, but have discarded my plans to outfit the other rooms in my house with this Brand/Model fan, as I had intended when I purchased this fan to try out first. In fact, I am so glad that I purchased just one of these fans first --since, there is no way in h--, that I'll ever purchase another one or any other hunter fan. And, yes, again as others have commented, on one ocassion this fan has speeded up and turned its light on while I was asleep (and, so, it woked me up); and, on another ocassion, when I had turned the fan off using its remote ---when, I returned home, later the same day, I found this fan was running at high speed as it had turned itself on; my solution for this problem, is that whenever I don 't want the fan to turn itself on, I simply turn it off at the wall switch, instead of with its Remote. A very funny fan, as it cools well; but, obviously is poorly engineered in a way that it's totally unreliable in my opinion. Family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors, all agree with me that a company with Hunter's past history of being a leader in ceiling fans, should be shocked at the poor overall reliability/operation of this fan.
