The transformer that is pictured is not the one that comes with the kit. The transformer that comes with the kit is a Dusk Till Dawn, Other then that no problems so far, The lights are bright and All working. Shiping was post to take 5-8 days, took 2 days.

I purchased this kit from Home Depot on February 18. On February 20 a bulb failed, so I bought a new bulb. On March 10 the transformer failed. Two failures in 3 weeks?

While looking for the model and serial number of the product, I found several reviews indicating that the Brinkmann / Malibu transformers are junk. I want to add one more voice to the chorus.

Also, the transformer pictured is NOT the transformer that is included with the kit. The transformer in the kit has a light sensor, and a rotary knob to set the duration of the lights staying on after darkness. The choices for the settings are: OFF, ON (all the time), AUTO (on at dusk, off at dawn), 4 hours, 6 hours, 8 hours, 10 hours.

I contacted Brinkmann (the parent company), and described the transformer failure to a very helpful customer service representative. To their credit, after I proved that I bought the unit, the customer service rep sent me a new transformer, and an email confirming shipment. However, after I installed the replacement, I found that it was dead on arrival (DOA). No light, no hum, no click, no nothing, when I plugged it in and turned it on. I have since contacted the customer service rep., and explained that the replacement was DOA.

I will update this when I have a resolution.

I am pleased to say that Brinkmann sent me a THIRD transformer. I have to hand it to them for standing behind their product. Unlike the second transformer, this transformer arrived, unopened, in its original packaging. I suspect that the second transformer was a refurbished unit, or that it had been sent to the manufacturer for refurbishment. This transformer WORKS! I suspect that the earlier transformer issues were due to poor QC. I believe that I received a bad transformer out of the box, and there is no question that the second transformer was DOA. That said, I am confident that this transformer will last. I will update if there is another failure.

I purchased 4 of these kits for my home and carefully installed them according to the manufacturer's directions. They worked great for two weeks then two of the transformers stopped working within a week or so of each other. I took them apart and discovered that they had each caught fire on the inside and melted the wires. These are in different parts of the landscaping and were properly installed so I do not believe it to be user error. I purchased replacement transformers that are different in design and have contacted Malibu for a resolution. I'd advise against buying this kit in the meantime.

Flood lights put out a great source of light for landscape highlighting/security. Light sensitive transformer is a joke! Goes on way too early before sunset and shuts off mid morning ("dusk to dawn" setting). Adjustment hours to turn off after turn on feature (1-9 hours after sunset) is not adequate for the Northeast part of US. For example, it will soon get dark around 5 PM here; 9 hour max. interval would shut lights off at 2 AM which assumes the unit turns on when it's supposed to and not well before dusk. Should of stayed with the "traditional" timer kind of transformer. Transformer also puts out a very noticeable hum. I'm an engineer and know transformers do hum but this product seems louder (based on wattage) than it should.
